That is the most badass creature I have ever seen. He just looks over the edge of the twig and jumps the fark off! That makes a Liger look like a pussy.

It might've been scarier if it could fly in English.

2008-12-04 07:47:49 PM
That's actually an example of the much more common "falling" snake.

They're easily confused, I'm sure.

From Wikipedia:

"...scientists discovered a co-relation between size and gliding ability, in which smaller flying snakes were able to glide longer distances horizontally."

Derrrrp, you mean that terminal velocity is a function of mass and surface area? Whod'a thunk it?

I was so scared I couldn't even understand what they were saying.

Might I add to the discussion that that video was lame. I am going to find a better ENGLISH VERSION of flying snakes and will attempt to get it posted. Pray for me gentlemen and women that it gets greenlit.

Subby is pretty lazy for not finding an English clip.

Youtube search for chrysopelea (new window)

I can imagine that this is the thing of nightmares for folks that don't like snakes. (My wife is in that bunch) I might have to send her that link.

Hey that's my friend Jake! Make that Dr. J.J. Socha, prof at Virginia Tech. I helped him with flying-snake experiments back in grad school days. Memories, like the corners of my mind...

The video showed snakes flying. Not landing. An elephant can fly if you push it off a building, but can it land and be OK?

/hates snakes

That's not flying. That's falling...with style.

Walking outside and being attacked by flying snakes would probably be the worst day of my life.

I freak out when I walk into a spider web. I can't imagine what I would do if I was bee bopping along and WHAP! This thing smacks me in the head.

2008-12-05 10:57:00 AM
The snakes do not fly so much as plummet.

The snake doesn't quite have that part worked out yet. That's why they're so rare.

/You know this all started when some drunk snake said to his friend, "Hey! Watch this!"
