Weird. I was reading the flamewar between Rabbit and Kazmaa, and I think I'll base a school assignment on the argument. Thanks for helping me with the writer's block guys.

The article seems to be farked. When did this happen? If it's 2 or 3 years ago, then I'm intrigued. If it was 50-100 years ago or something, then I could give a flying fark.

Oh come now, this isn't the WORST thing the Catholics have done.

VinDiese: Shut the last one down in 1996. Pretty recent.

I don't see how bringing it to people's attention is 'anti-christian'. Seems like someone is over reacting.

It is quite simple:

fact = insult against faith
fantasy = defense of faith

Just another reason to shut down the Catholic Church. Except for that First Amendment thing. Let's sue them out of existance, at least in the States. Whad'dya say, guys?

Pappy Dick,

Thank you for being such a shining example of the deep thinking, open minded, and tolerant person I could become if I just rejected Christ.

(Like shooting fish in a barrel)

Props to the openminded Athiests Farkers.

I fail to understand why people are going off on the Irish. As stated there was no separate "Irish Catholic Church", and before Christianity every came to Ireland, they were all pagan. The Irish didn't think up the concept of Christianity all by themselves.

To blame the Irish for this is farking ridiculous. Christianity was set up there by the Roman Catholics, ie a bunch of British guys hellbent on invasion under the guise of "conversion." The British took over the country; why do you think so many Irish emigrated to America? It wasn't just because of the potato famine of 1845, they didn't like being opressed and treated like crap.

All that said, this is pretty freaky. That anyone would think it's their God-given duty to snatch up innocent women and force them into slavery is scary, and these women who are still alive and were involved deserve recognition and an apology.

sweet suffering mother of divine christ, i have never had the misfortune of trawling through such a misininformed pile of farking drivel in my entire life.

sample: weaponxreject-christianity was not "set up" in ireland by the british, they tried to stamp it out over the course of 800 years, and it survived despite them. I could go on and on about the number of inaccuracies in this thread, but just couldn't be arsed at the moment.

No,I think it was the Irish Catholic Church, not the Roman Catholic Church who did this. The Irish Catholic Church has Bono as it's head, and the bishops are all bikers who ride around preaching in Irish.

yeah and they all have little crucifixes with miniature sinead o'connors on them too.

Kev23f:

Agreed. What the Hell? My history degree was obviously a load of nonsense then and I'll take the information from here instead. Irish Catholic Church. Thats news to me. Christianity set up by British. Hmmmm. all Irish are terrorists. Guess I better buy some bombs then.

The Magdelene laundries/order closed officially in 1996. The said barbaric events were phased out by the 1960's. The ignorance that allowed this to happen is the fault of the Catholic church (The Catholic/holy roman/whatever church). How the general public can be blamed is ridiculous. The catholic church is responsible for a lot of evil, personally I despise it, but it is forever assumed that Irish people are somehow directly responsible for a churches actions. most Irish people today don't give a flying fark about it, and think it is outdated, pathetic and irrelevant.

I think Laughing Gremlin has said it all for me. I just want to add that I've learned something about myself from reading this post. Some of the ridiculous and gross misconceptions of Ireland and people who live in Ireland, and what goes on in our country, made me realise I shouldnt be so quick to tar everyone in other countries with the same brush. Because if educated people in places like the US think that all of us are a bunch of crazy cross waving terrorists interested in blowing innocents to bits, then I get scared. Also, the IRA are an anti-drugs organisation and always have been. Thats not saying that they are not terrorists, just that some above mentioned that all their interests now lie in the drug trade. Couldn't be further from the truth.

This is in no way a new thing. The Magdalane Order has been around since medieval times. I did a research project on the Penitent Sisters of St. Mary Magdalane. They were denied permission to set up convents throughout Italy. The French finally let them and it turned out that the Penitent Sisters were reformed prostitutes who weren't really reformed. The Church was profiting from their labor.

"girls who were too pretty and therefore in moral danger all ran the risk of being locked up"

I would have used the locked up pretty girls for sex.....

Kev23f, fine, so I was half asleep when I was writing. And I really, really don't care, because I didn't say half as much stupid shiat as other idiots in this thread.

Fark you too.

weaponxreject, half asleep? i shudder to think what you'd have written if you were awake.

but i didn't mean to pick on you in case your feelings were hurt, just that your comment was the most recent one.

SchlingFo

If I make a state - declare war on your state and go and kill every woman and child in your family - thats ok with you? just was war should be?

theres a point in there somewhere...

It is as long as you keep in the proper Christian perpective-just declare that they're worshipping the wrong Jesus(tm) and do what you like. Isn't that how England has been doing it since the Reformation?

While I have no problem with individual Catholics, I have to say this:

Catholicism is not Christianity. They worship (oh sorry, venerate--semantics there) Mary. Tradition comes before Scripture, which is really a no-no. And get this--they claim to have given us the New Testament, yet they don't believe a word of it! How farked is that? (When I mean they I mean Catholicism, not individual Catholics btw.)

I'm sure Catholics are sincere and mean well, but they need to take a good look at the system they're in and reject it. Catholicism is nothing but a corrupt religious system.

2003-01-27 12:38:45 PM
...and just how is this inconsistant with Christian history?

"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. what has been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution."

-James Madision, "A Memorial and Remonstrance," addressed to the Virginia General Assembly, 1785

Ah fuggit, if someone doesn't want to like the Irish, fine. That way they'll avoid Ireland and won't come into contact with us so what do I care? The only good bigot is the bigot that's far away.

2003-01-27 04:35:50 PM
That is some bad stuff that went on, but you cant go back in time and do anything about it now can you? The best you can do is just feel sorry for the poor people.

2003-01-27 05:24:47 PM
Well, hmm 1973? 30 farking years and they are finally bringing it up now?

Oh, wait it mentions the Catholic Church or the Irish Catholic Church, whatever the fark that is, so it will draw viewers cause no body really cares to educate themselves about the true Catholic Church.

Damn Irish Catholics, they are who are to blame for your lot in life.

We can do better than that. We can make sure it doesn't happen again. We can expose the crimes being committed now by religions. We can fight every attempt by religions to drag humanity backwards. We can insist that religions not usurp civil power and money. We can hold the clergy responsible and demand they comply with the law. We can reveal the absurdity of their religious hocus pocus. We can teach children not to fear their corrupt lies.

This story is utter crap. Everyone knows that white people can't be slaves. And even if they were, they surely deserved it.
