i'm not sure if i had i a point with what i said, but if i did it was that we live in a culture where if you've never heard of STD's or teen pregnancy, of contraceptives, than you probably are alone on an island and wont be having sex anyway.

i did not choose abstinance, abstinance chose me.

I had a sexual epiphany while watching the Blue Lagoon. My older brother's friend was over and told me: "Watch and see, those two are going to start farking". I didn't know what "farking" was, only that the word was naughty. I said, "No way" or something, to pretend I knew what he was talking about. He replied: "Well, how do you think she gets that baby?" A light went off in my head.

When no sex until marriage advice was decreed, people were getting married at age 15 or so.

Is it a coincindence then that most people lose their virginity at that age? NO. Our bodies are wired for it. And while it's possible to wait until marriage for sex, it isn't likely, since a lot of people don't get married until their late 20's or later.

No sex until marriage stuff made sense when people got married at age 15. It doesn't anymore.

Need to have porn star guest speakers...

2003-01-24 10:05:31 PM
did anyone watch that 20/20 pornstar interview last night?

2003-01-24 10:06:17 PM
I don't get it. If these kids don't understand how sex works, then how are they getting pregnant?

2003-01-24 10:07:46 PM
You and your friends might know it all, but you'd be suprised how many people know so little about sex in the US. Go to any Teen Sex Help site and be horrified.

Dear Teen Health FX...

I was thinking about that as I wrote, Jjorsett.

everyone beat me to the better sex remark! :)
so i will add my parents explaining sex to me left me with more questions than answers. mom was so uncomnfortable it was transmitting to me and i acted like i understood everything just to shut her up! and message she ended up giving me was sex is a bad thing. and btw it was a very technical conversation, nothing about feelings and how to handle both on my end and the other involved party. no wonder i stopped taking her word for anything not long afterward.
note/ i found out she lied about the sex thing much later.

Anybody see this - Celine Dion (news) will deliver "God Bless America." - at the bottom of the page.

What, can't they find an American to sing this song.

What Heuer said.

Not surprising. It was one of the more hilarious (and scary) threads I've seen in a while, that's for sure.

The Washington Post had a much better, more in depth article a week or so back (which, btw, I submitted but it was never posted, oh well).

They talked about how STDs in Lubbock are rampant, and how while the national trend of teen pregnancies and STDs has been steadily downward, Lubbock has been well above the national average and rising.

So, obviously, since we want more teenage pregnancies and STDs we should make Lubbock's sex education policy the national standard.

That was the best!!! Quick1 LOL

what JOHNDX said

2003-01-24 10:38:55 PM
As Nhurly pointed out, preaching abstinence until marriage makes NO sense in today's world. Young people (middle class at least) are being pressured to go to school and get high paying jobs so they can "afford" to get married and have kids. So what, now people are supposed to wait until they're 28 y/o to have sex? I don't think that's gonna work out... I think abstinence should be encouraged for school age kids, but they need to know what happens when they do have sex.

2003-01-24 10:41:27 PM
People used to get married at 12 :P 15 is like your prime, then you just get old.

2003-01-24 10:42:01 PM
So, I had an advanced health class in Junior High, which included a more in depth Sex Ed. The evening after our Sex exam, the teacher was chaperoning a dance at the school. The conversation went something like this: "You know teach, I think I could have done a lot better on that test if it'd been an oral exam." "Sure, you can take it that way. First section is on STDs..."

Damn, did that drive a point home like nothing else did.

2003-01-24 10:42:38 PM
oh dear god, i just clicked on the link that Quick1's thread went to, people are moronic, i had no idea that some people thought they could use a tampon as birth-control. dear god, are these people even old enough to have sex?

2003-01-24 10:44:07 PM
ok, now that i think about it, having the need of tampons probably does mean they are old enough

2003-01-24 10:47:15 PM
Hang around Fark a little longer Vex you'll see the wildest crap ever! LOL

fun times, fun times.....good people here too.

2003-01-24 10:55:16 PM
Okay all you people with the "It's the parents responsibility blah blah blah..." how many of you actually know all the signs/symtoms of the various STD's out there...or how long it takes for these things to show themselves, or how many people out there are actually carrying a STD... get my point?? Yes morals should be taught at home, but there is nothing wrong with giving kids the facts at school.

LOL, guess all I can really say is thank god I didn't go to school in TX. Actually I should thank my mom to. And those PBS "human sexuality" shows she made me watch with her.

You know its funny really, sex and sexuality is all over the place, almost in an "in your face" kinda way over here (Japan), and they have one of the lowest teen pregnancy rates in the world. Hmmmm....

2003-01-24 10:55:19 PM
I grew up in Lubbock and was in the LISD from first through 12th grade. What a farkin shiathole. That place is so conservative, they have no hope of getting those guidelines changed. Not until they grow out of the 17th Century, anyway.

It wouldn't surprise me if that city had more churches than convenience stores. When I was 17 in the late '70s, KISS had scheduled a concert for Halloween night. The god people threw a fit and tried to blockade the tour bus from entering the city. They had flyers and posters and petitions all over town.

