The guy was charged with violating the law least-likely to be obeyed, ever:

wearing a mask while committing an offense.

"Hmmm, I'm going to rob this dude at gunpoint, but I better not put this mask on because that's illegal."

Of all the things to steal, why something that's completely traceable?

"Who ya gonna' call?"

Hopefully a lawyer.

FTA:

Joshua Taneal Curry of the 400 block of Southeast Lake Street in Stuart has been charged with auto burglary, grand theft, extortion armed with a gun, possession of a firearm by a delinquent under the age of 24, carrying a concealed firearm and wearing a mask while committing an offense.

I love when the charges are so specific. Not a lot of wiggle room, is there?

A similar thing happened to me a year ago when some punk found my phone at a concert. I called it for two days straight before he decided to pick up. He didn't want to return it without getting *something* in return. Being in a rush and not wanting to involve the police, the whole situation was settled with a bottle of Jack. I may have temporarily made that punk happy but he'll get his own one day.

That little shiat will probably become some burly guy's girlfriend, and then he will see if he made the right decision.

Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, while customarily not naming juveniles accused of crimes, does name some juveniles depending on the seriousness of the crime, their age, aggravating circumstances and other factors.

yeah---like sheer stupidity.

I'm curious why they didn't have an undercover cop do the meeting to get the phone instead of the actual victim. Seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen if something went bad.

I mean did the kid even know what the victim looked like?

My roommate found a chick's cell phone at a concert the other day. He called her sister, somehow found her in the contact list, and she came to pick it up. She gave us a package of chocolate covered peanuts, raisins, and almonds as a thank you.

This guy shoulda said he found it, and hoped for reward peanuts. sucker.

2009-01-26 05:44:53 PM
He should have mailed the phone back with a self-addressed-stamped-envelope so the victim could mail the cash back. That way the cops couldn't nab him at the meeting!

I don't remember Obama saying his "greatest moral failing" was breaking into a car to jack a phone and then try to extort the owner.

/Pretty sure he said it was smoking pot and snorting coke.

Apparently, the first think some people do is take a few pictures on the phone.

Hey should just say that the 150 bux was for his time and effort to help him return the cell phone he found on the street. Otherwise, he will just drop it off next time he is in the area.
Which will be never.

Same story, same ethnicity.

Why?

2009-01-26 06:08:03 PM
My story:

one time i lost my phone in a movie theatre and i went streight back but it was closed, then the next day i went back in the morning and it was gone. (the janitors took it)

so i sent scary looking text messages to it from VZW adresses saying that the phone was being tracked and the police were being notified. that didn't work, i just bought a new phone.

turns out the people who found it spoke spanish.

/my only recorse was that i got to tell the people that called that thier friend had stolen that 2 weeks of service and i had taken it back.
//of corse they only spoke spanish too
///oh well.

He also denied he was in a gang, the report says, but detectives found several pictures on the stolen phone showed Curry posing with the gun and flashing gang signs.

Flashing ganglike signs actual gang member.

My friend swiped a cellphone once. It was sitting on the bar and he just decided to grab it. About an hour later it rings and my friend answers it...it's the owner.

we're still sitting at the bar and the owner is at the payphones across the casino. He says he wants his phone back and there'll be no issue at all if he brings it back to him. My friend, being the jackass that he is, tells the guy "sure thing man, I'm the big Mexican guy at the far end of the bar." (he's actually a 5'9" 220 lb whiteboy)

We witnessed one helluva fight in the parking lot that night.

Good thing he didn't steal ice cream. He would have had to keep it cold throughout the whole ordeal.

I found someone's Iphone, and they began to berate me as a piece of dirt when I answered. I calmly told her I found the phone, then she demanded I drive to her to deliver it. I should have made her drive clear across chicago to get it, but no I let her pick it up near my work a short distance. She looked like a smoking chimney coke head, and told me "thanks and good things will happen to good people". No reward.

You are a better person than I. Upon being told to deliver it, I would have set up some kind of "Dirty Harry' phone call scheme, making her run to payphones and stuff.

2009-01-26 06:20:12 PM
I found a cell phone in the street once, and instead of going out of my way to find the owner, simply waited for someone to call. When the phone rang and "Home" was blinking on the display, I figured this is probably the owner. She simply came to where I was and I gave her the phone. She offered cash and I refused, because I had lost my phone the month before, and knew the situation she was in.

I can see how what happened to me could easily be confused with theft of a phone, depending on the owner of the phone.

/maybe I should not be a good samaritian anymore?

2009-01-26 06:21:42 PM
Hahaha, Oh my.

Had this happen to me, dropped my phone around where I live, which is pretty famous for being a home for the criminally stupid.

Idiot calls one of the members in my Motorcycle Club and says I'll sell your friend's phone back to him for (n). Member in my Motorcycle Club asks him why not just return it? Said Idiot says well either buy it from me or I'll just sell it in the flats. Member in my Motorcycle Club says sure, that's reasonable. I'll give you the cash for it and he can pay me back, meet me behind (foo) in (buh) hours.

Heh, well... we got the phone back.
