About the only things it has that the iPhone doesn't are a digital compass and a camera that focuses. The killer app is the one that scans the barcode, but barcodes are just numbers, so why not just write an iPhone app that lets you enter the UPC?

Why don't I have a my G2 yet? This data could be interpreted as pain.

The more contact it has with humans, the more it learns that 99% of its users are total douchbags that don't know to hang the fark up in an elevator.

So, if your name is Sarah Conner, you probably shouldn't buy this phone...

Cool, now when it be cheap enough for me to buy one?

BTW, the headline is obviously missing "and finds Sarah Conner".

My iPhone is a piss-poor phone. The sound quality in a call is as bad as any phone I have ever used. It does everything else well, except be a phone.

Maybe because the numbers themselves are tiny and numerous, making it a long, annoying, tedious process to type them in?

If it has a compass already, the killer app would be a thing that tells time.

As a Verizon customer, I don't have that problem since the elevator terminates my call when I enter it.

It's called Snappr.net, and it works either manually or via the camera.

So far, every application released for the G1 has been free. Google has yet to enable paid applications on the market. There will likely be more interesting applications once that happens.

They're getting rid of the physical keyboard? Why?

I've been waiting to upgrade to one of these super duper next-gen smartphones but haven't bought an iPhone because I simply cannot type fast on the virtual keyboard (I have the iPod Touch, so it's not like I haven't tried).

Oddly enough, I have found the phone quality to be excellent, but the email/text usefulness to be sub-par. The big screen/no keyboard tradeoff is a valid one, but I think my next phone will be one with a physical keyboard.

There are several. There's even a case which has a little lense built in to it to help focus better on the bar codes.

As for the digital compass... well, it's got Google maps enabled GPS, so that's not too useful. I'm sure there's a digital compass on the app store though.

There's a few little things I wish the iPhone had... but nothing too earth-shattering. It's definately my favorite gadget ever. Nice phone too!

If only I didn't have a personal vendetta against AT&T. I'd be all over that. I'm still holding out to someday getting one of the cool smart phones, but right now I'm locked into a contract with Verizon, and can't bring myself to pay those assholes an extra $90 a month on top of my current bill just to use half the features they offer.
