Based on a Nissan Patrol 4x4 truck platform and built for Peter Jackson's abandoned Halo film, this is not a prop -- rather, its a fully working beast. The six-cylinder, diesel, automatic bad boy sports full four-wheel drive, a custom chassis

When you see it like that you realize how silly it is to think that a futuristic army would use such a vehicle. Exposed stuff on the bottom, exposed passengers on top. Piece of junk wouldn't be used by any real military force.

WETA has had this thing for years.

Kotaku article posted Fri Aug 17 2007.

"Last month Bungie showed off Weta Workshop's fully functioning Warthog to Halo fans, making them gaze upon their Jeep Cherokees in utter disgust at the lack of weapon hard points. Now the Weta Holics has posted photos of the Warthog doing its impression of fans' pants when they first caught eye of it, complete with raised suspension and armored marine manning the chain gun in back"

Is this how H2 drivers feel, driving around in a civilian vehicle cosmetically altered to look military?

Speed is often more important than armor. Avoiding getting hit can be more effective than absorbing the hit.
