The preamble to the provisional constitution says the leaders are "grieved by the current state of brokenness within the Anglican Communion prompted by those who have embraced erroneous teaching and who have rejected a repeated call to repentance," the group said.

erroneous teachings = teachings that disagree with what we say is correct.

Must be nice not having to lug that heavy burden of proof around.

Move with the times, damn it.

The word of Jesus is important, right? Have you noticed that only one of Jesus' followers says something against homosexuals, and he said none? Guess what, chances are he cared less.

And don't start with the Old Testament here. We only have that printed in the book not because it counts, but because it's only a reference. We're not meant to follow the old book.

"Some of us have been praying for this for decades,"

Would have only taken a few years had you prayed harder.

Ditto. My ex pastor was a conservative though. He left with about 1/3rd the congregation and started his own Anglican Church.

I guess they technically do "possess" what they see... in terms of light reflection and mental processing. So... I guess that's accurate.

Pro-gay means anti-straight. They clearly want all Episcopals to start smoking the pole.

Taking communion will never be the same.

Seems like they're all old books. The "new" book doesn't do much for women, does it?

And it was only mentioned in one obscure letter from Paul to the Romans, written as a criticism of very specific certain Roman pagan rituals, and only briefly in a long list of things the Romans did that he personally disagreed with. He doesn't even invoke Jesus' authority in his condemnations.

It isn't mentioned anywhere else in the New Testament, and never by Jesus. It's purely old testament. And only in books that modern Christians have already claimed are nullified by the New Covenant anyway.

Wasn't the Anglican Church itself founded because someone wanted to monkey around with the rules of marriage?

Just sayin'.

FarkOf40000Years: Wasn't the Anglican Church itself founded because someone wanted to monkey around with the rules of marriage?

Just sayin'.

... Then Henry VIII came along. Henry VIII, a big, hairy king, and he said to the Pope, the head of the Catholic Church:

"Mr. Pope! I'm going to marry my first wife, and then I'm going to divorce her. Now, I know what you're going to say but stick with me, my story gets better. I'm going to marry my second wife and then I'm gong to kill her, cut her head off! Ah, not expecting that, are ya? Third wife, gonna shoot her. Fourth wife, put her into a bag. Fifth wife, into outer space. Sixth wife, on a Rotissimat. Seventh wife, made out of jam. Eighth wife..." ( makes sound similar to putting babies on spikes )

And the Pope's going,

( Italian accent )"You crazy bugger! You can't do all this! What are you, a Mormon? You can't marry all these people! It's illegal! You can't do all this! I am the Pope, I am the head of the Church, I have to keep up... ciao! I have to keep up standards. What have you been reading, the gospel according to St. Bastard?"

So Henry VIII, who was Sean Connery for this film, said:

( imitating Sean Connery ) "Well then, I will set up a new religion in this country. I will set up the Psychotic Bastard religion."

And an advisor said,

"Why not call it Church of England, Sire?"

"Church of England, actually. Much better... Even though I'm Scottish myself."

/Thank you, Mr. Izzard

CygnusDarius: ...only one of Jesus' followers says something against homosexuals...

Not even that. Paul's supposed anti-gay comments are mistranslations.

/no really

2008-12-04 08:57:47 PM
Yeah, we had a church down here in NC split off because of the gay bishop. They said "This church is no longer part of the Diocese of East Carolina, this church is part of the Diocese of Nigeria." The bishop of East Carolina told them that that was great but the diocese still owned their building and everything inside it.

/Which turned out to be true.

2008-12-04 08:58:20 PM
I hope there's a happy ending to this.

2008-12-04 09:01:46 PM
With all the new churches needing to be built, this just might solve the real estate crisis! Yea, Episcopalians!

Going by my own family, half of all priests are gay.

2008-12-04 09:08:16 PM
"Instead of focusing on things that divide us, we as orthodox Anglicans are focusing on the things that unite us."

Divisiveness? Herd mentality? Obsessing over trivial matters?

2008-12-04 09:13:59 PM
These conservative Episcopalians should just join the Catholic Church. There have been many conservative Anglicans have ended up joining the Catholic Church. The most high profile recent examples would be former Anglican Bishop Steenson and Tony Blair.
