Mango comic book? Mmmmm...

The manga edition of his masterpiece, "Das Kapital," hit Japanese bookstores this month and sold about 6,000 copies in its first few days, said Yusuke Maruo of EastPress Co.

Big deal, they sell ten times as many copies of your run-of-the-mill tentacle porn manga in the same timeframe. Now, if there were a "Das Kapital" hentai, things might be different.

I don't like mangoes. Do they have a spam edition?

UNC_Samurai: /Did I just invoke Rule 34?

Dunno if I want to do a Google search of "Das Kapital Hentai", but its pretty well established that the Japanese manga industry is pretty close to the dead-tree realization of Rule 34 - ie, if it exists, there's likely a manga adaptation.

So Karl Marx is going to be some angsty teenager with his faithful robot companion Engels, and they're going to fight capitalism after going through a long journey where they fight Adam Smith summoned demons in a post apocalyptic wasteland culminating at the Tower of the Free Market?

See, up until that point you could've been speaking from distant exposure. The last part gives you away as an anime nerd.

I thought about that as I was typing, but I felt that my post would be incomplete without it.

That list of "10 Most Harmful Books" is bogus.
It doesn't even include "America Deceived" by E. A. Blayre III.
Just goed to show you; THAT's how scared "they" are...

So, somebody in the gun-buyback thread aired the idea of a Bible buyback program. Turn in a Bible for proper disposal, get a $5 gift card to Barnes & Noble or Starbucks or something. How could we set something like that up? Would it get a reasonable amount of media attention if conducted on an online, mail-in basis? Or would we have to actually set up card tables at the mall?

I don't think there's anything they won't make a comic about in Japan.

Nobody ever gives Friedrich Engels any love.

Anyway, why would Das Kapital be on any "10 most harmful" books list? It's not like it's new or particularly revelatory any more.

I can think of 10 things I've seen with my own eyes from Japan that are wayyyy more potentially harmful to today's society.

Marx's writing read like a comic book anyway, I don't see the problem.

All manga should be on the "Too Stupid To Read" list. The majority of it is either yaoi or yuri for teenage girls, and the remainder is simply inane "badass" crap for the same guys who would have been impressed by hair metal in the 80s.

A fad is a fad, and this fad needs to die, already.

From what I learn from anime, Tokyo Tower has to be rebuilt weekly. They save costs by using balsa wood.

Fad? Um, you might want to use another word, considering that manga began roughly the same time as the United States. Here's a handy Link so you don't have to take my word for this.

And here the Japanese are always touted as being super intelligent people but now we learn at least some of them are interested in Communism.

Oh well, if they want to solve their overpopulation problem there's no better way to do it than with Communism.
