Pat Morita already nailed the drunk scene.

Jackie Chan isn't old enough for the role. Sonny Chiba on the other hand is about the right age.

Ben Stiller, for farks sake? How about no.

People better than Ben Stiller for the part of John Kreese:

1. Patrick Swayze
2. Kurt Russell
3. Bruce Campbell

Why, why, WHY??? Why are they remaking bad movies? Next thing you know, they'll be remaking Footloose and Flashdance!

/I know they are.

The only movie Patrick Swayze's going to be doing anymore is "Ghost II: This Time It's For Real".

Are they going to change it to Kung Fu Kid?

So Ben Stiller is going to be playing the same guy as in Dodgeball and Heavy Weights?

He's not even Japanese.

They need somebody older i.e. mid 40's who is just a badass, or at least can play one.

Ben Stiller is not a badass.

Jesus, even The Rock would be a better casting decision.

I believe the Stiller line was a joke, but it's nice to see people take it seriously.

Yeah, I now actually read the damn article. The messed up thing is that with crazy casting decisions I wouldn't be surprised if they did choose Stiller or Jack Black.

I'm just hoping they redo Silent Night, Deadly Night

But because Karate Kid was made back in the 80's a 52 year old could pass convincingly as a WWII vet whose wife died in an American concentration camp.

Val Kilmer'd need to get back in shape, but he's always been way up on my 'ass-in-authority-position' category.

And I always thought it'd be a fun sequel if it was Big Trouble in China. I could soooo see the scene of 'Should have made that left turn in Albuquerque'.

Well, regardless if people liked it or not, these "remakes" are not remakes, but a non-serious poke at the originals. If only to retell the story with today's box-office actors.

But at least, it does get the younger generation to be interested in seeing the originals.

Take "Pink Panther" for example.... Steve Martin wasn't that bad in the character, (but then, how can one compare to the original's footsteps) and when I got the Pink Panther collection on DVD, the kids loved it.

I got a Jerry Lewis collection a few weeks ago and the kids are loving it.

Between movies and music, my teenage kids are finding that the old stuff is a lot better than the newer crap.

Jeez, Pat Morita must've done some hard living.

He was a bit of an alcoholic and died from complications due to his alcoholism.

He was originally rejected for the part because of his fame from Happy Days, but he grew a beard and used his uncle's accent for a screentest. The produce didn't even know it was the same guy auditioning.

He's probably illiterate under that standard, too: He's from Hong Kong, where Cantonese dominates.

/Once heard a Mandarin speaker call a Cantonese speaker 'dirty ghost' because of the way they spoke.

oh for the love of all that's holy about my 80's nostalgia, please if the movie gods can hear me, strike this abomination down before it consumes the world and all of humanity in a steaming volcanic pyroclastic flow of epic FAIL and our ancestors find us a 1000 years from now encased in suckage with tortured expressions like the poor souls in pompeii!!!

They already DID the movie: Forbidden Kingdom (new window). Chan is in old-man makeup and has a magic staff, dorky kid in store gets staff after a shooting where the old man gets shot, transported to the eponymous land to learn kung-fu. Comes back, kicks butt with all the kung fu he downloaded, helps old man on to ambulance.

It's basically Miyagi without all the Miyagi.

nicoffeine: He's not even Japanese.

You know he's an actor right? They act the part of something they aren't. Sean Connery play an Englishmen in then James Bond files . Mel Gibson played a Scot in Braveheart...
