He's lucky he wasn't addressing the UN... Angelina Jolie would have bent that farker around the podium and cleaned his clock.

I agree. I saw the video and he ducked pretty well for an older guy. Duckin' appears to be his strong suit. Thinkin', not so much.

I'll wait and see if Bush asks for the reporter to be released. Talking as a civilized, measured human being isn't anything new for this administration, but following through with civilized action instead of a bait in switch into various levels of depravity and incompetence would be.

I'm a whiney lib, but was extremely amused by the hidden prowess of the prez. I just wish he had run for the presidency of the national dodge ball league.

No kidding, I'm a Canadian and I had 3 collegues gathered around the computer this morning watching it on you tube. To a person we all hate Dubya and again, unanimously, we were all really impressed with the dodge.

Friction8r: It is doubly satisfying that GW not only deprived moronic muslims of their perceived glory by skillfully dodging the shoe, but he also deprived insolent, whiney American libs of the same perceived glory. Satisfaction? - Not yours.

Also, this reporter should spend about 20 years rotting in prison for his actions. The shoe could have been a more lethal weapon, and doing anything to compromise the safety of a U.S President should be rewarded with years of languishing in a PMITA prison. Suck it muslims, and suck it libs. GW pwn3d you yet again.

Cat Food Sandwiches: I asked this on the other shoe thread also, but does anyone know what the punishment would be if this had happened at a press conference in DC? I would think attacking the president would result in a pretty harsh punishment, but who knows?

I'm sure there would be, but in either case Bush would deserve it, so the point is moot. America could use a little shoe-chucking brigade action. I wonder if those paranoid clowns in the White House would consider it an act of terrorism?

2008-12-15 04:36:39 PM
Now, if the guy had chucked a pretzel at the prez, well, that would have been much more serious.

I'll give up my pretzel stix when they pry them from my cold, dead hands.

so when is someone going to yell at the secret service??? the guy in the audience had time to throw something, bend down, take off his other shoe, and throw it too. why didn't someone tackle him long before the second shoe?

I don't know if this has been brought up but I wonder what would have happened if they tried throwing a shoe at Saddam back in the day. So the Iraqi people have at least that going for them which is nice.

Just_a_Bear: so when is someone going to yell at the secret service??? the guy in the audience had time to throw something, bend down, take off his other shoe, and throw it too. why didn't someone tackle him long before the second shoe?

also in chile, bush actually went OUT to the crowd to help rescue his secret service agent who couldn't get in the door due to the crowd of people.

WTF?

/i don't care if it was bush, obama, clinton, or even jimmy carter that had shoes thrown at him. that is a personal attack on the president of the united states. i can't believe that americans are cheering the reporter on or being so nonchalant about it.
/i wonder if the white house previously waived off secret service for that press conference - even so wow what a pitiful reaction time.

No. They've pretty much always hated us around the world. We're big, powerful, successful and we've *never* played by anyone else's rules - if we had we'd still be under British rule. But pretty much any president ever has had huge protests against them whenever they travelled to foreign lands, as people around teh world just loooooove to hate on the cool kid. Kinda like we do here on Fark, really...

JFK, Reagan, Clinton... pretty much every one of our presidents has received a fairly hostile welcome from the people of the places they travelled - assuming it's been to a place where free expression is allowed, of course...

I have a vague recollection of Bush visiting Europe pre-9/11 and being heckled and called a Devil. Granted, they may have been vindicated in the end, but there was simply no basis for their shenanigans at the time.

Right. We've never had allies at any point in the past, ever. Especially not any "big" allies with real military strength. History is fun.

We're not the cool kid. We're the loud drunken disaster who gropes your cousin then passes out in a trashcan full of punch after shiatting our pants. We had the world behind us after 9/11, ready to help in any way possible. And Bush.....well.....he sneezed on the coke plate.

you are correct. george isn't the brightest president we've ever had. but....ronald reagan started the Deregulation ball rolling in the 80's. this allowed the banking industry more leeway and fewer regs to follow, thus giving them the oppurtunity to raid the middle/working class. this conservative view "get government off the backs of business" allowed these criminal wallstreeters, et al. to do as they pleased, because no one was watching them. that's what happens when you're dumb enough to trust a criminal crony capitalist banker with your money/home mortgage. this is why Regulations are important, because you can never trust a banker, or a care salesman either, to do the 'right thing'. they will steal you blind if you give them half a chance.
have a nice day!

I getting sick of all these, "I don't like him, but I respect how he's handling this." posts!! Now that someone else is headed for the white house, all you wannabe punk-rockers will get behind Bush on the smallest, least controversial of issues. AARRGH!! Is the Obama high already gone!?! You better not start hatin' on BO until he's flubbed his speeches a time or two. GAH, everyone just has to be a rebel.

Typical socialist idiot who has either forgotten or who disregards Historical FACT!! It is a Historical FACT that GW also has thrown out a great first pitch at baseball games, including one at Yankee Stadium after 9/11. He throws a great first pitch, AND he is quite adept at artfully dodging shoes, but you revisionist history dolts conveniently leave this out of your posts, just like you ignore the fact that socialist countries are typically the poorest countries in the world.

Some Texan: You know what? It makes me proud that we've brought them the civil rights that we all enjoy and that's why the offender hasn't been hanged already. If you disagree, go to a news conference with any major politician...hell, your city's mayor, even...and toss a shoe at them. That's attempted assault and you, too, will be in jail. If that reporter had done so much as cursed at Saddam, there would be no story because the reporter would already be dead. Criticize Bush all you want (please), but we did bring Iraq some form of freedom of speech, like it or not.

THIS.

In China, this guy would have had a bullet in the back of his brain case, and a bill sent to the family for the cost of one bullet.

So, yeah, this is positive progress of a sort. Embarrassing, but of real symbolic importance.
