I watched the video seven time but still didn't get it. Why is the neighbor pissed?

/I might not get it due to the fact I have no audio @ work... just guessing though..

1.) because who the fark wants to live next to some loser with 14 kids.

2.) Who the fark do you think is paying the tab for this? Whose healthcare premiums will go up after they spend millions on the birth of these kids and millions taking care of them.....that's right imagine that it's not all the smokers out there who work for a living and pay insurance who are raising premiums. it's situations like this.

Grendl2000: opiumpoopy: Grendl2000: opiumpoopy: I'd be very surprised if it was IVF; the doctor wouldn't have put in eight eggs.

Well, surprise! It was IVF, according to the grandmother. Eight eggs implanted.

According to the grandmother. If she's right, the doctor should get disciplined by the relevant medical authorities.

Agreed, assuming there are any relevant authorities. I suspect it was not done in the U.S.

I bet it was. And I bet after mom finally outs herself and makes her millions with her book deal the doctor will brag about his or her sucess with IVF.

I was talking to my wife about this re: the Duggars, and she seems to think, from watching her, that she's addicted to being pregnant and the attention it brings her. Maybe that's the case here.

It's just a guess. I told her I just think she's just a religious nutjob who whistles when she walks.

ladyway905: Eclectic [TotalFark] Quote 2009-01-30 12:39:12 PM
Look, let her keep one from each brood, and send the rest to the organ banks. mkay?

It's not really the babies' fault, now is it? I say take the babies away, give them to couples who can't have children (and are obviously more responsible than this woman) and sterilize her. There. That should just about do it.

Oh yeah, and poor gramps. That has to suck.

How much you want to bet that once Grampa gets over to Iraq he will fake his own death or get 'kidnapped', never to be heard from again.

//Godspeed you poor bastard.

2009-01-30 02:21:23 PM
Rubberband Girl: FTFA - Although the babies' mother asked doctors to keep her details confidential, a family acquaintance gave clues to her identity to the American CBS channel.

Shortly afterwards, media camped outside a house in Whittier, near Los Angeles.

That "family acquaintance" needs to be smacked and smacked hard. "Outting" the mother was not his/her call to make and he/she isn't the one who has to deal with the media outside their house.

Here's what I'm trying to figure out - why would someone who already has six kids (and what appears to be a small home) want another one so much that they'd take fertility drugs to get it? To be fair, she probably didn't expect to get so many at once, but I'm wondering what hole in her life she thought she needed to fill with another child that the other six didn't fulfill.

I understand wanting to HAVE kids, I just can't wrap my head around wanting so MANY kids.

Quite honestly, if the situation is the way everyone is assuming, then they deserve the media shiatstorm coming their way.

Can't wait to discover that the mom is on public support, probably gets foodstamps, more than likely doesn't have a job, doesn't have a husband (that's already been established) and'll be right down at the Medicaid office soon as the caesarian sutures heal.

Sometime, somehow, this country is going to need to wake up out of this bullshiat trance that "everything is okay to do" because "you can't judge people". Yes. Yes, I can. And so I proceed:

Six was enough. It's not my opinion. It's a fundamental line drawn somewhere that most would agree with. Hell, to be honest, four was likely enough. But even with six...why the fark is she getting help to get pregnant again?!? It's not like she's had a whole lot of trouble with that particular trick (pun intended) before. It's worked SIX FREAKIN' TIMES ALREADY! Why fertility drugs and IVF?

Next, who paid for those treatments? She's not even living on her own! Did her insurance pay for this? How can an insurance company be denying obvious palliative care to patients on one hand and paying for this ridiculous shiat on the other? They'll cheerfully up everyone's insurance premiums again this year and quote the ever increasing costs of medicine as the reason. Here was a GREAT place for practicing how to say "no". And God knows it better not have been funded with Medicaid...

