I got 99 problems but a trust fund blown to smithereens by Madoff aint one.

guvnor:
No way should this bastard ever be allowed to touch any of the money you know he has squirreled away somewhere in the Cayman Islands.

Squirreled away nothing. His neighbors have said that UPS and FedEx trucks make regular stops at his house and are carting off tons of boxes.
He claims he was sending out tons of holiday gifts, but the assumption is that every painting, status, and piece of jewelry that he owns has gone to his children or properties out of country.

My guess, based on the massive amounts of stolen money that he funneled to Israeli charities over the years, is that he will be moving there soon. They will do absolutely zero to send him back or take his assets, great ally of ours though they may be....

F42: How do you prepare for college if your trust fund can't pay for it anymore?

student loans like everyone else

my only input would be "new or used"?

you got that right. along the lines that a middle class/poor person is 'weird' when a wealth person is 'eccentric'. along those same lines.
its only bad in america if you steal and get caught. if you don't get caught, then you're clever and successful.

the banking system's goal is for everyone to be in debt to the banks. that way, they can control everything and, ultimately, own everything.
oldest trick in the book.

LOCNAR69: like rich trust fund kids do ANYTHING themselves--probably had the butler or gardener do it--they most likely sit at home and text each other while soaking in a hot tub--

rich people suck--especially those living off the sweat of a long dead relative

still thinks madoff should hang for what he did--along with the rest of the banking farkers that got rich screwing up our economy

i see you subscribe to the chinese method of anti-corruption then...

Too bad a little realism and dicipline can foil their cunning plan.

Oh... right.

As a job? I mean, did you have to apply and get interviewed, and was it hourly, salary or commission?

I too would like to know how to get into this "life of crime". It would be nice to have that kind of job security. I would also have no clue on how to launder money. Is it required? I did break into my car with a ball point pen once.

Remember: when you get to prison, tell em "Senor Awesome sent me!" (new window)

vernonFL: People can and do get caught for arson, which is a very serious crime.

Arson is not a crime to be encouraged or condoned for any reason.

For example, I would never condone pouring gasoline through the mail slot, or into the dryer vent.

The real trick is to just pay your damn taxes. Create a business that uses cash (Buy and "operate" a taxi, for example), and go ahead and claim $150,000 a year and pay tax on it. As long as the government gets their cut, they really don't care where it came from. Pay your mortgage and car payment with that... anything else in the world you want, food, pool tables, plasma TV's, some super blinging rims, etc you just pay cash for. As long as the item is under $10,000, the IRS doesn't need to be notified.

/In my experience, 99.9% of criminals have very poor accounting skills

D: Throw molotov cocktails instead

E: Move down the street and hit Ann Coulter's place with TNT.

Done...

The_EliteOne: So how exaclty does having a trust fund work if you are a teenager? Do you get a special debit card or something?

dbaggins: It is kept "in trust". A trust fund. The kid doesn't get access until some time in the future. Hence the name "trust fund"

Holy crap. Thanks for the snotty wrong answer, Mr. Expert!

Look up dynasty trusts. 3503(c) trusts. estate trusts. Even charitable remainder trusts can designate kids as income recipients. There's all kinds of trusts that pay kids a Porsche-sized allowance.

worlddan: I admire Madoff, I really do. It takes a special kind of person to pull of a fraud that big; to keep the lie going for so long. It reminds me of the old saying that saints are just devils who have gone in the opposite direction. Truly, he is a better man than me. More planful, more patient, more energetic. My idea of ripping someone off is sleeping an extra couple of hours. Forget about brains, I simply don't have the energy; I don't care enough to steal 50 billion dollars.
You need to live in NY and be a Jew.

2009-01-26 04:33:42 PM
Look. You can't blame Madoff for investing all his clients' money in those Nigerian deals. The returns would have been fantastic and it could all have worked out well for everyone. No risk, no reward. Who knew the Nigerian emails were not legit, I ask?

I'd like to suggest the phrase "Ecrasez L'enfame"
/crush the infamous

illusi0n: gadian: I've toyed with the idea of buying some side walk space in key locations such as along wall street and on capital hill and just setting up a functioning guillotine.

