Executive chef Mark Chira found the idea intriguing and offered the team his cold room.

Most corporations give us the cold shoulder. These guys got the whole room!

So I guess it's fair to say he's the national champion.

2003-01-27 11:52:50 AM
You mean to say that in all of Kenya, there isn't even one of these?

So much for practicing.

They'd try the Jamaicans, but they've already seen snow.

2003-01-27 11:53:54 AM
Only one member of the Kenya snow sculpture has ever seen snow because the rest are blind.

I love an underdog. I hope the crazy farkers win.

I'm with I_Can't_Believe_It's_Not_Smegma! I loved those crazy Jamican bobsledders! I hope they kick some ass!

I was a snow sculptor once, but I'm not 4 years old any more.

"Mr. Chira said he keeps the cold room at -18, which was a shock to the novice sculptors. "They don't even want to spend a minute there because it's damn cold," he said, adding that he worries about how they will do in the -30 temperatures he's heard sometimes grip Quebec City."

Are they talking Fahrenheit or Celsius?

-18C = 0F
-30C = -22F

Only in Canada do under privileged countries attempt to out winter us! First it was Jamaica, now Kenya. This could be fun. Wish I could be there just to watch their faces when they see their competition.

SkunkDuster - that would be Celsius.

Kenyans? Coming to Canada?

I'm just worried that they'll put our mayor in a pot and dance around it.

Oh wait... they're not coming to Toronto. Never mind.

He's got to be in peak condition - that climb up Kilimanjaro just to get a freakin' snowball has got to be a biatch.

2003-01-27 12:13:24 PM
SpaceMoose - I'd be dancing with them if they put Lastman into a pot and cooked him. Do you think they can shrink his head ala Beetlejuice?

Given their level of experience with the subject, I'd say they were ready to produce a Hollywood movie.

Let me guess?

Just like the Kenyan cross country ski team, they are also another publicity stunt sponsered by Nike, just to have thier emblem displayed on all the television features.

I wonder how you spell NIKE in french?

2003-01-27 12:59:14 PM
Farkinfreks : according to babelfish, nike in french is nike...go figure!

2003-01-27 12:59:48 PM
SpaceMoose,

Was it the mayor of Toronto that said that? I've forgotten all about that. Mwahaha.

2003-01-27 01:12:30 PM
Thanks SYMDave. Nike appears to have the French/English product display thing down pat then.

Farkinfreks: "Do you think they can shrink his head ala Beetlejuice?"

The contents have already been shrunk, so it ought not be a huge challenge.

Shrinking his ego, on the other hand...

Heh heh... Mayor Mel's hair looks like it belongs on a shrunken head already.

Someone should inform the Kenyans not to worry about the snow. If there's not enough, I'm sure the Army can truck some in.

He saw snow when he was working at McDowell's retaurant on Queens Blvd. while in search of his princess.

At the world famous Sapporo Snow Festival in Sapporo, Japan, there's a special competition for foreign snow-sculpture teams. I attended the opening ceremony in 1995. It was interesting how many of the teams were from "non-snow" countries like Malaysia and Indonesia.

SpaceMoose,

Excellent, I award you a silver gimmy...
