I love pits. Pits that I raise. I don't trust dogs that belong to somebody else and I would never (most likely never) adopt an adult dog that I haven't known since its infancy or am very very familiar with.

Man ... that's the pits.

"It appears that the dog chased the intruder out of the house before anything was stolen from the New City home."

I'm thinking instead that the intruder stole the dog, perhaps someone related to the dogfighting ring she was rescued from.

Maybe. But despite the headline this dog was a mixed breed. Don't dog fighters go for the pure breeds?

Stolen sounds more plausible than the dog hiding in the woods.

Police activated a reverse 911 call in the area of Rainbow Court and have deployed extra patrols to look for Kola, Clarkstown Detective Frank Romano said.

OK, can anyone guess what a reverse 911 call is? Are the cops calling people?

Yeah, I'm thinking the dog may be many things, but hiding in the woods isn't one of them.

Hope so, though, and that he gets found and returned.

Pitbulls with minimal socialization(not chained up outside 24/7)are wonderful dogs, but a chihuahua cant take your arm off.

Don't have to guess, that's exactly what it is. Normally used to inform people in emergency situations.

Beautiful dog, but be prepared for the pit-hating trolls.
I'd trust a well raised pit bull with a baby before most breeds. Dog's 101 on Animal Planet called the pit bull the "nanny breed" due to their extremely tolerant nature of poking and prodding children.
Can't wait to rescue one, but I need a house that I own, don't rent, first.

RIP Doggie.

Odds are if it chased them out, IF they were not stealing it, it was killed. If a dog like that wants you it will either get you or you get it. Since there is no guy screaming in pain from the woods, the dog is dead.

Going from that logic, they most likely would've killed it pretty close to the house right (I have a hard time seeing a dog with a cast on its leg running very far).
So why would the would-be robbers take a dead dog with them?

119?

Or maybe 911 just goes to voicemail now, and they call you back later.

I know this is Fark, but try to read an article every once in a while. the dog was found and has been returned.
ERO tag for dog and owners, takes someone special to raise a dog taken from dog fighters.

Yeah! I think it's pretty obvious the pit bull masterminded the break-in, and only chased off the "intruder" after an argument started about how the swag would be split up. As soon as the dog finds a more reliable partner, you can bet the house will be "broken into" again.

You pit bull owners are so gullible.

Taking pictures out of context is a sure fire way to not make a point. You offer no back story to any of those, I award you no points and may a poodle bite you in the crotch.

Animal mauls can be conducted by any dog. Can you explain why the American Kennel Club consistently rates pit bull terriers as one of the most family-friendly pets if it is their breed, and not their upbringing, that makes them excessively violent?

2008-12-18 06:38:33 AM
Deadhouseplants, now that I think about it, I really realize it's cancerous lesions on the face of the planet like you that caused the mauling of those kids.

That's right, YOU are responsible for the mauling of those kids. Every time an ignorant, uninformed retard like you opens their mouth and repeats nonsense, some Michael Vick wannabe decides that pit bulls really are excellent, badass killers and raises them just that way. The consequences, unsurprisingly, are what you posted. What you are inadvertently responsible for.

It probably never occurred to you that by compounding the stereotype serviceable, family-friendly, duty-oriented animals are having their lives destroyed and in turn destroying lives. That's because you're the epitome of all that is filth.

I don't care what all the fearmongers say...a pit bull, when raised right (like any dog), is an awesome dog.

Supposedly they're a little better because like all dogs that have a lot of gameness, they're tolerant of more pain. That means kids that like the tactile feel of dogs (pretty much all of them) that might inadvertently hurt them aren't necessarily going to illicit self-defence behaviour from the dog.

And that's another thing. Some dog maulings are justified -- the dog is frightened and protecting itself. People so often criticize dogs for not being leashed, but it's a two way street. Restrain your kids and make sure a dog is approachable before letting them pet it. So often kids ask their permission to pet my dog and neither the child nor the parent thinks to ask me. The answer is almost always yes because she's gentle and playful, but if she's sick or hurt I won't let anybody touch her because it might illicit too much fear from her, and even the gentlest creature might snap if it feels threatened.

Did anyone else fail to notice that the dog was found tied to a "poll"?

2008-12-18 08:13:48 AM
I used to think it was the breed but Cesar has shown me it is the owners. I still think it is a powerful dog which in turn takes a powerful owner to raise it properly.

That being said, I still think many pits are dangerous as I don't believe that most people know how to properly train their pets.

2008-12-18 08:17:18 AM
Ahh.. I have two pit bulls that I've raised since puppies (they're about 5 1/2 years old now) and I'm not exactly sure what they'd do if someone tried to break into my house. My boy dog is 90 lbs, yet hes afraid of his own shadow, while the girl who is only 60 lbs isn't afraid of much, but often follows the boy dog's lead in running with his tail between his legs.

Then again I usually don't worry about it, who in their right farking mind would try and enter a house with two pit bull snouts at the window growling?

Whoever entered that house probably knew that dog, then again, fairytales aren't IMPOSSIBLE, are they?
