2003-01-15 01:41:08 PM
"Is your skin color normal? Or is it TERRORIST!!!???"

2003-01-15 01:51:57 PM
"You mean it's gonna stay this color?!"

That would never happen in America, where We don't judge a man on the color of his skin.....until actually see it. Or if on the phone he says his name is Jahmal or Rahsheem or something, but that's another thread.

2003-01-15 04:43:17 PM
I second that motion.

What do you mean "we", yellow man?

2003-01-15 08:36:44 PM
that's not spiffy. I don't wish frivolous lawsuits on any other country.

but yea, we fought for the Florida tag and got it. Japan is worthy for sure.

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT

Indian like from India? or Indian like native tribesman of america? or Indian like from Indiana?

2003-01-15 08:37:06 PM
Didn't Nadia already educate the japanese about people of darker skin tone?

</otaku> (sorry) (but that stuff is supposed to have huge coverage after all)

2003-01-15 08:37:53 PM
Some people are just too thin-skinned.

2003-01-15 08:38:54 PM
Someone once asked me if my boobs were normal, can I sue?

2003-01-15 08:39:15 PM
Though this does remind me of a 50s poem about African immigrants trying to find accomodation in Britain.. very similar kinds of phonecalls. "Well, it's white as yours on my palms and the soles of my feet, the rest I regret is dark as night" -click- "dammit" </paraphrase>

Strange how japan can be so ahead yet so behind :-/

2003-01-15 08:39:29 PM
His skin color may have been normal, but its thickness seems to be extra thin. Wow. I cant wait until you cant speak because the ninnies have banned speech as being offensive to someone somehow who cant act like an old school adult.

2003-01-15 08:40:07 PM
I once got asked if I ever act normal. I licked their face and humped their leg. That's normal to me.

2003-01-15 08:40:16 PM
That's odd...

I always thought Japanese racism relied on the shape of the eyes.

2003-01-15 08:41:29 PM
it's all about the $$money$$ now....

2003-01-15 08:42:58 PM
He also sued the prefecture? Isnt that the local government? On the otherhand the 500,000 yen he was awarded is the grand sum of about $4231.01 USD. If hed gotten the 1.2 million yen hed originally tried to extort he would have had a grand total of $10,154.00 USD.

2003-01-15 08:43:25 PM
Farkinfreks,

yes.

are your boobs normal?

so sue me!

2003-01-15 08:43:34 PM
Shoulda just called him fugly.

2003-01-15 08:46:24 PM
hmmmm. I didn't think the i tag meant invisible ...

Only on Wednesdays, JennyBean.

I find it's better to respond to asinine comments about your appearance with a smart-ass remark. I'm 6'1", and I get asked how tall I am by guys (in a creepy, not inquisitive way) about 10 times a day. I just tell them I'm 5'6" and enjoy the thoughtful then embarassed look on their faces. Sometimes I just ask them how short they are. Either works.

Japanese and Korean's are one of the most rascist societies in the world.

I think in Japan, you can't become a citizen unless you are 100% japanese. A bunch of farking elitist motherfarkers.

2003-01-15 08:47:30 PM
distressed? man, i'd be rich by now.
now the racist japanese wont even let the indian farkers to get into their country because apparently they're leeching off.

2003-01-15 08:48:30 PM
Indian usually means from India. At least thats how I would take it to mean.

Reminds me of South Park and the episode about dodgeball.

"You'd think they could see the ball with those big ROUND EYES!!!"

Why couldn't he just say, "Yeah, it's normal for a Hindu... got a problem with that?", instead of spinning the great big lawsuit wheel? I think the problem here is the thickness of the guy's skin, not the color.

Candypants! 6'1"? Cool. I'm on the short side (5'4"). I always wanted to be tall.

2003-01-15 08:53:08 PM
Charlieplaid: Indian like from India? or Indian like native tribesman of america? or Indian like from Indiana?

Don't forget about my ancestors, the Carib Indians.

"Why couldn't he just say, "Yeah, it's normal for a Hindu... got a problem with that?", instead of spinning the great big lawsuit wheel? I think the problem here is the thickness of the guy's skin, not the color."

Uhh... because they were presumably planning on using it as a discriminant to decide whether or not to let him into the apartment. Duh.

Anybody who thinks it's being thin-skinned to be offended by this has never had to deal with it...

P.S. Suing seems to have more of a deterrant effect than an icy stare.

Lets attempt to clear this up

Indian -- from the subcontinent of India.

Native American -- someone from the North American content, formerly known as 'Indians.' Originally from Asia by way of the land bridge across the Bering Strait.

Indianan -- Hoosier. Originally from a little pink house in a small town.

Don't mean to threadjack here, but Farkinfreks, growing up I was always the tallest person, not even girl, until I hit about 11th grade and I hated it. My Aunt is tall to, and she kept telling me one day I would like it. I love it now; none of my friends want to be shorter, they all want to be taller. And the fact that it's mostly in my legs is great.

It's still a biatch and a half to buy pants; tall girls' shops charge about $70 for a pair of jeans. And I wear a shoe size 11, so that sucks too. But all in all, I'm pretty happy.

Thanks Generation_D, for a moment there I was so confused. Little pink house, eh? Is that a prerequesite to lliving in Indiana?

2003-01-15 09:00:04 PM
I just read the article. That's prety blatantly racist. Of course, so is this:
Maybe he wasn't asking to be rude. Maybe he just wanted to know if he needed an apartment with a taller door. "We only got two rooms left with over 5 foot clearance."

Please...don't hurt me. I'm new, and I'm not a racist.

Try buying a button up blouse with 36DD! They just don't make 'em, I tell ya. And when I do get one, it gapes at the buttons.

Ah. The U.S. is well on its way to world domination. The first step is to get competitor nations to adopt our treasure-hunting legal system.

2003-01-15 09:08:31 PM
Is it just me or is some of the comments in this thread trying to defend racism by comparing it to trully trivial and harmless questions?

You don't ask somebody if their skin was normal because your concerned that they might sunburn easily. It is clear that they didn't want anybody of darker skin to rent from them. If you feel that somebody shouldn't be compensated for being a victim of racism, then say that. Don't trivialize it by comparing it something stupid like a height question.

P.S.
I'm not Indian.

2003-01-15 09:09:05 PM
At first, I thought this was going to be something along the lines of never having seen an Indian before, and just asking an insensitive question. But then I read it and remembered that Japan is one of the most racist nations on earth, denying even their common genetic heritage with Koreans.

2003-01-15 09:09:25 PM
This is impossible. Only white people can be racist.

Phil Donahue told me so.

2003-01-15 09:17:13 PM
Am I still a racist if I hate everybody?

Anyone who thinks this guy is being thin-skinned should re-read the article:

the employee who received the call asked him: "What is your skin colour? Is it the normal colour?"

When Murthy asked what colour was normal, she said "like Japanese", prompting the infuriated Indian to hang up.

Saitama court officials confirmed the amount of the award, but declined to give other details of the ruling.

The employee outright says that anything non-japanese looking is not normal. Now, if you saw someone with dark skin and thought it might be a tan, you might say, "Is that normal?" This might be slightly insensitive, but it is not anything like what is going on here. When you call up a rental agency and the first question they ask is "Is your skin normal, you know, Japanese?", then it is clear that this will be used as a basis for discrimination.

Just imagine if here in America some employee in a similar situation said to a black person calling about a rental, "Ok, is your skin white?" The guy would probably get prison time for that.

When you get the, "Whats the weather like up there." comment.
You should spit on their head and say, "It's raining."
