I'm sure it will be covered on the nightly news.

2009-01-17 09:24:27 AM
I won't watch it. I hate seeing someone place their hand on a work of fiction as if it makes the person any more or less moral.

2009-01-17 09:25:29 AM
Or, submittard, some of us will be doing both.

Right, because that part is the main bullet point of this presentation.

I wish Obama well, but I really am not interested watching overdone meaningless pomp and ceremony.

Enjoy the day, Barry, then get to work.

You can count me in the "will be working" group.

/may actually go into the office on Monday to prepare for my Tuesday morning meeting
//couldn't get me near the clusterfark that will be DC on Tuesday anyway

2009-01-17 09:28:48 AM
I'll be working just north of DC. Clients around DC are SOL for anything we can't do remotely that day.

It certainly is important enough to warrant strong investigative journalism into which fiction President Obama will use, a Quran (why would he)or a Bible.

I'll judge him by the actions he makes, not how well his celebration speech goes.

Our company is setting up live feeds in all the conference rooms so all the people streaming it from their desks won't destroy our network. They even sent out a company wide memo about it.

It'll be a normal day in the Canada division... at least for me.. I've got too much work to do to watch some political speech.

2009-01-17 09:30:08 AM
Yeah, a third of the people are racists!

/ducks.

2009-01-17 09:30:42 AM
I wonder what the commercials will be? I mean, will there be Superbowl type epic ones or will it be more like the usual "The Price Is Right" daytime television type ones? You know that any ads from 10am to about 1pm are gonna cost a mint.

2009-01-17 09:30:57 AM
Silly Subby, Republicans don't know how to use heavy machinery.

2009-01-17 09:31:06 AM
I've never watched one before. I have no plan to start now just because it's Teleprompter Jesus.

I agree that using the bible is silly, but I think most people are watching this for the historical importance, not just for the pomp of the ceremony.

Most, perhaps. but some are watching in the hopes they'll see a death live on TV.

I'll be watching just to make sure that SOB Bush is out of office. Bush has done to this country what the Nazis during WWII only wish they could have done to us.

2009-01-17 09:33:46 AM
Indeed. I didn't see it listed as a paid holiday on my work calendar. I'll be working. Someone has to help pay for the people who lost their jobs during Bush's reign of error.

I'm not going to use up a ditch day when I can just watch it on Youtube later.

I hadn't thought of that aspect. That's a bit disturbing. If that happens, will all of the networks be fined by the FCC for indecency?

Yeah. He does it for the same reason that scientists and other professional people do it - because it would risk a huge backlash from people who believe in fairy tales. No one can tell if they really mean it, anyway.

I just don't like it because a book doesn't make people honest, and it is a political gesture.

No, violence is OK.

Yes, it would be pretty sweet to see Bush keel over just as Obama is sworn in.

Is Darth going to be there? The sight of him clutching his chest as the feeble remains of what I assume is a human heart finally explodes would also give me a bit of a chub.

Why did I know that someone was going to bring up the Bible thing? Why?

Because this is Fark, isn't it?

So, let's get this out of our system, blah, blah, blah, separation of church and state, blah, blah, blah, what? he's not doing it on a Koran? Hah, hah, hah, blah, blah, blah, we are a Christian nation, blah, blah, blah, I don't need to swear to an invisible sky friend in order to keep my oath, blah, blah, blah, summon Bevets, blah, blah, blah, the Bible swearing is just ceremony, blah, blah, blah, I am offended, blah, blah, blah, no, I am offended, blah, blah, blah, you are an idiot for believing in fairy tales, blah, blah, blah, you are going to hell, blah, blah, blah, hell doesn't exist, moron, blah, blah, blah, you'll see, blah, blah, blah.

And finally cue up a couple of anti/pro-religion motivational posters.

Am I missing anything?

/wishes for one thread to be free of the lame religion/anti-religion bickering.

All hail The Messiah as he walks across the Tidal Basin, approaches the steps of the Capitol and is anointed with oil. He has come from far away lands to save us from the sins of his predecessor. Happiness and glee shall reign once The Messiah is anointed as our savior. The Messiah has promised:

- To raise the top income tax rate
- To raise the corporate tax rate
- To raise the dividend tax rate
- To raise the capital gains tax rate
- To create a new tax on businesses that outsource jobs overseas
- To seize a portion of the oil industry's profits to fund an "energy rebate"
- To seize a portion of the pharmaceutical company's profits to lower drug prices.
- To set up a government agency that will determine what constitutes "reasonable" profits and then seize any that are above this arbitrarily determined level.
- To "spread the wealth around"
- To eliminate the secret ballot and allow union organizers to bring intimidation and threats to bear directly on anyone who dares to oppose a union.
- To raise the minimum wage by 50%
- To impose "cap and trade" limits on CO2 emissions that will, in his words, "cause electricity rates to soar" and "bankrupt anyone who builds a coal-fired power plant".
- To force all businesses to pay 100% of their employee's health care costs
- To complete the nationalization of the health care industry
- To impose protectionist trade restrictions by "renegotiating" existing free trade agreements.
- To commit America to funding U.N. anti-poverty programs, so that American taxpayers are not only bled to fund our home-grown bums and deadbeats, but the who world's as well.
- To raise a "civilian defense force" which, in his words is just as strong and well-funded as our military.

I think this country lacks in the pomp and ceremony department, so I am really looking forward to this inauguration, as I have for years.

Oh why won't people watch this historic even, wow I mean wow, the FACE of the nation changes, OMFG it happens only every 4-8 years. Truly historic. It's not like the SAME FARKING CORRUPT EVIL BASTARDS ARE ACTUALLY RUNNING THINGS, NOOOOOO IT'S THE PRESIDENT....YES, ONE MAN SAYS IT ALL, LIKE BACK WHEN WE LIVED IN HUTS AND USED ROCKS AS TOOLS.

2009-01-17 09:54:29 AM
This happens to fall on my day off, but theres nothing much to see anyway. I'll just catch the edited highlights on the nightly news. I'll likely be asleeep while all this is going down.

Now, if some network were covering the 'Bush tarred and feathered and run out of town by an angry mod' story. I'd set my alarm.

2009-01-17 09:54:46 AM
In four years 1/3 of the population will be doing all the private sector work and paying the government bills. 1/3 will work in some facet of government and 1/3 won't work. Every third will be worse off because of it. At least the 1/3 working on inauguration day will be getting a head start.
