The company I work for is partially owned by Tribune, so I'm getting a kick out of this.

/Or not.

It's really too bad, they've been selling off other properties and attempting to sell the Cubs for awhile now...

Interesting, but how will this affect the Urban Entreprenuers passing out Streetwise?

Someone from Dubai or Saudi Arabia will buy the Cubs.

/Or maybe China.

Fark You subby, this is NOT new news. Zell took over the Tribune Corporation with the intent to sell the Cubs and everything associated with them to pay off the debt of the rest of the company. Well, with Mark Cuban out of the picture, and not too many people in the market to make that kind of purchase, he is forced to do what the Tribune Company should have done this time last year. Chapter 11.

Fondle My Sweaters: The company I work for is partially owned by Tribune, so I'm getting a kick out of this.

The company I work for used to be owned by a company that is now owned by Tribune so what is left of my pension and stock is not getting a kick out of this.

I blame Steve Bartman.

Like I tried to say in the thread that just now disappeared, they should just liquidate the Cubs and see how much they can get for the players' organs.

I left the Tribune a couple of years ago because I saw this or something like it coming. I'd do a little "in your face" dance except I know too many good people who have lost / are about to lose their jobs.

No holiday decorations outside the Tribune tower this year, btw. Zell is the grinch's grinch.

I am currently auditing a few tribune newspaper ads as I look across the street to see their building, so I'm getting a kick, etc etc.

Nope, Wakefield and Kushman. It's got the Starbucks and Payless shoes right out front.

You know, I'm starting to get this nagging feeling that our economy is not as great as it used to be.

Oh, yeah, I know where that is. Bummer about the lack of holiday decorations on the tower this year, huh? Or do other people not care as much as I do?

Lol, honestly, I didn't even notice. And I've asked a few co-workers, no one seems to care or notice either.

Ummmmm, if you're referring to the real estate services firm, I believe it's Cushman Wakefield.

Eh either way, their heating system sucks and smells like old farts. However they did throw a nice little holiday party for us last Friday, so, props on the cookie buffet in the elevator lobby.

Is this site just dedicated to hating on the cubs? I mean, god forbid we actually say something nice about them. i am so sick of you dumbshiats saying the cubs suck when your teams probably are just as bad if not worse. the cubs are gonna win and then when it happens none of you will come to that thread at all when it happens.

Most of the Cubs fans I know are eternally optimistic realists. Nozzlebeak must have snuck up from the South Side.

Well we on the south-side (okay I don't live there anymore) at least have something to be optimistic about ;)

The Trib is soon to be the ex-owners (new window) of the Cubbies. And good riddance.

2008-12-08 05:49:00 PM
About time.

Tribune could have been bigger and better than Time Warner.
However upper management was feared and hated in the ranks, and they ran the place like a small market newspaper that owned a couple TV stations. No one is even aware of an org chart in that place.

Then here comes Zell! Zell came in to make it private - the fools working there welcomed him with open arms! That is, until he pulled his axe out and started trimming all the fat in every department. The staff was shocked -shocked!- that their new pal Zell was cutting people and departments! How dare he!?

On top of it, Zell found a way to dumb down the Chicago Tribune! Quite a task. Even the USA Today blushes at the new coloring book format.

I hope they're not able to re-org and they just go away like Pan Am...

I'm pushing for a Russian oligarch, because Cubs fans need vodak during games.

/and if the oligarchs are bankrupt, then Putin will have to make an offer the Trib can't refuse

SomeCapn: On top of it, Zell found a way to dumb down the Chicago Tribune!

I first started reading the ChiTrib a few months ago. I was under the impression that it is (was?) one of the best newspapers in the country. I was shocked at how many mistakes I found, how poorly written it was, and the lack of focus & details most of its articles had. It felt like a small-town newspaper. I stopped buying it after I found 5 grammatical errors/typos in one section one day.
