Should've brought a dog. Then they could have stayed in the boat and just had the dog scare the ducks.

Then again, the dog would've laughed at them every time they missed.

\Hated that dog.

I saw the word Hunter in the article and all I could think of was screaming jumpy zombies running around Megaton. I should probably sell my 360.

How odd...it says they may or may not have crossed a non-existent perimeter with signs they may or may not have seen. Some fine reporting if I've ever seen it.

If it's such a high security area that they need to bring in local law enforcement and the coast guard for people getting near it then maybe for Christmas they should ask Santa for that fence.

"One of the dickhunters jumped out to rustle up some dicks for the other hunters to shoot at," said Lt. Dan Satterfield of Marine Safety Detachment out of New Castle. "He was trying to flush out some dicks. We weren't sure whether he crossed into the security zone."

The Coast Guard dispatched its 25-foot defender boat. A 47-footer was also called out but turned around before it got to the scene, said Satterfield. Seabrook police and Seabrook Station security had already determined the men were dickhunters, he said."
So they were tryin to shoot some detectives...

A float line, like they use for marking swim areas would probably cost a fraction of what this response did (or at least what it will be billed as).

Nice to see the penalty ranges from a stern letter to over $30,000. I say don't tell 'em what they're getting until the trial, keep 'em guessing.

I'd imagine a fence in a marsh isn't exactly the easiest or cheapest thing to build. Plus once the got close to the perimeter security noticed and they didn't get any closer. Not everything needs to be solved by building a fence.

I'll bet we don't bill for the response, and a float line is easily bypassed., so is a fence by large vsl traveling faster than say 15kts.

Not to mention if a prop did get fouled in a float line or someone did get near the fence we'd respond anyway.

That doesn't even include the price of the laborer/slave.

Really what the FA should have said:
As of Tuesday night, no charges had been brought against any of the agencies, local or federal. If charges were brought, said Palin, they would come from the President.

"We're going to investigate and question the agencies whether they saw the hunters, in orange vests, with licenses attached," said Palin. "They never said whether they did."

Seabrook police questioned the men, said Palin.

"The duck hunters got close to the perimeter," said Palin. "There was no trespass, no charges. They were on the banking, in and out of the boat."

The men were armed only with shotguns, said Palin.

"Our only response is, at no time was safety or the security of hunters in jeopardy," said NRA spokesperson Sarah Palin. "Our hunters followed procedure, but local law enforcement was involved."

"The main thing we're trying to get out to the government, there is a hunting zone," said a spokesperson for freedom. "There is no fence, just laws; government may not be aware, they could accidentally cross into them."

So...

Hunters got close to the line but did not cross.
Every security agent in the area was alerted and they called in a cutter, or something....
No charges were filed...

If the hunters being 10 feet from the line makes you nervous...make the line 10 feet further away.

Bestbank Tiger: Wouldn't a fence kind of be a good idea for a secure area?

Seacop: you gonna put it underwater?

Well, yes. Why not? I've seen plenty of fences that go from being on land to being in ponds or other bodies of water. They could even make the fence tall enough to stick out of the water. Or perhaps they could drain the swamp instead. Then there's the possibility of using a string of buoys to support the fence. There are several options available here that would work sufficiently.

Not so much to stop people (or boats) but to say "don't cross this line". Outside the line, we look at you with binoculars for a bit, over the line, that will be $32,500.

not as far as preventing entry, maybe keeping people from accidentaly encroaching, but even if someone was to sit outside the fence for a few minutes a coast guard asset would still be dispatched.

Well then, perhaps barbed wire would be a better choice since it's usually cheaper than chain link. I'm suggesting that if individuals can cordon off their pasture land, which can have miles of perimeter, then the operators of a power plant, nuclear or otherwise, can fence in their property as well.

The property is fenced, and entering that zone is a whole new ball game, this is the zone OUTSIDE the fence.

Agreed. Nothing will prevent entry in all cases, least of all unattended static obstacles. It seems to me that this particular case was a result of the boundary being poorly marked, not the willful intrusion of a hostile agent.

Thanks for the props, for the most part they are pretty clearly marked, I doubt they missed the signs, seems more a like a "Sign? What sign? Ohh that sign? Huh. guess I uh, missed it."

The Seabrook plant is surrounded by marsh. Wouldn't really be feasible to install a fence around it.
