I never liked the random school searches, but, admittedly, I can't think of a good reason they shouldn't occur.

Plus it fits in with the 'you're all just potential criminals to us' motif the schools have going on.

2003-01-28 12:04:24 AM
These only work when they don't warn the kids beforehand. My school did. Stupid people.

2003-01-28 12:06:11 AM
My school had something like 50+ people caught with drugs when they did us.

What do you need dogs for? Just look for the pregnant chicks.

At high schools in Las Vegas, whenever there is a shelter inplace drill or a fire drill, the cops arrive with drug sniffing dogs to make sure there are no drugs in anybody's locker while all the students are outside.

Curious dog says, "Drugs are bad, woof".

If it was Japan, there'd be a strip search.

/"I suggest you leave immediately." "Or what? You'll release the dogs, or the bees, or the dogs with bees in their mouths, and when they bark, they shoot bees at you? Well, go ahead. Do your worst!" (best dog quote I could think of)

2003-01-28 12:08:44 AM
....stupid. That's money that could be used to further drug awareness, instead being used to catch kids who obviously aren't goig to stop just because they're caught.

Soak doobage in water overnight.
Strain out doobage.
Put water in squirt gun.
Hide near school.
Squirt shoes of passing students.
Watch hilarity ensue.

2003-01-28 12:10:31 AM
parents, talk to your kids about drugs. end this cycle of stupidity.

School uses drug sniffing dogs and bouncers to curb drug use

Thats messed up.

You mean I'm not allowed to sniff drugs, but those farking dogs are?

2003-01-28 12:12:14 AM
Alternatively:
Powder doobage.
Place in salt shaker.
Lightly dust sidewalk around entire school.
Watch (etc.)

Soon students won't have any rights, period. It's not legal to randomly search those over the age of 18, is it? Pretty soon the cops and teachers will be able to do just about anything they want to kids in schools. I mean, I think something should be done to prevent drugs in a school, sure. But this seems a little . . . I dunno, gestapo like.

Use liberal amounts of coffe beans in your stash. What I heard it hides the smell. I didn't say this, I wasn't here, I know nothing.

2003-01-28 12:16:59 AM
Freschel - That is a myth.

2003-01-28 12:17:27 AM
Heil DARE....?

2003-01-28 12:21:12 AM
Fraschel: Andonbray's right. Considering a trained dog's sense of smell, that's like trying to cover plaid blanket with a band-aid. Doesn't work, sorry...

2003-01-28 12:23:36 AM
I was always told that constitutional rights don't apply to those over 18. Of course no-one saying so ever had a copy of the constitution handy just to double-check (or was under 18 themselves). The whole thing smells really, really bad. But hey, when drugs or terrorism is involved, anything goes in this country, right?

2003-01-28 12:23:42 AM
doobage? what has everyone been watching the breakfast club tonight?

2003-01-28 12:24:53 AM
Sorry Freschel, my speeling's not too good...

I'm not saying I agree with the policy, SilverDraghyeon said it well: It's a "guilty until proven innocent" mentality. If there's a cause for the search, fine, but randomly sweeping halls during school just sucks...

2003-01-28 12:25:35 AM
I'm the only one using that term.
And I use it because I'm an old fart.

2003-01-28 12:27:10 AM
Disclaimer: I neither use drugs nor advocate their usage.

2003-01-28 12:32:07 AM
Ok, dog searches happen at just about every public high school. But patting people down seems a little bit extreme, especially for a school that claims to have no problem at all.

2003-01-28 12:33:40 AM
I think that on top of the dogs and bouncers, the school board should employ a bunch of ED-209 units to monitor all the kids as they walk down the halls. Kids who don't like dogs and robots probably smoke grass anyway.

They could even make it like a party and have flashing red cop lights along the ceilings and sirens blaring from the walls

2003-01-28 12:34:42 AM
Excellent, schools are one step closer to being the mindless rave clubs that you'd assume they'd be by looking or trying to talk to students these days.

2003-01-28 12:36:44 AM
oh, my bad, didn't read the name for each post, its cool if one person says it, but not everyone

2003-01-28 12:37:12 AM
Children are our future.

That being said, why are we conditioning them to live without the expectation of privacy?

