Every time I hear of Poe, I think of the Simpsons Holloween special with the Poe theme.

I know one thing: they must be using the term "cousin" rather loosely.

2003-01-18 03:34:59 PM
That is one of the coolest things ever, in a world where everything else has been picked to shreds...which of course means that it'll be a Fox reality show by his next birthday.

Do not disturb the sexy.

That gives me an idea....

*finds out where J.R.R. Tolkien is buried using Google*

this is one very cool tradition. i hope that the asshats of the world can manage to keep themselves from ruining it.

2003-01-18 03:49:50 PM

"Cheers!"

2003-01-18 03:51:04 PM
Sriously, I might start doing that (in about 9 years). I could dress like an elf and glow somehow.

Mysterious figure garbed in black who disappears without a trace? Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men...

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping something& louder than before.
Surely, said I,surely that is something at my window lattice;
Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore---

2003-01-18 04:13:44 PM
Lovecraft would love it

2003-01-18 04:22:36 PM
I'm amazed that in over 50 years, not one moron has 1) tried to jump the guy, rip the cloak off, and snap a picture or 2) dress up in a cloak and try to imitate the guy by putting his own gift at the grave.

2003-01-18 04:34:59 PM
That is just cool as hell. It's always refreshing to hear about something so poetic and mysterious happening in real life.

And all with pearl and ruby glowing
Was the fair palace door,
Through which came flowing, flowing, flowing,
And sparkling ever more,
A troop of Echoes, whose sweet duty
Was but to sing,
In voices of surpassing beauty,
The wit and wisdom of their king.

I heed not that my earthly lot
Hath little of earth in it -
That years of love have been forgot
In the hatred of a minute:-
I mourn not that the desolate
Are happier, sweet, than I,
But that you sorrow for my fate
Who am a passer by.

From a coupla years ago when the Raven's were actually a decent team:

Poe vister leaves note for Raven's fans

2003-01-18 05:32:34 PM
Just incase any one is wondering: No, it isn't me. Wish it was though, that is pretty cool...

2003-01-18 05:45:31 PM
An interesting and beautiful story. Thank you.

2003-01-18 05:55:20 PM
Well if they did spoil it, there wouldn't be much of a story. And I am pretty sure there would be quite a few pissed of Baltimorons if it was spoiled. Poe is our biggest claim to fame besides Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, and David Hasselhoff....

2003-01-18 07:04:21 PM
Nevermore...
Nevermore...

Nice one spider.
A lovely tribute to one of the only people who wrote poetry that wasn't shiate.

I used this as a marquee screen saver once.

"and darkness and decay and the red death held illimitable dominion over all."

co-workers thought I was nuts

I've changed my mind. I think it's Roger Corman.

"Unlike other traditions, there are no reporters, photographers or TV crews,"

But one annoying paper writer.

2003-01-18 08:24:44 PM
Bullshat. TV has already been there several years ago. They caught him from behind walking down the street. Didn't show his face. And there is more conjecture that Poe had syphilus when he bought the farm.

They also don't tell you the farker takes a nasty piss on Poe's grave after he drinks all that friggin' Cognac.

Oh, he doesn't? My bad...

"Kent Brockman, at the now-closed Duff bottling plant, where a mysterious person in black keeps a solitary vigil."

Wow... nice one.

Reminds me of the urban legend about the biker gang that killed a guy that was super-ultra tough and every year visited his grave to make sure he was still in it.
