I don't understand. They didn't have a television, and so borrowed the television to "play Playstation." But why do they have a Playstation if they don't have a television? Why? This doesn't make any sense.

The confrontation sounds more like the guy shot in self-defense. The article makes it sound like the "victim" and a few of the victim's friends basically attacked the guy. If that's the case, yeah it sucks, but the kid had it coming.

The possibilities, let me show you them:
Stole it.
Rented it.
Borrowed it from cousin Antawn who got it from clueless Aunt Shaniqua.
Had their TV repo'ed by Rent-a-Center.
Pawned their TV to pay off the payday loan they used to buy grills.

This morning it occurred to me that I have 8 TVs in my house. Half are hooked up and being used, the other half in storage. I guess I could have loaned him one if I'd have known.

You can get a TV to play Playstation for $20 on Craigslist. Doesn't seem worth shooting anyone over.

What the hell kinda of name is Cloves Roche anyway? Sounds more like a alternative rockband than the name of a wanted killer.

I personally always kill people in front of or under a TV. never over.

Well - the first name is definitely the kind of cigarette his mother was smoking as she gave birth.

It really denpends on the person, and the TV. There are right and wrong reasons for both.

Step#1: Buy a Playstation.
Step#2: Figure out that TV is required afterwards.
Step#3: Borrow neighbor's TV.
Step#4: Profit Shoot neighbor for TV.

Random Guy: What the hell kinda of name is Cloves Roche anyway?

Well, judging that it is East Harlem, I'd imagine the mother just named the child after a spice she found on the floor after giving birth to him on her futon during a basketball game on TV.

That might be worth a homicide rap.

He didn't shoot him over a TV. They got into a fight over a TV. The fight escalated to point where the dead guy and his friends jumped the shooter, and the shooter pulled out a gun in response. I say let the guy off on self defense.

The article reports that the neighbor in question is a convicted felon, who would thus not legally be allowed to possess a firearm. Such willful disregard for the law in committing a felony act would reduce the credibility of a self-defense claim.

What of the charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon?

Eh, so charge him with that, but not murder. Then again, if the charge for being a felon in possession of a firearm is a felony itself, they may get him for felony murder.

Oh yes...it would in fact be felony murder. He should look at the bright side; in prison he can watch TV all day.

Felony murder in NY only applies to certain violent felonies. Possessing a weapon, or pot plants, or cheating on your taxes does not put you on the hook for felony murder.

He's still liable to state and federal charges for the firearm possession, though.
