Is it going to be as photoshopable as Irans? In all seriousness this could be the dumbest move by North Korea yet. It could turn world opinion from, ignore the midget to kill the midget.

Don't worry about it, they don't have a Photoshop powerful enough to reach the U.S.

Type o' Fail. They'll just burn out and fall into the ocean again. The real engineering talent is south of the border there.

I doubt North Korea really has the fuel reserves to launch one beyond the testing stage.

They are scrambling jets in Daegu right now, so I checked FARK and saw this post. Freaky!

I'm absolutely terrified. I mean they have a missile that might (hahahaha) work. We have enough ICBMs to arrange for South Korea to become an island instead of a pennisula.

This particular missile has never had a successful flight test in the past. There is no reason to assume it will fare any better this time.

North Korea is a one-trick pony.
They don't get their way, they throw a hissy-fit like a 3-year old.

Kim Jong Ill would just magically summon a new stretch of land to replace the one America destroyed.

1) I am hoping the N Korean missle program is being fed through black information insuring it's failure.

2) Unless they build a boatload which they don't have the money for we will be able to take a small amount of these down over the pacific.

FTFA: The Taepodong-2 - considered the North's most advanced rocket - has a range of more than 4,160 miles (6,700 kilometers), putting Alaska in range.

You mean St. Lawrence Island is in danger?! The horror!

Not to worry, they only have Windows 3.1 and Paint over there.

Lynoitus: The real engineering talent is south of the border there.

I'm not sure how the North has any engineering skill at all, given that they're so isolated. Collaboration with other scientists and engineers would make complicated things like ICBMs and nuclear power much easier (you know, relatively speaking, since these are difficult subjects.)

Plus, it's difficult to think about engineering when you're starving.

I always find it facinating how we'll invade arab countries on the mere suspicion that they might have WMD's, but not others that do have nukes and use the threat of their use as a form of extortion against us.

Because North Korea has the whole DMZ lined with artillery. Basically any hostilities will cause all those guns to open up and most likely kill several million civilians.

Such damage would result in a huge economic impact that would go on to negatively affect China and Asia.

Also, Saddam was isolated, diplomatically and militarily, whereas NK is propped up and supported by China. So any war would bring them into it.

That concludes todays lesson.

Have we even confirmed they have a nuke? If I recall correctly, their "test" fizzled at like 500,000 lbs tnt equivalent. that's 1/4 of a kiloton...or, way less than the manhattan project era bombs we first tested..

Somaticasual: Have we even confirmed they have a nuke?

It's North Korea we're talking about here. My guess is the "warhead" is composed of 150 boxes of sparklers, 3 snakes (no, not the kind that smoke and make ash--actual snakes), and a damp cherry bomb. The rocket itself uses a combination solid/liquid propellant (80 gallons of Diet Coke and 5 lbs of Tic Tacs, Menthos being currently unavailable) and is held together with duct tape.

The North has a pretty developed skill in stealing missile technology or getting it from China, reverse engineering stuff and then selling it to Pakistan, India, Libya, anyone with money or exchange of nuclear technology (Pakistan is a big violator here). Everything they have is via stolen or black market sales.

I believe they are the number one supplier right now on the black market.

1 megaton = 1 million lbs of tnt. 1/4 kiloton = a box of tnt
500,000 lb = half megaton

Sigh, I don't get it. North-Korea pretends to be dangerous, and the USA (and the rest of the world) pretends to be awed by their missile launch. Although they'll probably fail and quite literally make a plunge, they'll receive financial aid because of it, and perhaps even a weakening of the imposed embargos.

I'd say shoot one back, have it self-destruct above their coastline, and drop ha-ha guy leaflets or something.

But I guess that would be an act of war, and the other people on the playground wouldn't appreciate that.
