Those kooky Brits! Awesome

well, if you can move the tree at about half the speed of light, relativistic length contraction via the Lorentz formula would shrink the tree enough to fit inside the house.

/just sayin

I was told there would be no physics

The most difficult thing about really tall Christmas trees is getting them through the damned door without breaking any branches - especially if you get a silvertip, instead of something more flexible.

We did the whole 19" tree thing a few times in our 20" ceilinged house. Nice to look at, but ...

Me, I'm lazy. I would have just slid it in at an angle and decorated it like that.

My wife, expectedly, would have a fit.

I call this one the tree that rises taller than the house but inside the house.

It's the Nanny State at work!

Wait, it isn't?

We are still talking about a christmas tree... right?

Man, that was disappointing. "The Sun is there" initially made it sound like some sort of arborist's miracle.

lotta sap.

Just hack the the top part off, and you've got a perfectly good mini-tree. You can sell it to charity...that's what Christmas is all about.

Sorry, someone had to say it. Carry on.

"If you raise the ceiling four feet, move the fireplace from that wall
to that wall, you'll still only get the full stereophonic effect if you
sit in the bottom of that cupboard."

/Not really relevant, but it's what the article reminded me of

Nope, looks stupid from this angle as well.

Clark Griswald is not impressed.

I know it got him some media attention, but seriously? you're gonna publicly announce to the world that you paid that much money and put days of work into something that looks like total crap?! Who strung on the lights? Tinkerbell after girls night at the bar? Idiots.

Brings home a three story tall christmas tree? Designs and builds skate parks for a living?

On the face of it this guy sounds like one very cool dad.

Agree, top notch dad. The guy's got a good sense of fun and £250 is not that much compared to how much some people spend on tacky lights and inflatable santa's, etc.

Followup: Family residence infested with rare giant fir spiders after hauling 35 foot tree into house.

2008-12-16 05:03:46 AM
I got a 65' tree up and decorated in my house. But then again, the ceiling is 70', so it wasn't that big of a deal.

2008-12-16 05:06:03 AM
"Dad, that tree wouldn't fit in our yard!"
"It's not going in our yard, son. It's going in our front room."

came for pics of the Griswold tree. Leave disappointed...

My first thought before I read the artical was that they got out the chain saw and cut a hole in the roof...lol. After reading it, its a pretty cool idea and it does look like one whole tree. A lot of work for a couple weeks of enjoyment I'd say, but to each his own.

It's cool I guess, but you know. . . it would be a lot cooler if the tree didn't die for something so ridiculous.

"Skate Dad" seems rad in theory.

2008-12-16 06:32:06 AM
Where you gonna put a tree that big?

Bend over and I'll show you!

2008-12-16 06:46:05 AM
It just seems really..... ugly.

Unless they have Christmas morning on the roof. The decorating effort is questionable.

I hate those inflatable santa things. Course the house down the street that looks like the wal-mart inflatable display section threw up all over the yard before passing out in its own vomit doesn't help much.

2008-12-16 07:25:56 AM
Bah, they took the suckers way out. I wanted to see holes and loss of structural integrity.

2008-12-16 07:39:24 AM
poor tree.

And people say times are tough.

Laugh at our £1000 Christmas tree!

2008-12-16 08:06:14 AM
I can't help but wonder about the wisdom of this. Cutting the tree in pieces only ensures that it'll lose needles fast than Palin can make a stupid comment.

I hope Dad got everyone brooms this year, cause that's gonna be hell.

Still sort of whacky-funnish... I guess... whatever

2008-12-16 08:14:32 AM
Nice tree... lots of sap...

"Greig, who runs a company that designs and builds skate parks, bought the hulking tree from a private yard in the New Forest."

Coolest dad ever.

Came for the Christmas Vacation references, was not disappointed.
