It was silly, but I still laughed. "If it's stupid, but it works, it's not stupid."

Prisoner: Johnny and the Mothers are playing "Stompin' at the Savoy" in Vermont tonight.
Johnny Dangerously: Vermin's going to kill my brother at the Savoy theater tonight.
Prisoner: I didn't say that.
Johnny Dangerously: No, but I know this grapevine.

This is where I note the fact that the CCR version is the best version, and always will be.

It took me by surprise I must say,
When I found out yesterday.

A good (hell, even GREAT) version, yes but a lot of heavy hitters have recorded that song.

Marvin Gaye (Went to number 1 on the U.S. charts, 1968)

Gladys Knight & the Pips (Went to number 2 on the U.S. charts, 1967)

Smokey Robinson & the Miracles (Shelved, 1967)

Isley Brothers (Flopped)

The Temptations (Not worth mentioning, 1969)

Average White Band (Crap, 1976)

Michael McDonald ('Nuff said, 2003)

Even Elton John used the song in his late '70s concerts. I personally prefer the Marvin Gaye version but the extended CCR (from Cosmos Factory) come in a close second.

Can't find a link, but I like Bill Frisell's instrumental version from his East/West live album.

I'll have to disagree with you there.

Marvin Gaye's version is the best, but CCR certainly runs a pretty good second. The rest? Meh.

GameStop's corporate HQ is in Grapevine. Coincidence? I think not.

Grapevine is a nice place but when the get closer to Grapevine Lake, the shiatier it gets. The apartments the man was found are the Marina Del Rey complex. My GF's coworker lives there and it's a shiathole.

There's something like this every year or so. The last "big story" was a hooker that was found dead in Bear Creek. Loved the small town mindset, "O no! A dead hooker! This place is getting as bad as NYC!"

/yes the CCR version is the best

Heard it at the Grapevine too!

Oh no not another ho!

/really obscure
//even on fark

yeah I was going to say, I lived in grapevine for years, and while it is nice there, this apartment complex is a shiathole

that was gaye.

Marvin Gaye version > CCR version.
