Maths isn't a contraction (though, amusingly, isn't is)^*. Maths is just a shortening of mathematics.

Ft is an abbreviation for both feet and foot, so 17feet works :-)

^*By amusing, I mean not really, but it's late and I'm tired.

Well, to be fair, porcupines, skunks, bears, bobcats, moose, hornets and pissed off raccoons that survive in colder climes are no picnic either.

Loch Ness is very deep, and of constant temperature, it has never frozen over. No mention of Loch Ness in article. What a wretched headline and boring article.

Oh but isn't it always the Canadians who keep boasting about how tough they are in the cold? About how they drink liquid nitrogen and piss antifreeze and poop icebergs? Even though most of them live near the border and enjoy the same climate as an equivalent number of Americans?
