You know, ski mask are just one of those items these days that even if you are using it for it's legit purpose, you are going to be targeted. Kind of like hookers. Most likely someone same him from a distance with a black object in his hand, and a mask on and called it in.

Sad that you can't just wear a ski mask out in public without people thinking you are up to no good.

But it was really hot coffee, could have given someone a nasty burn, maybe it could have got into someone's eye

I was in high school (in MN no less) during the Columbine shooting. The 4 years I was there the administrators were jumpy as hell. Random locker searches, routinely having classroom lock-ins as the liaison officer (a local police officer) walked a bomb (drug) sniffing dog around the hallways for a "drill", and interviews with students that were deemed "scary" because they wore dreadlocks or listened to The Misfits.

I remember once there was a threat along the lines of "I heard from Michael's cousins best friends sisters uncle that..." and they put "DO NOT CROSS" tape across all exits in the building. The staff didn't find it too funny when students started hanging handwritten notes across the tape that said, "Remember, there is no reason to PANIC!"

I've lived my whole life in California. I've always wondered if people immediately panic when they see a guy in a ski mask in cold climates that may require them, just as people here do. Apparently my answer is yes.

Someone in Minnesota in December wearing a ski mask and carrying coffee? Unpossible!

I bet he wouldn't have been harassed if he wore his coffee on his head and drank his ski mask.

One of my friends likes to play practical jokes on fast food places with his buddies and a few ski masks.

One time he and his friends were all in their car, pulled up to the drive through of Taco Bell and ordered some food. Then they put on ski masks and drove up to the window but acted normally. The woman freaked out and called the cops. When the cop got there he didn't know what to do...the woman asked "should I give them the food?" and he was like "well, they didn't do anything wrong, so yeah". He told them not to do it again.

Another time they actually walked into a Wendy's with the masks on, and he walked up to the counter.

FRIEND: Give me all yer' cheeseburgers.
CASHIER: Are you serious?
FRIEND: No.

I've seen that one, yeah. And I really, really wish I could just write it off as comedy, but looking around lately, I can't.

It is evidently astounding that I have not yet experienced detainment while cycling in cold weather, as I am oth in possession of a firearm and a balaclava. I suspect that the concealment of my firearm has prevented some unwanted attention.

You know, after living in CA for over a decade and now multiple years in MN. 18F isn't cold. Second, I bought a balaclava for running and cycling outside. It is perfectly normal. The caller was either from the south or so used to the cold that the ski mask made no sense.

Overall opinion, the caller was a little nuts.

That's my old high school!

Yup...that's something someone would do there. I would think it would be more scary for the parents watching some of the students ride to school on snowmobiles.

I worked in Highview middle school in Moundsview once and had a long blue wool jacket on - secondhand from a military store. Someone said there was a suspicious person walking around with a black leather trench coat on, and they were about 1 minute away from locking down the school and calling the cops. Even though I checked in at the office and 10 people knew I was good. Stupid over-reacting administration.

My first reaction was to declare these people to be pussies. After further reflection I realized that these are the people that pussies make fun of.

Mission Accomplished.

I never understood the locking down of schools any time there's a crime within a few miles of one.

In the history of crime in the US, exactly how many times has the criminal fled into a school and then harmed anyone?