The concert was good, btw.

SEX WITH A TREE (Sex Definitions) March 6, 2001

Dear TeenHealthFX,
I wanted to know what it was called if you tried to have sex with a tree?

Signed: Sex With A Tree

Dear Sex With A Tree,
Sexual pleasures and gratification derived from unusual sources are commonly referred to as Philias. Sexual pleasure from a tree is sometimes called arborphilia.

TeenHealthFX would like to.................never mind.

Liberals are all about respecting other people's beliefs and "tolerance" when it is THEIR beliefs that are being challanged, but they have absolutely zero respect for anyone else's.

There are millions of high schoolers in this country whose religions have a problem with any form of birth control, such as Catholics. Having a teacher get up in front of class and extol the wonders of condoms is as offensive to a Catholic as having a teacher extol the wonders of Jesus to an athiest. Teachers do NOT need to be getting into the areas of sex, religion, and morality. That is what *PARENTS* are for. They can't even teach basic reading and math, how can they be expected to teach the nuances of morality?

If these kids want to promote birth control, they can go right ahead. Start a birth control club. Pass out info and condoms.

And for the record, I am not Catholic and I have absolutely no moral problems with birth control. But I respect the beliefs of those that do.

I find it kinda funny. They have higher rates of "insert stat here", and yet, the kids know exactly whay they are missing in a sex-ed class. If they KNOW what they're missing, dont they already KNOW what they're missing?

2003-01-25 12:54:09 AM
Teachers do NOT need to be getting into the areas of sex, religion, and morality

thing is, some people think sex belongs in the same category as religion and morality. some do not.

hence the conflict, which is the essence of all drama.

/whee

2003-01-25 01:10:41 AM
Nothingtoseehere,

Yes, but those people who do not think that sex belongs in the same category as religion and morality need to respect the beliefs of those that do.

Quick1: Good. Maybe if there was better sex ed, things like abortion wouldn't even BE an issue.

I wonder if anyone benefits from abortion being an issue?

2003-01-25 01:26:03 AM
Sex education can and should deal with facts. The biology, the mechanics. Contraceptives and their efficacy should be discussed. Parents can and should continue to teach everything they want to about the morality of the acts and the use of the contraceptives. Basic truths should not be banned from the classroom.

Just my thoughts

2003-01-25 01:35:55 AM
Teachers do NOT need to be getting into the areas of sex, religion, and morality.

A school is there to teach our children in every aspect of life, and socialize them as well. Reproduction in humans is no different from reproduction in plants or other animals.

As for teaching about stuff beyond the basics, yes they do, because many parents do not. Many parents have problems discussing sex with their children (and, might I add, a lot of these problems come from religion labelling sex as a "bad thing").

As has been mentioned before, no matter how much parents or government officials wish teenagers wouldn't have sex, they still do. They are individual human beings with the capacity to make decisions and they have desires independent of any controlling authority. Simply because they haven't hit the "magic" age of 18 doesn't mean they're simply puppets that will do the bidding of adults who "know best."

As has been shown (for example in Lubbock), when people deny information for the "just say no" routine, all that accomplishes is more teen pregnancies and more STDs. Therefore, full information is a necessity.

If a parent thinks demonstrating how to use a condom is offensive, then that parent has the option of pulling their child out of the class, and/or of teaching their own version of morality at home.

The bottom line, however, is that if SOMETHING is going to be taught in the schools beyond the "tab A in slot B" basics, it needs to be comprehensive, not a damaging abstinence education that serves no purpose beyond making fairy-tale believing adults think they're doing good while they 1) stunt their kids sexual development 2) ensure that their kids will feel bad about sex, a decision that should be the kids choice 3) deprive the kids of possible life-saving alternatives (to pretend they aren't going to experiment is just to deny reality).

Sex is jammed in your face at every opportunity. It is used to sell you music and soft drinks and Disneyland. (tell me that the disney channel doesn't promote sex. But people are afraid to talk about it with their kids. Hell I'm uncomfortable with it. What's that all about?

2003-01-25 01:42:54 AM
A school is there to teach our children in every aspect of life, and socialize them as well. Reproduction in humans is no different from reproduction in plants or other animals.

Well then, they could save us taxpayers a lot of money if they'd just dim the lights in the classroom and throw a porno into the VCR. Maybe they should even pair up the kids in opposite sex couples so they can familiarize themselves with each others' genitals.

Sex education is a good thing. I did not have it when i was young. On top of that I dont listen to howard stern. Ergo, my knowledge of sexual vulgarity is nearly non-existent. I was so embarrassed when I had to ask my friend what a filthy sanchez was after seeing it mentioned on suth park. Sex education is the only way for us non-stern listeners to keep up with the vulgar world.

/up with vulgarity

p.s. Boobies; im a new member

why did this link replace the word "Boobies" with "boobies"???

2003-01-25 01:48:00 AM
Ok let me try this again: "Boobies: im a new member"

2003-01-25 01:57:28 AM
Angryjd, there is a filter to prevent someone from saying the "word" first followed by the word "post". it sucks. it happened to me. [i just learned quicker ;)] and welcome
