(Detroit Free Press)   It makes you wonder why anyone is surprised the Lions are about to go 0-16 when William Clay Ford has proven without a doubt he is completely unable to run any kind of a business   (freep.com) divider line 35

Sad that someone could be the cause of so much misery and not give a damn. I guess most people really don't care how they make money.

Ford should be the next Bond villain.

Even if you live in or near Detroit, you should be rooting for the Packers today.

Apparently, this article is so full of fail I can't even get it to open in my browser.

Ah, there it goes.

As a Michigander, I'd like to see a GM who will trade down the first pick and get more picks instead of splurging on another Heisman quarterback who will most likely fail.

As someone forced to watch the Lions, I can say that having an experienced quarterback (Culpepper) in there made them much better.

Or perhaps you are full of fail, considering it's an article in the Detroit Free Press.

If the Pack goes and scores another 34, the Lions will have set the record for "most points scored against in a single season" by 1 point.

Must be 'Pile On William Clay Ford in Fark Day'.

Not that I care one way or another.

Wait, I do have the Lions in the office pool. Nevermind.

I'm not even sure what that is supposed to mean. Isn't the Detroit Free Press itself failing?

YAYYYYY! 0 AND 16.

Jesus, I'm proud to live in Michigan right now.

Maybe someone will get off their ass and do something about this terrible organization.

A 16-0 team last year and an 0-16 team this year. What parity?

I have waited a long time for this.

Poor, poor Lions.

I said this in another thread but it can be repeated here:

In the 1960s and 70s, the Giants owners (Mara family) were having major problems, both personally and on the field. The Giants were almost as bad as the Lions are now. Finally the commissioner basically forced them to hire someone, George Young, to run operations. Young spent the next several years drafting Phil Simms, Lawrence Taylor, Joe Morris, and Carl Banks, and hiring Bill Parcells as HC. Within 5 seasons the Giants were respectable, wining the Superbowl by his 8th year.

/if the Dolphins are sold, Parcells can opt out of his current contract,

The Lions are one of some teams that might be better off in cities with a bit more "energy"

Energy - population, money, passion, interest, etc.

Other potentials: Browns, Raiders, Rams, Bengals, Chiefs, Bucs...

Let some other new locations put some drive into them.
Spread the "wealth" so to speak.

I never, EVAR thought I'd say this on FARK:

William Clay Ford trifecta in play?

/Trade ya for one Ralph Wilson
//Will throw in Jauron, too

Rich Cotite is envious.

It's not over yet!! They have to lose, what? 8 or 9 more consecutive games next season and finally surpass the '76-'77 Buccaneers for worst NFL losing streak?

Those Bucs were an expansion team before pro sports leagues were nice to expansion teams. Thus, the Lions are already the worst ever team in my mind. Now it's time to make it official.

/Lions fan since moving to Michigan 13 years ago
//It's who's on TV...
///Just got home from an 0-16 party, actually!

In the 1960s and 1970s, the Detroit Lions were sucking too. One of those teams has won 3 super bowls and lost another in the meantime.

bacccc: Gee ............. remind you of anyone?

Many parallels here! Both W and WCF rode the coattails of their successful families. Both had the worst 8 year stretch in their respective categories' history. ...

W has retarded followers, though. Lions fans deserve better.

I still get a feeling of disbelief thinking of Barry Sanders' retirement, and that was how many years ago?

Ow My Balls: .. Lions fans deserve better.

Most do not. Especially after WCF annouced that he was bringing much of the "brain trust" back next year. This team has sucked for decades and the fans still go to games and buy merchandise.

Prediction: If the Lions go .500 or better in the preseason, they will sell out the home opener.

Actually that ford never ran the company, the most responsibility he ever had was over the finance division which just means he decided how to pay for crappy decisions.

Then again he did hire the worst GM in the world, then refused to fire him when it was obvious to every one he was farking terrible.

2008-12-29 01:03:22 AM
He kept Millen for what...8 years? That killed the franchise.

2008-12-29 02:21:55 AM
You think just anybody can pull off 0-16? This took hard work and a lot of years to get just right.

You can't burn as many top-10 draft choices as they did, year after year, and get NOTHING from them.

And Kevin Smith, the running back, is the first good and consistent starter they've gotten from day two of the draft in 8 years of Millen.

Take somebody as bad as Millen, refuse to fire him when he proves he's incompetent in all phases, fast forward eight years, and this is what you get.

Never let your pro franchise be bought by a trust fund baby who didn't work for his millions.