Of course there would be dozens of warning signs that it is real and dangerous and not a toy and only "bad people" should go inside.

I'd just leave it there. A suggestion if you will. Maybe it'll get put to use in a riot.

Nah, put it on a trailer so you can go back and forth between Wall St. and Washington D.C. Put a nice sign on there that says something like "Maybe the French were right about something"

Brilliant! I love how someone stole a statue. That guy gets everything he deserves. I hope they throw him in jail for taking people's money like that.

d) all of the above

2009-01-26 05:51:06 PM
I'm going to have to go with option D as well, Madoff sounds like he deserves a case of high velocity lead poisoning.

2009-01-26 06:45:01 PM
Maybe these kids should be asking the "charities" in Israel for their money back instead. Madoff money by the shipload to Israel, and a lot of investors want it returned - not hearing much about that in the media.

2009-01-26 06:52:05 PM
I got an "option D" solution I'd like to offer

2009-01-26 07:21:50 PM
Ya know, that really was a half assed TPing job. That'll take his gardener all of like 5 maybe 10 minutes to get out of the tree. I've seen better work done around here as part of a local high school homecoming, and that's done in the sprit of fun. These kids are supposedly pissed at this guy, I expected alot more effort. Kids today, I swear...

/And get off my lawn!

Came here to verify that I wasn't the only one who got the reference here:

Just last month, someone swiped a $10,000 piece of bronze yard art from the property only to return it with a note: "Bernie the Swindler, Lesson: Return Stolen Property to rightful owners. Signed by - The Educators," the note read.

Please tell me that it is so obvious, we aren't discussing it.

I could have used a Goodbye, Lenin reference in the East Germany thread!!!

Some verify that my accidental minor is German was worth something!!!

oh yeah, the movie is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Edukators

went back to the East Germany thread and there were a pair of Good Bye Lenin! references. Faith in Fark restored. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301357/

alfredromeo: We shoot and kill young black men for stealing a lot less.

No we dont, they get shot for breaking into the wrong houses and deservedly so, bernie had money given to him by people who trusted his dumb ass.

I keep waiting for one of them to grow a set of balls and get rid of him.

dreadprophet: orclover: Buddy of mine lost a major portion of his net worth to this guy. Alot of people did. To think that Madoff only has to worry about getting up to 5 years in prison, i'm in the wrong biz.

Yeah, and 5 lifetimes worth of paranoia. If the guy doesn't get whacked he'll probably end up a being a total nutter.

I think the max penalty for corporate fraud is 10 years now, after the whole Enron / WorldCom / Adelphia stuff went down back in 01-02.

Here's what I hope will happen: Madoff goes to prison for 5 or 10 years. He makes some friends in prison, and talks them into investing some money with him when he gets out. The next time the market gets a little f'ed up, they'll ask for their money back, and it turns out Bernie doesn't have any. Then he'll find out that Don Vincenzo doesn't play by the same rules as the SEC. Everybody plays, everybody loses.

Madoff deserve to be drawn and quartered on a Pay Per View Special.

Those advocating arson are missing the point - It's not like his house isn't insured, he'd likely get the entirety of the value. The best bet - make it unlivable somehow, particularly mold. Insurance doesn't cover it for the most part.

My room mate does emergency home restoration... which is just a fancy term for fixing mold and water damage. Home owners insurance most definately covers mold.

As for burning down his house "not doing anything" because of insurance... wasn't everyone all uppity just a few days ago because a judge allowed Madoff to stay in his home awaiting trial intead of being in jail? That might be kind of hard if his house is burned to the ground, insurance or not.

Not to mention if somone firebombed YOUR house... it might make you feel a bit uneasy about your safety, no?

/Any discomfort for this fark is a good thing
//You really think an insurance company is just going to cut a check to a known fraud artist? Might raise some flags, you know?

IF I had lost my trust fund to that douchebag, i would have burned his house down. tp is what lame dorky snobs in boca do.

Not everyone in Palm Beach County is a trust funder. On the island of Palm Beach, thats closer to the truth.

/Lives in Palm Beach County
//Lives pay check to pay check
///Mommy and Daddy don't pay for anything
