Weaver95: The brochure points out that heavy marijuana use can cause loss of energy or motivation. Heavy users may have "a hard time meeting responsibilities or getting things done, waking up in the morning; getting to work or school on time; finishing projects and completing plans, the brochure says.

So you get the lazy people off pot and then what? they're still lazy, only now they're not stoned.

That when they sign up for welfare ;) I'm sure being poor is no biggy if you're baked out of your mind.

Ikimasen: rodeofrog: What you had was a Hanukkah dream, because of the upcoming Hanukkah season.

There is a little known story that tells of the Hanukkah weed. You see, after a crazy party, a group of stoners got together in the living room of the house they were renting. They had to clean up all the trash from the party, where the folks that were over the night before had just wrecked everything. Before such a laborious task, though, the potheads knew they had to roll a joint and turn on some Simple Kid. When they rolled up what they had left, though, there was only enough for each of them to get one hit.

Well guess what happened then.

A Miracle.

That teensy-weensy little joint went around the circle eight times, and got everyone totally blazed.

I can't remember if they ever got the room cleaned.

MidnightRepairman: I don't have any of these problems and I would consider myself a heavy smoker. I'm not in debt and don't need to steal for it. It's just another line on my budget. I've also not been late to work or missed a meeting in 2 years. I'm definitely not depressed and motivation is not a problem for me.

Where I do have a problem is with alcohol. I'm not a happy drunk. I'm a mean drunk and I binge drink. I've had to pretty much give up alcohol as I began spending more time apologizing for things I don't remember than I actually spent drinking.

Anyone who is recommending that I give up weed and go back to drinking as a legal alternative definitely does not have my best interests in mind.

I'm a happy drunk, but I can't hold my liquor, so I don't really drink, been really drunk like twice in two years. You don't get hangovers or sick from being high. Let people have a choice.

pope183: WAKE UP and LIVE !

Right on. One of my favorites:

Wake up and live, y'all,
Wake up and live!
Wake up and live now!
Wake up and live!

Life is one big road with lots of signs,
So when you riding through the ruts, don't you complicate your mind:
Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy!
Don't bury your thoughts; put your vision to reality, yeah!

All together now:
Wake up and live (wake up and live, y'all),
Wake up and live (wake up and live),
wake up and wake up and live, yeah! (wake up and live now),
Wake up and (wake up and live) - wake up and live!
Rise ye mighty people, ye-ah!
There's work to be done,
So let's do it-a little by little:
Rise from your sleepless slumber! Yes, yeah! Yes, yeah!
We're more than sand on the seashore,
We're more than numbers.
All together now:
Wake up and live now, y'all!
(Wake up and live) Wake up and live!
Wake up and live, y'all!
(Wake up and live) Wake up and live now!
You see, one - one cocoa full a basket,
Whey they use you live big today: tomorrow you buried in-a casket.
One - one cocoa full a basket, yeah, yes!
Whey they use you live big today: tomorrow you bury in-a casket.

W'all together now:
(Wake up and live now!) Wake up and live! Oh! Yeah-eah!
(Wake up and live!) Uh!
(Wake up and live now!) Wake up and live!
(Wake up and live) Keep on playin'!
(Wake up and live, y'all) Uh! Yeah! Yeah!
(Wake up and live!)
(Wake up and live now!)
(Wake up and live!) Break it down!
---
[Saxophone solo]
Come on, man!
How is it feelin' over there?
(Wake up and live now) All right!
(Wake up and live!) Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Uh!
Come on, man!
You gotta wake up and live!
---
Life is one big road with lots of signs, yes!
So when you riding through the ruts, don't you complicate your mind:

Marijuana only holds back competent, capable employees from getting jobs because they tested positive. Legalize it and many won't be held back. The slackers are slackers with or without pot. pot just makes the slacking more enjoyable.

legalize it, tax it.

