(Some Guy)   Bud Light bottles and cans are getting a new "all blue" look. The shift to blue came after extensive research showed the color helps drive home the message of refreshment, suburban sloth & mediocrity   (dailynews.com) divider line 50

When all is said and done, the can is at the recycling center, and the beer has worked it's way down the drain, it's still bud light. You can't make it good. It's like putting lipstick on a pig;)

It has an end? Kind of looks like the author just decided to stop writing when he got bored.

did they improve the give it any taste?

That particular shade is pretty close to a "Dasani" blue. Perhaps an "Aquafina Azure."

I'm thinking if your beer already tastes like water, perhaps making the bottle look like that's what's in it is not advisable.

As for what I'M drinking tonight...Read it and weep. One of the most renowned, celebrated, heavily-awarded and sought-after beers in the world. MORE than worth the hour round-trip pilgrimage across the river into Wisconsin to get it.

Seriously, if you like beer, you HAVE to try this stuff before you die. Most amazing thing I've ever put in my mouth, and that INCLUDES your mom.

I like the way the new can looks, not so much the new bottle. Too bad they don't have a frost brew liner, or change colors when they get cold, or have a wide mouth vent top for fast drinking. Too bad they sold out to a Eurotrash company and I have not bought any of their products for almost six months.

I was expecting a blue glass bottle from the headline. I was going to post some interesting facts, but since it...oh what the hell.

Color of bottle ~percent of skunk causing light blocked
Clear 0%
Blue 25%
Green 75%
Brown 95+%

Where in Wisconsin can this be found? I'm a huge fan of the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat and this looks good.

mikieb: Where in Wisconsin can this be found? I'm a huge fan of the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat and this looks good.

Nothing against Jim Koch, but this stuff leaves Sam Adams in the dust. Every single person I've turned on to the Belgian Red thanks me profusely...It's just so much better than anything else even close.

Your profile says you're in Minnesota. Are you in or near the Cities? If so, I typically go to Casanova's in Hudson, JUST over the river. Here's a map. (new window)

That's probably the closest one to me, but depending where you are, there may be one closer. Most decent-sized Badger-state boozeries will usually stock New Glarus products...Especially close to the state line, where demand is high because it can't be bought elsewhere. New Glarus limits their distribution to within the borders of Wisconsin in order to keep their batches small and quality high. And if that's what it takes to make beer as across-the-board good as theirs, fine. It's worth the drive.

ALL of their beers redefine "exceptional"...It's just that the Belgian Red is my favorite. They also make a Raspberry Tart version. Those are technically lambics, but they make a full range of other beer styles. Spotted Cow is great if you're into unfiltered ales, and the Uff-Da Bock is a pretty stellar fuller-bodied offering. There are also seasonals. They're awesome, but they also suck...Because they're invariably fantastic, but they're limited-production, and Dan the brewmaster doesn't like to repeat himself. So if you like them, drink as much as you can while its available and hoard the rest, because it probably ain't coming back. He did this Apple one awhile ago that was futher-mucking FANTASTIC...But I only managed to snag one sixer of longnecks before it was gone forever.

Y'know, I don't even work for those guys...But I still do everything I can to work the "word-of-mouth" angle, both because I like turning people on to great stuff. But also because I want them to do very, very well so they'll be around brewing my favorite beer in the universe forever and ever and ever.

Let me know if you make the trip...And if so, what you think of the brew. EIP.

2008-12-12 01:17:39 PM
Oh, also...It's not just me who loves this stuff. Check out the New Glarus Brewery Guest Book (new window). Any brewery that inspires that much effusive, spontaneous praise is probably better than it sounds.

If your going to make tasteless "drinkable" beer, follow coors example and make the packaging of your product more functional instead of wrapping the bottle in some extra garbage. While coors light is probably less tasty than bud light you get: A case that can hold ice, cans with bulit in koozies, vented wide mouth cans for easy chugging, sensor so you know when its cold.

What do you get with bud light? just a blue bottle.

Does "drinkability" mean you can put down 12 at a tailgate party and still make it to the game?

I'm no beer snob (I'm learning!), but going to the GABF last year was the best decision my wife and I ever made. Found out about so many great beers that I never knew before, most of which I can find pretty easily around here (Thanks Beers Of The World and Wegmans!).

This is why you only drink the freshest Corona.

After a beer or two and if you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, rock it back and forth while looking at the background for a trippy effect.

Put down the hash pipe son. Canadian macro beer blows chunks for the most part, even more so than American macro beer. ESPECIALLY LaBatt.
