I tried looking up what it was up against. But the only specific I could find was it's first time slot it was up against Bewitched and My Three Sons. Then moved around for the next two years.

And BTW: that all the choice you got...there were only 3 channels..NBC, CBS, ABC. PBS wasn't founded until 1969.

That was the first episode of 'Trek I saw as a kid and it made me an instant fan of the show.

I was probably around eight, nine years old when I watched it and I was totally freaked out by that creature's weird, sad face and "Hollywood" blond hair. I remember its sucker-hands being particularly disturbing, and asking my older brother if it ate through its hands, why did it have a mouth? He thought for a second, then said that since it was alien, that's probably where it pooped from.

If he was right, that alien must have thought McCoy was into some pretty freaky stuff every time they "kisssed."

/ass play FTW!

There was this wonderful quality about the old shows that none of the newer series ever had. They were much closer to Playhouse 90, Outer Limits, and much closer to the audience than the slick productions we see now.

Do any of the series apart from TNG have any memorable scenes in them as TOS did? Did TNG have nearly as many memorable scenes in it as TOS?

getting old and memories may be getting faulty, but I think this was the first TOS episode the network picked to air, and the critics didn't care much for it. The more cerebral episodes, that would have set a better tone, came on later. In their way, NBC did to trek what Fox did to Firefly that first season.

Notice that Spock said "if she WERE nancy".

Pet peeve, even tv shows are doing it these days, so we can't blame the children for getting it wrong. But dayom does it piss me off.

You know why I don't watch the old series anymore? Because I cherish my memories of the great special effects and fine acting. I don't want to screw that up with the truth.

/Would consider "Assignment: Earth"
//Young Teri Garr...mmmm...