Where is the morality of the physicians who performed this shiatacular feat of medical idiocy? It may indeed be morally repugnant to perform abortions...but Jebus on a pogostick...this is better? Personally, while I don't like abortion, I'm not going to deny it to others. But where is any moral justification in giving this woman EIGHT babies at once? Nobody's asked this yet (although I won't claim to having read the entire thread previous to the post)...but being pregnant with EIGHT fetus' is not natural. In order for her to have delivered 8 healthy babies means there was a lot of support medicine administered throughout her pregnancy to ensure the delivery date arrived safely. That means, this wasn't a momentary lapse in thought on the part of one person. Lots of people had to buy into this stunt...and then kept supporting it for months! Physicians seem to see morality rather clearly when it comes to the question of the right to die with dignity...but it seems it gets murky when it comes to enabling a woman with paltry means to become a mother of 14. What would we all be saying now had she died somewhere along the way due to complications from...well...carrying eight babies? The doctors surely would have been criminally and civilly liable. I'd love to see the California AG bring a civil action against the physicians for child support if it turns out this woman applies for aid.

But still...it's nearly everyday now that there's something about the my beloved USA that mandates a facepalm reaction. Just add this one to the list.

We don't regulate reproduction because that's a dangerous road to go down for human rights. Do you really want eugenics to come back to this country? That said, she's definitely irresponsible here, but the best thing we can do at this point is ensure the kids don't grow up to be criminals.

I find what this woman did repugnant. This is why I believe you should have to pass some time of test before you are allowed to have children...

That being said...I find it interesting that not even 100 years ago, people had large families of 12-14 and no one batted an eye, now it is considered like a freak show. Now, I realize the circumstances are quite different nowadays, but if you are willing to put in the time and effort (and money) necessary to raise those kids, then I say go for it.

And to those of you who say that the Duggars and Jon & Kate are exploiting their children, I disagree. They are giving those kids opportunities that would have NEVER been open to them (i.e. univeristy education, trips, etc). Every person in this world has, at one time or another, used someone or something to get things they couldn't normally get, so don't pass judgement on people who are trying to give their kids the best life possible, considering their circumstances. They are not sponging off the system, they are trying to care for their families on their own.

HAMMERTOE: So, in the process of "fixing" the problem, who are you going to prevent from breeding; the people who carry their weight, or the people who don't?

Still doesn't excuse violating people's rights. As said earlier in the thread, countries that have women's rights and education have lower birth rates. They also happen to be the countries that are making attempts to protect the environment. I still stand by my assertion that education and improving the standard of living do far more towards the environment than draconian population controls that have unintended side-effects (see China's one-child policy for what I mean).

cryinoutloud: That's good that the hospital is keeping mum about how these babies were conceived. Why, litters of babies are often born naturally. Sextuplets run in my family.

She may not have told the doctor that she already had a bunch of kids before she received the treatments. And even if she did--it's like people getting horrible plastic surgery. You can advise against it, but in the end, your job is to do what the patient wants, unless it's going to threaten their life.

And yet, when I went on a tirade a few months ago about my Ob-Gyn refusing to discuss Essure or another permanent sterilization treatment with me, I was told that it's the "doctor's choice whether or not to discuss an unneeded treatment." WTF.

Seriously, I'm fairly certain after six kids she would have had medical records they could have pulled, and if they somehow missed the fact that only adds to the doctor's negligence. The doctor should have refused to do it on principle.

Of course I also think that if you have IVF, you should have to sign a contract that you will allow the doctors to reduce the litter down to a manageable amount.

When the news first broke about this perpetual heifer in heat, I thought everything would probably be paid for by The Discovery Channel or TLC. If Jon + Kate + 8 was such a ratings * hit, then surely a real life Apu & Manjula would be too. Now it's known that it's only unwed baby mama, mommom, pop pop and 6 other kids. I'll be the first to launch a hate mail campaign against any tv network that financially rewards these irresponsible tax leeches. I hope those babies become wards of the state and adopted out to responsible, childless couples.

Umkay, I agree that she is an attention whore and pregnancy earns her the attention she so desires. BUT just thinking... maybe... she lied to doctors about already having 6 children and participated in a fertility study where they pay you to take drugs/get IVF. If she's around 35 and told them she was unable to conceive, those doctors probably jumped at the chance to try and knock her up. Maybe the fertility testing paid good and when she found out that she was pregnant with 7 babies, filed for bankruptcy, ditched the house, moved to Cali/in with mom & dad and figures the state will take up the slack financially. And then of course there is the $tory to $ell.
