"It has a lot of air in it," Rosate said, of the ice. "Even though it's thick, it's relatively weak."

Was he talking about the ice or his head?

Deceptively weak?

I live in a desert and before that I lived in a semi-desert.

Why do they want to clear snow off of an ice-covered pond? Is it just so people can ice skate or ice fish?

"Rosate said the truck was clearing snow off the park's pond when it went through the ice." Just like it did the same time last year.

The Parks Dept will be going for the sunken plow trifecta in January 2010.

This.

I dont' get it. Of course, I don't get why anyone would want to live in Upstate New York in the winter, either . . . .

Note to Parks Dept.: Before driving truck onto ice, check if ice is thick enough to support truck. If not, do not drive truck onto ice.

"crews had tried using a smaller machine to clear ice but "it just wasn't getting the job done."

Not sure, but that truck seems to present a few shortcomings as well.

How is this even really a fail?

1. They were purposely clearing snow from the pond. Such an action requires a vehicle with a plow.

2. One would assume that driving on a pond carries a certain risk of this sort of thing happening. I'm sure the dude driving the truck is aware of this as well.

"FAIL" is getting to be sorely over-used.

Ever think the people that live there might want to ice skate? You think frozen ponds just magically repel snow?

Sorry, that just needed saying/typing.

Why the hell do they need to clear the snow off the pond anyway? It's not a damn parking lot.

Kids, volunteers, brooms, shovels, and some fresh air and exersize.
If people want to get out and get fresh air and exercize, then the people can damned sure clear the damned pond themselves, and stop wasting their resources on a farking non-inflatable truck.

Farking New Yorkers.
Dumber than Massholes - sometimes.

Ever think that people have less chance of falling into a pond if they got an ice rink? You think an indoor ice rink gathers any snow?

Yeah. I bet that American carrying the weight of the entire whining world on his shoulders really serves to test the stability of the ice.

Ever think that water damage to a truck now and then is cheaper than the building and upkeep of an in-door ice skating rink? Not to mention probably larger?

Franco: Oh Schenectady you are the spiritual home of failure.

It's not just spritual.

It's like Detroit, or East St Louis, but without that air of affluence, and opporatunity.

With an economic outlook that rivals The Black Hole Of Calcutta, 62% of all Schenectadians are on some form of public assistance.

The former police chief is in prison for providing most of the crack and heroin to the area for quite some time.

But hey, outspoken Bush defender Mickey Rourke is from there, so you know at least they're good at electing people with their best interests in mind.

Schenectady would be just like Hill Valley, if Biff Tannen won.
Full most of the businesses are closed, yet the city keeps financing the construction of yet more empty space.

Sutpen's Hundred: SCHENECTADY

That reminds me, I was listening to the radio and 4 film critics were dicussing this and none of them seemed to have a clue about the pronunciation of the title which is supposed to be word play on Schenectady, I have no recollection of what they thought of it, the repeated butchered pronunciation was so distracting:

Nice. That's on my commute everyday.

At least GE knows how to farking plow. This shiat is like Troy around here. It's embarassing when you make Albany seem like a clean, efficient, well run city.

Schenectady is the first city I've worked in that has made me seriously consider purchasing a car.

Yupper, that's a roger. They used to offer that pond/lake as a place to swim, and I've heard more than a few stories about that particular species.
Central Park Lake is it's native habitat.
