Good lord. How loose does a ring have to be to fall off your damn hand when you do something as mundane as flush a toilet? Get that thing sized already!

Sold it for cocaine, eh?

If the ring fit that loosely on her finger then she should have had it sized to fit.

That being said, WTF are you doing at a diner? If your fiance can afford a $78,000 engagement ring you'd think he could afford to take you somewhere nicer than a diner.

2009-01-24 05:39:47 PM
Jesus christ, that's an expensive ring

All women know that in a public restroom you flush the toilet with your foot...not your hand!

You're supposed to read the articles?

....reads TFA....

Wow, a real lost ring. Still wouldn't you be suspicious? A ring that doesn't fit, a $78k ring that didn't fit, a toilet in a diner, a lousy economy, etc

I've chopped off fingers for lesser rings.

Give it up and quit reaching dude. Paying $6200 to recover it and then tipping $1000 on top of that doesn't really jive with wanting to commit insurance fraud. The insurance probably wouldn't have paid anyways.

Just a dumb woman who didn't get a $78k ring sized properly (or took it off for some reason), nothing more.

Woman's a dumbass for wearing a ring that would fall right off her finger, and her fiance is a dumbass for giving her a ring that expensive.

So they'll probably live happily ever after, and produce a bunch of dumbass kids.

What a cheap ass. The ring I bought my wife holds way more than 78k.

Buy a $78,000 engagement ring and your marriage is already destined for the fail tag.

Diamonds are artificially high anyway.

This.

What the hell? It had better be a chip off of the Hope diamond for that price. Get it sized already.

I bet the ring looks like shiat now.

I know someone who informed her training class at a retail store that her ring cost $20K. She pretty much talks about nothing *but* that damned ring.

$78K for an engagement ring? This is the beginning of a very expensive marriage.

2009-01-24 08:36:28 PM
All the hate. :( Everyone got paid for their time and tipped on top of it. That's cool.

Still a big fat fail for losing her ring, but at least they were nice about it.

Pretty sure that anything over $50k buys back-door action.

Oh and, to the chick who "lost" the rock...

Hard to say much about the couple except for the chick - wearing a loose $78k ring... I'm gonna guess she doesn't PhD in molecular biology.

Having said that the guy tipped everyone out, paid for it all and didnt try to pull some BS about the toilet being too low or too high or too porcelain-y or some other nonsense to try and get out of paying for the demo work.

All said and done $78k IS over the top but he wont even make the top 10,000 dumbasses which will be featured on Fark in '09

A $78K ring, or a $5K ring, two business class tickets to London for a week's holiday and one of these to get you both home from the reception.

Call it a fiance test.

Manufactured diamonds are better in every way than the "real" thing.

Though, if you're not financing some DeBeers executive's fifth yacht, what's the point, really? It's a rock.

Don't EVER give my Hubby advice on jewelery buying, OK? Not saying you're wrong but- just don't.

What I found out and uber-doucheish is how they made sure all the tip amounts were in there.

De Beers must be happy people are still paying those amounts even in todays economy.

$78,000 for a seven carat diamond means the diamond is really bad quality. Believe it or not!

To be fair, it picked up 2 carrots when it was flushed.

2009-01-24 09:26:21 PM
That must have been a pretty crappy diamond. Seriously.

For a 7 carat princess cut diamond (looks like it from the picture) to cost anywhere less than $100k, you'd probably have to have some very serious inclusions (think I1 or worse), and/or a color grade of J or worse.

2009-01-24 09:28:51 PM
You would think that if you can afford a 78k ring, you could afford to pay a little extra to get the thing sized so it didn't fall off.

2009-01-24 09:29:16 PM
What purpose does a diamond in a ring serve?

2009-01-24 09:29:52 PM
hell, for that matter, for 78k, I want the thing sized for free.

A good seven carat diamond runs you $200k. A really good one could be 350k+. A colleague of mine got a near 3 carat, $80k ring when she got engaged. The good ones are not cheap.

It's the hand of a plumber that has been digging in diner sewage for a few hours.
