Well to be truthful Jobs exit was not accounted for in these numbers. Odds are he waited until the books were closed before leaving.

Hopes that the next year breaks more records.

I'm absolutely loving my iPod Touch I got from Santa. My son loves the free Star Wars light saber app I downloaded.

I also just got an iPod Touch 2G for my bday, and I must say it is the coolest gadget I've ever owned.

Yeah, I'm an Apple fan, but I'm not one of those crazy ones that will buy anything just because Apple made it.

i'm amazed at the sheer number of people that replace perfectly good (working) Ipods with a brand new one simply because they're available.

Our economy isn't in the crapper, someone started a bad rumor and it snowballed from there.

They're cheap enough to be essentially disposable. I mean, seriously- a couple hundred bucks every year or two? No biggie, that.

I got an iPhone last week and went from a Zune owning, Quicktime Alternative using Apple hater to a legitimate iPhone fanboy so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

If you're technically minded, I highly recommend JailBreaking it. It's not difficult, but you have to have some confidence about your ability to rescue your phone if something does go wrong (I've had no trouble with jailbreaking).

anyone else experiencing issues with the headphone jack on their touch? I've got to send it in now (one year warranty is up in March)I don't mind the shipping fee I guess, but wanted to see if this has been a big issue with the model

Whether it's disposable isn't really the point. There's no benefit or 'upside' to changing out a working Ipod, but so many people do it so they can be "up" on the current model. it's pretty stupid actually.

So there's no difference between the old model and the new model? Apple doesn't add features or change the amount of storage or shrink the form factor or release versions that have entirely different UIs.

Did everyone think apple would completely tank in the 2 weeks that Jobs has been teetering on death? Give this another quarter or two to work itself out...

This is the first Apple product I've used since my dad brought home the Apple IIe with the dual external disk drives. Love playing Zork on that thing. So I'm in no way an Apple fanboy but the Touch rocks. No denying that.

The stock price from mid last year was ridiculously inflated. Contrast their plummet to Google's, and suddenly they're not doing that bad.

So if someone has a version that doesn't play video and they want one that does, you're saying they shouldn't upgrade? New features, larger storage capacity, etc --- sometimes there are compelling reasons to get a new iPod.

And if they are changing just simply to have the latest & greatest then I am fine with that as I need my stock price to go back up to a more reasonable level.

It's a big jump between the old wheel ones and the touch...wifi, email, web, decent games, better display, youtube, decent looking movies, etc. If all you want is an MP3 player, you'd be better off with a non Apple device anyway. Their DRM sucks donkey balls.

I got a touch to develop games for. I wasn't really all that excited about it until I actually started playing with it. It's the coolest gadget I've owned in maybe a decade. I understand why they're making bank on them.

You mean the DRM that isn't forced on you any more? And even when it was, so what? Don't buy through iTunes. I've had iPods for ages, and I don't have a lick of DRM-restricted music.

AmazingRuss: I got a touch to develop games for.

I keep meaning to develop an iPhone app. Nothing has really struck me as a killer app that would justify the initial investment of my time. But if you're ever looking to subcontract out some work, let me know. I've worked in ObjC before, although it's not my strongest language. I'm killer with OOD&P in general though.

This perfectly sums up my experience with the iPhone. I clowned on it and disregarded it for some reason. Unjustifiably clowned on it as an Apple hater.

Then I went into the ATT store the other day to get a new phone and I played with one for almost 45 minutes. After actually holding one and using it and playing around with it and realizing how cool it was, it was like "I HAVE to have this. I dont even care if I have to use iTunes."

What DRM? By the end of next month all of ITMS will be DRM free. Videos will still have suck-ass DRM, as they do on every other downloadable platform but the music will be unencumbered at the bitrate will increase.

Well, the touch is a whole different piece of equipment. I'm comparing a 5th gen Ipod with a 6th gen "classic". hardly an upside I can find, especially for the $250 price tag. Yet, I see people everyday that "upgrade" because a new one got released, and for that reason only.

I don't own an MP3 player, but if I did it would likely be an ipod. The controls are very similar to my Sonos (or should I say the Sonos is very similar to the Ipod....), but I don't get the idea of blowing money, even what some consider "a small amount" on essentially what you already own in a slightly smaller case.

Some people will buy anything you tell them to though.

Tell that to your fellow mac heads.
