I thought I loved Bavaria as much as any non-Bavarian could. I was wrong. I have found extra love.

Seriously, sign me up. I now realize Christmas can be fun... just not in America. I say we lead the charge in bringing some more Bavarian culture to the US.

I was in Salzburg two years ago for the Grampus run, and man - those costumes are elaborate and scary as hell. It was impressive.

I have just come to the realization that I am now obsessed with Krampus and will only be celebrating Bavarian Christmas, from here on out. My friends are all getting invited to Bavarian Christmas at pixie's Apartment invites, and SOMEONE better dress up like Krampus and spank me. I'm entirely serious... this article has changed my life, improved my mood, and completely and utterly blown my mind.

KRAMPUS!!

I think I am going to write lyrics to a song about the guy, as well. My band needs more originals, anyway.

That article inspired me to throw on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas by Mayhem. Just when I was convinced that I hated Christmas. You go, Germany.

Is that where the one Christmas movie from MST3k came from?

I love German holidays, beer, sausage, and demons roaming about the countryside scaring the naughty children.

Dr. Venture: That's ridiculous! There's no such thing as Santa Claus!
Dr. Orpheus: Not since he was killed by a jet in 1963, no. Nor has there been a Krampus since the pope cast him into purgatory during Vatican II. But your boys seem to have inadvertently released him from his chains.
Hank: Dean did it! I wanted to read the Grinch!

I'm with you, I was thinking the same thing re lyrics. And I'm totally dressing up as Krampus every Halloween from now till death. How about a new band name: 'Krampus and the HOLY SHAIT WHAT THE FARK ARE THOSE THINGS!' LOL!

...how about this, you wake up suddenly to the sound of hooves on your rooftop. Then a rustleing in the living room where the Cristmas Tree is decorated in anticipation of gifts from Old St. Nick. You sneak up real quiet like for a little peak of the jolly old elf and to your supprise, HOLY FARK! What the hell is that! Ahhhh!!1!!one!

LOL, why does that cheer me up so much?

Just what we need. Germans in strange clothes terrorizing their smaller neighbours.

Thought we'd had enough of that by 1945.

2008-12-05 12:37:36 PM
Awesome...those costumes rock.

2008-12-05 12:37:37 PM
"The gnarled and gruesome figures stomp through the Christmas markets of Bavaria, scaring children and sometimes even give women a spanking."

This really can't be emphasized enough. Just when you think all Germans are good for is making failed attempts to take over the world and scheisse videos, they go and pull something like this out.

Happy Spanksgiving.

2008-12-05 12:38:00 PM

Hank: Dean did it, I wanted to read the Grinch!
Dean: [mumbles since his mouth is still locked shut]
[Krumpus licks Triana's face]
Triana: Uhm, dad?
Dr. Venture: What kind of kinky Christmas spirit is that?
Dr. Orpheus: It is Germanic in origin.
Dr. Venture: Well can't you just- I don't know, magic it away or something?
Dr. Orpheus: No more than you could science it away. No, the beast will not stop until it has punished the wicked in this house!
Dr. Venture: Well there's no one wicked-

I like this idea, all too often the threat of 'no presents' is as far as you can take the threats for bad kids, the idea of being switched and thrown into hell; that's the gold seal for good behavior between Halloween and Christmas.

2008-12-05 12:40:50 PM
I've tried many times to explain this to people but this link finally does justice to my stories. It shall be favourited.

Mind you, these costumes are far better than then ones i remember as a kid in the same way that movie special effects are now far better. Doesn't change the fact that some good old Krampus fun on the part of the adults would scare the living bejesus out of me.

Struwwelpeter, Krampus...why yes I grew up perfectly well adjusted, why do you ask?

2008-12-05 12:41:06 PM
Hell yeah I was hoping for some Krampus on Fark today.

Krampus comes to my house at least one day a month. Sometimes his buddy Hydroretainus comes too. Then Aunt Flo arrives in a chariot of scarlet and they slink off into the night.
