Holy fark that was a hard hit. I was seriously nervous the guy was dead for a minute there.

Kept watching his head snap back in the replay in high-def...man, they really punished McGahee for those early touchdowns.

2009-01-18 11:03:08 PM
If McGahee had stayed in Buffalo, this wouldn't have happened! Cause he'd be playing golf right now.

2009-01-18 11:35:10 PM
Hit him so hard his grandmother felt it. Man I hope he's ok.

Damn! farked that brother up!

That game was unbelievably boring compared to the Eagles/Cardinals.

2009-01-18 11:35:47 PM
It looked painful, hopefully he'll be okay. I keep checking Google News for an update but there hasn't been anything.

2009-01-18 11:36:01 PM
That was a killer hit. Two men, running full tilt, slammed their heads into each other. I'm glad nobody died or got paralyzed from that.

Agreed. Also, looks like someone decided to collect the "bounty" on Hines Ward, seeing that he didn't play much in the 2nd half.

Did we watch the same game? Because I was screaming at my television for a big chunk of that game.

So he had a O'Donoghue's triad in college. Missed a year. Now what looks like a pretty nasty concussion at best. Next up...?

He's a tough motherfarker.

cpalassis: Also, looks like someone decided to collect the "bounty" on Hines Ward, seeing that he didn't play much in the 2nd half.

Actually, looking at the hit that sidelined Ward, it wasn't someone collecting the bounty. There was nothing intentional about the damage. He got rolled up with his leg in the wrong position.

Honestly, while there was a lot of uncalled stuff, there weren't really any dirty hits in that game.

Nah. The hit that hobbled Ward wasn't dirty or anything. He just landed/planted his leg in a wonky way.

Yeah, even the Steelers didn't seem to want to keep going after that hit. They just handed the ball back to the Ravens.

Dude...we haven't beat you in 6 years and we've already been subjected to seeing you win one Super Bowl this half-decade. The least you could do is not rub it in so much.

2009-01-18 11:44:34 PM
Which was worse? This hit or the one one Bolden earlier in the year?

I think the Bolden hit was one of the worst ever.

Yeah, I'm a newish Steelers fan (I married a Pittsburgher, and until her, I didn't care about football), so I just don't get the Browns hate. Maybe when you guys can field a good team, we'll go back to hating you.

//Wait... that probably doesn't help.

They made a bigger deal of it than it was most likely, just because they don't take any chances.

I like how everyone pissed their pants when McGahee got hit, even after they said he wasn't paralyzed.

It's part of the sport, no need to act extremely shocked when such things happen. It was a great game though, both teams had people absoultely flattened. That Sweed block was tremendous.

It is part of the sport, but no sane person wants to see somebody carried off on a stretcher either.

You'll understand someday when things between us actually become competitive again but, until then, things are about as rivalry-ey between us as the Lakers and the Cowboys.

Dude, don't biatch out. Keep talking shiat. So what if your team is 0-12 in the last 12 meetings. It is like, reverse perfect.

That's from 2005, the last Steelers Superbowl season, when Pittsburgh beat Cleveland 41-0 on Christmas Eve -- Merry Christmas!

Yeah. The real rivalry in my mind is between Steelers and Ravens (the new Browns). I just feel bad for the Browns fans.

I'm in Connecticut these days, and probably scared the crap out of my neighbors screaming during the game tonight. The local sportscaster on the TV just showed the McGahee hit and called Ryan Clark "Danny Clark>. LOL.

Well, I'm sure he took full advantage of his college scholarship and has a great education to fall back on if he can't play sports anymore, right?

Seriously though, there was a hit in, I believe a nationally televised Lions game some years back where they actually hat to perform CPR and give a heart massage to a Lions player after he took such a hard hit that it basically caused his brain to "reboot" and his heart to stop.

I just hope to shiat that the League doesn't make even MORE boneheaded moves to pussify the game.

It's a tremendously violent and vicious sport that people CHOOSE to play and are generously compensated for.

This. It's risky business, and they're paid accordingly. They have access to medical care most of us couldn't get without losing our homes. There's no reason to pussify the games unless you're going to cut salaries too.

This is true. In 99% of not just NFL cases, but sports in general, fans would abandon a team after 45 years of year-to-year, heart-breaking failure. But every year, like clockwork, we go back to the games, hopes held high, have them crushed time and time again, and keep coming back.

Matt Stover is the Old Brown. All the Ravens got was our roster from back then, we kept our history.

I saw a Texas/Texas A&M game a few years back where a player got a hit as bad as McGahee. Same scenario: player was in-and-out of consciousness, feared dying or dead, with the full medical crew were called in, etc. In a stadium full of college rivals, there wasn't a sound as the doctors checked him out, until they signaled that the player was alright, then everyone cheered.

This, as opposed to blaring Creedance and Santana on the loudspeaker while fans cheered that their team got the interception, while players from both teams were visibly praying and grieving over what happened.

Decorum: Steelers fans and/or stadium management need some.

Didn't look much scarier than the helmet in the back that Roethlisberger took after a play. That's how Brad Johnson got to play a Super Bowl with broken vertebrae.

It's really sad to see these guys when they hit 40 and can barely walk and can't turn their necks. But hey, panem et circenses, right?

I have to disagree. As they wheeled him out, I heard numerous fans wish him luck and a speedy recovery.