2003-01-28 12:37:50 AM
why stop at monitoring the kids while they're at school? We could attatch tracking units to the child's clothing, thus allowing us to track their movement throughout the day. Parent's could call up where their kid is on the web--this way parents could remain at work longer--assured that their child is safe at home and not hiding behind some theater smoking up or popping some pills. because that's what all the teenagers do these days.
we could even have special teams of bouncers who cruise the streets, with recievers to tell them where the children are. it would be great!

Say, aren't there more people who are allergic to dogs than there are people who are allergic to peanuts?

Hey how 'bout you just keep your shiat in your car and go out during lunch hour or smoke before first hour?

ELCU - Yer car is free game unless you parked it off of school property.

2003-01-28 01:12:43 AM
WOW-things've changed. I'm not even 30 :S We used to hit the parking lot at lunch all the time. Best was when we saw our history teacher/assistant football coach four cars down doing the same thing. We got along with him really well from that day on...

2003-01-28 01:23:32 AM
As a former bouncer, I don't envy the nightclub personnel for their job. Their civilian security license won't carry over onto school property, and they'd better be DAMN careful what they do and don't touch while searching the kids.
Seriously, it's very, very thin ice.

Not that I believe that bouncers should be frisking kids for drugs anyway -- I think it's pretty farking invasive -- but I envy their position no more than I envy the students.

yeah, we would have the dogs come through twice a year..
we weren't told about it and we weren't allowed in the hall when they were doing it. i thought it was all bullshiat until i actually saw the dogs and cops walk past the door. oh well, i never heard of anyone getting caught even though i KNOW a ton of people had "doobage" ;p

yeah, the cops in my town just busted about thirty kids i graduated with. (i say 'kids'... i graduated HS in '99)
at least 3 are looking at 5 years jail time, or so.. and something like $150K bail... pretty interesting.. btw, it wasn't ONLY pot they were busted with, but mostly.

Let's see . . kids are smoking dope because they're stressed out and/or in order to rebel.

So . . let's really clamp down on them and make them toe the line.

(Am I the only one bothered by this line of thinking?)

2003-01-28 01:30:43 AM
TI is right. I've been the bouncer on the door, myself. You need to be veeeeery careful.

(I was working the front door one night, carding everybody, of course, when the head bouncer came over laughing his ass off, leaned on me (enough to make my knees buckle as he was a hugemungus black dude) and said, "(Nanook), you're killing me. You just carded 'Chipper' Jones.")

2003-01-28 01:34:01 AM
Yeah, it's hard to use drugs when your arm is being ripped off by a crazy coked out dog.

2003-01-28 02:06:14 AM
beast damn thing that could happen in the Midlands. These are some of the shiattiest schools in the country. I am a supply teacher for the district, yesterday we had to let students out 20 mins earlier because a gang from another local high school (mostly white) was coming over to our school (high indian/pakistani enrolement) for a good old fashioned inter-race gang drug war. Last time this happened (three days ago) students were armed with knives and swords, (swords!?!). The school in question in the article might not have as bad a problem as other schools in the area, but they can see the state of the neighbouring schools, and want to avoid it. It is an absolute farking warzone round here.

Tipexpocketmouse - That's horrible.

I blame the gullibility of kids and their pop culture inspired desire to be 'hard core'... and TV violence, the HARP project, and the war on drugs.

Mostly gullibility and the war on drugs.

2003-01-28 03:28:06 AM
This is a good thing - these are kids - I bet the parents wouldn't object - so screw what the kids want...The ones against it just have something to hide.

2003-01-28 03:32:30 AM
Tipexpocketmouse & Scrotar - These kids need their arses kicked for being too much like ignorant adults, and the parents need their arses kicked for being too much like ignorant kids, when problems are regional like this - I put the blame on the parents, what they do directly influences their children and their community.

As far as the gang war - I know who I'm rooting for...

arg thats schools just 15 minutes down the road from me
its a pretty rough area though

2003-01-28 06:09:01 AM
I too have never understood the reason that they warn the kids first. That's like saying, "Right Mr. Crim, we're going to be 'round at 5pm to arrest you - make sure you're in now!"

But I think it's something to do with getting sued.

Bouncey Dogs?

2003-01-28 12:31:39 PM
Man our school was dumb! We coulda been using dogs to sniff out da cronic instead of having locker searches whare they actually opened all the lockers (so no one could say they were being singled out). Needless to say when they started doing this I stoped using a locker (never really used mine anyway).

2003-01-28 12:32:00 PM
Maybe we should do the same thing for political buildings, then............
