what about for motorboaterists? probably need a fair amount for that

And it's .04 for pilots. Different tasks require different levels of clarity.

That said, .1 is way to high to be driving a car, and .04 is too high to be flying a plane. Drink or operate motor vehicles. Pick one.

Headline is flat wrong.

Iowa's blood-alcohol limit for boat operators will probably be lowered this year from .10 to .08, key lawmakers said Tuesday.

If approved, the law for boaters would match the blood-alcohol limit for operating a motor vehicle.
God... dammit. How hard is this, to read things and understand them?

This is good; every spring you need a boat to drive anywhere in Iowa anyway.

States with DUI laws that require proof of intoxication or anything other than BAC over .08% are punished under federal highway laws. The last state caved in about three years ago. I think Iowa went to .08% around 2003.

Most recreational boaters barely know how to drive a boat as it is...and many turn into instant douche bags once they are on the water.

The idea that one can still drive drunk is the worst argument I've ever heard. Although PoopStain is trolling I'll still bite.
Every year 40k+ die in car accidents for a variety of reasons. Even sober people under complete control of their vehicle die for various reasons.
Don't drink and drive, it's real easy. Either pick a sober driver, or spring for a cab with your friends. If you have money to buy drinks at the bar, you defininately have money to afford a cab ride home.

No one should be behind the wheel if they could blow a .08, let alone a .10. IMHO, your license should be revoked for 5 years one the first offense. There is no excuse for drunk driving, period. It's farking stupid to suggest otherwise, simply because you may have done it a number of times safely. The one time it goes wrong, it'll likely go really wrong for someone else.

The argument isn't for drunk driving vs. anti-drunk driving. The argument is what constitutes drunk driving? I for one, have no problem operating a vehicle at .08. Now if you want to say "People have died when someone is driving at .08!" Feel free. But that argument can be applied to all driving.

And if you want to talk about statisticians giving evidence that .08 is too drunk, also, feel free if it helps you sleep at night. But these are probably the same statisticians that tell people that 5 drinks or more in a sitting is binge drinking because drinking has always been taboo (prohibition anyone?).

Having grown up in Iowa, I can say that most Hawkeye Staters should be chained up in the yard 24/7, regardless of intoxication level.

But boating while blind drunk is an American tradition, damnit! Here in Utah we celebrate it by driving speedboats full bore into Lake Powell's slickrock cliffs.

Hell, what are people supposed to do on spring break, July 4th, Pioneer Day? Besides, Youtube needs the content.

This is the worst part of DUI. People are impaired by alcohol differently. Some couldn't drive at 0.05 and some would be fine at 0.1. A blanket law based a number doesn't really quantify impalement sucks.

Hell my drug and alcohol counselor exgf said 10 drinks a week was considered an issue. Let's see, 1 drink a day after work or with dinner and a couple on saturday night. That certainly is signs of a problem.

Seems like a lot of huge morons forget that boats have no brakes.

I can't understand why you don't need a license to operate a boat on inland waterways. You need one for a car or for a motorcycle or truck. A boat is not all that much different.

Some people can drive safely at 90 MPH. Some chicks are mature enough to give consent before the age of consent in their state. Blanket laws are part of everyday life. It is most efficient to have a clear line that everyone follows. Sure it would be wonderful if everyone was given a set of rules tailored specifically to them but you are not a unique snowflake. The laws are designed to apply to "most people". If you are exceptional and better than "most people" suck it up and deal with it.

for women, it's technically an issue (and because governmeny scientists say they have smaller brains, like a squirrel). ADA and other organizations say 2 standard drinks/day men (14/week) and 1 standard drink/day (7/week) for women is drinking in moderation; above that is "hazardous" or somesuch term.