/it will create jobs

Yeah, weed seems to inhibit dreaming so if one withdraws, dreaming comes back with some potency. I have some issues when I smoke, others when I don't, seems like kind of a wash. I have an acquaintance who bought into this anti-drug nonsense and abstained from all substances for two years. One day he was sitting on a couch and thought: "My problems must be profoundly more systemic than drugs. They have to do with the fact that I do not represent capital and live in the styx and am kind of a zhlub." So he returned to drugs. He reports that he is currently just as failed as ever, but now, at least, that he enjoys the occasional inebriation break.

Two of the smartest guys I knew in college smoked pot. They were two of the laziest guys I knew too...but they were really really smart...that was good enough to get them through college with high GPAs.

signaljammer: Yeah, weed seems to inhibit dreaming so if one withdraws, dreaming comes back with some potency. I have some issues when I smoke, others when I don't, seems like kind of a wash.

I dream every night. I also cannot focus or function unless I smoke. It slows down my hyperactive brain to the point where I can work on one project at a time, and actually do a good job finishing it. Otherwise, I'm all over the place, trying to work on ten things at once and not doing a good job on any of them.

rodeofrog: I had an awesome dream last night. My brother was alive (he died almost a year ago). We were hanging out at the lake, and it was just beautiful. The weather was crisp, but not cold. You know, cold enough to keep the bugs away, but you can still wear shorts if you want. And the air was clear enough to let you see for miles.

Anyway, we were smoking a tiny little joint that seemed to last forever - one of those ones that you need a clip for, but you don't have a clip, so you risk burning your fingers, and you wish your thumb was really small. We kept passing it back and forth, and every time I passed it, I thought, "he can go ahead and finish it because I'm already perfectly stoned and there's no way I can get another puff out of that thing." But he kept taking a few puffs and passing it back.

Anyway, from this dream I learned two things:
1) I really miss my brother; and
2) I love smoking weed.

That's a really nice dream.

Heavy pot smoking is detrimental to getting things done. If I start smoking heavily (early in the day, usually) by the end of the day I'm not doing anything but trying to stay stoned, and waiting to go to sleep.

Do everything you need to do in your day, then get high. Then you feel rewarded and don't guilt-trip because maybe there was something you should have done, but you got stoned instead.

Or just get stoned all day long and do fun stuff. What do I care? I've got my pot addiction under control.

See, now...I was asking a legitimate question. Why the "pffffft"?

It stands to reason that, if a stoned person has no motivation to be productive, then they also would have no motivation to be a nusiance to society. I was simply asking why you think getting high is a bad thing with regards to the laziness factor.

No one is more pro-legalization than myself, but I have to say I have no issues with this ad or the message.

It's refreshing to at least see a distinction between heavy users (arguably "abusers") and recreational users - this is where the Feds always get it wrong - placing all drug users in the same bucket and expecting their policies, and the utterly failed drug war, to work. Ideology blinds them from reality - and tens of billions are wasted in the process. (pardon the pun)

I have a medical marijuana license that was given to me after a year of failed pharmaceuticals. I was given legal pills to help insomnia. The pills did not help, but caused me to lose 20lbs in 3 weeks, taking me to 100lbs. Now I can't gain weight and I am severally underweight. Since acquiring my license and using marijuana in place of "approved" pharmaceuticals, I now sleep more consistently, and my appetite is increased to help me gain weight.
What do you say now, you dumb fark?

As someone who both occasionally uses, and is surrounded by people who do regularly, the problem I find is that people smoke way too farking much at once. There is no reason to smoke a huge blunt after work to yourself. That is the kind of smoking that will farking incapacitate you... if you need to smoke that much, either your shiat really sucks, or you like burning money.

Pot doesn't make people lazy. Already lazy morans just use it to facilitate further laziness. There are plenty of people who use it and lead healthy, productive, insightful lives...

Goign to jail for simple posession of small amounts is a myth anyway. You get a fine, maybe probation, and thats about it. but pro-stoner losers want to pretend it some great horrible injustice, and that the jails are filled with innocent peaceful stoners.

If you want to share a common pasttime with the worthless, lazy scum of the earth, then smoke some weed.
