submitter: causing hundreds of dollars in damage

What, Subby, are you high? Those Jack Daniel's crystal whiskey decanters are expensive! Do you KNOW how much a well done Velvet Elvis is WORTH these days?

i always love that joke

Wow. It's too bad they "discovered" it. If they hadn't, it probably wouldn't have ever been a problem. But now that they know it's there, I expect a major seismic event within two years.

Out of sight, out of mind. Kind of like how Wile E. Coyote would be fine if he just never looked down when he walked off a cliff, y'know?

Bzzt, sorry, we were looking for "hundreds of dollars in improvements."

Ennuipoet: Do you KNOW how much a well done Velvet Elvis is WORTH these days?

About $19.95 for a sofa-sized painting according to the "Starving Artists Art Sale" commercials.

Perhaps not so valuable in worldly terms, but I think elvis art is like fried chicken soup for the soul.

Between this and the New Madrid fault, I'm glad I don't live in the flyover states!

I see the headlines now: HUGE EARTHQUAKE DEVASTATES NORTH! MILLIONS OF SOUTHERNERS FOUND STILL ALIVE!

2009-01-22 12:25:48 PM
Sounds like an excuse for Insurance Companies to raise rates on people that live there to me...

It's probably part of the New Madrid.

my cousin (who lives in Arkansas) named her daughter Payton Aron (yeah, it's a girl, and yes Aron like Elvis Aron Presley).

i had deer burgers...

deer burgers are delicious. Especially since my uncle grounded up some bacon with the meat. Oh mercy it was wonderful. that alone should be enough to save the south. They think up new ways to use bacon every day. Bless them and their green shagged carpet bathrooms.

Is it just possible that they "found" this fault to justify their existence?

2009-01-22 12:29:16 PM
they just now got that technology to discover fault lines. Im impressed...

What did the bacon do to get grounded?

From their website, this is the staff of the Arkansas Earthquake Center.

# Dr. Haydar Al-Shukri- Director
# Dr. Hanan Mahdi- Research Assistant Professor
# Sami Eyuboglu- Graduate Student
# Basil Miller- Graduate Student
# Oqba Al-qadi- Graduate Student

"Basil Miller" is probably an alias for "Bashir Al-Mujahedein", methinks.

Isn't this a yearly article? I swear every year we hear of the potential devastation.

I'm from Mississippi, so I'd normally be offended. However, I've been to the Delta, and the headline isn't far off. It is the poorest part of the country.

It would be in the thousands. I've never see a trailer park that didn't have a big ass television in it.

Plus, white trash don't keep money in banks, they hide it in their cars or mattresses.

Arkansas is a beautiful state if you've never been. It's just a lot of the people are ugly.

Scruffy the janitor: Between this and the New Madrid fault, I'm glad I don't live in the flyover states!

Yeah it's tough living in huge cheap houses, and smoking 3 dollar packs of cigs. While living in a city with two opera houses. Also no income tax.

An earthquake could be pretty devastating- though they've been talking about the Big One as fact ever since I can remember, I don't think many buildings are constructed with any added precautions. Don't really have many over 10 stories anyway.

we would have also accepted "in other news, there is an arkansas earthquake center", or something about it being "obama's fault", but at a discounted rate of +1/2.

You know, we have deer in the North too. But really, what wouldn't be good with bacon grounded in it?

I hope those poor insurance companies do the right thing and raise homeowners insurance 300-400% in those states. I would hate for any shareholders to lose any of their margin.

2009-01-22 12:41:02 PM
Billygoat Gruff yeah, near Bentonville, NW corner of Arkansas. We went down there to visit relocated friends last fall. Got motion sickness driving through the back roads in the mountains. Back and forth, back and forth. Took us an hour to drive around a lake that could have been crossed in 2 minutes with a bridge. But maye this is why they don't want to build bridges. They'll be totaled by an earthquake soon enough.

/pretty caves in the ozarks.

Bullshiat. I'd put our Southern Belle's up against any corn-fed Iowa girl any day :D

I'd imagine most of downtown Memphis would be FUBAR'd. I'd want to be in the Pyramid.

wildcardjack: Is it just possible that they "found" this fault to justify their existence?

Actually with the New Madrid fault, the Faulkner-White county seismic zone and this new fault, Arkansas is pretty active for a non-Pacific Rim area.
