Um, no, it does NOT cost $150B to sent emails. Wonkette fails bigtime on this one.

I found that very funny.

AIG's image and media problems are alot bigger than Wonkette.

I'm not even sure that AIG realizes that they HAVE an 'image problem'.

It's that old 'ocular rectumitis' thing ;)

I think the real story is that AIG is continuing its $125MM deal with a British football team. Absurd in the extreme.

AIG needs to invest money to drive up oil prices.

I still have that damn AIG theme song in my head from all those "how big is your egg" commercials.

/mine's about finch sized these days, thanks d00fusez.

I've never seen a Wonkette article that wasn't at best stupid and pointless, if not bigtime fail...

/That said, plenty of room for Wonkette and AIG to both fail rather epically at what they do.

heh, originally that was a JP Morgan print ad in the early 1970's

Apparently Wonkette's editor has never taken a contracts class. Not that I held Wonkette to a very high standard to begin with.

Seriously...how stupid is AIG?

I can't believe they're going to adhere to the terms of a contract and pay the money they contractually owe ManU instead of breaking the contract and having to pay legal fees to defend a breach of contract lawsuit and the money promised in the contract when they lose.

What a bunch of morons.

Wonkette is comedy? I've never laughed at Wonkette even once. they seem so serious. They just snark and act sarcastic, but I never thought they meant their articles as jokes. I thought they considered themselves serious editorial writers with "edgy" comments. Hell, they remind me of people who use the word "edgy" without irony.

I'd like to see AIG buy Wonkette for ridiculous amounts of money, just to close it down. Seriously fark them up, Cornelius Vanderbilt style. It would send a message to the internet about who still has the power and therefore who still gets paid 150 billion dollars of taxpayer money - cuz it sure ain't bloggers who have power in the 21str century.

2008-11-25 06:40:55 PM
So the AIG guy is trying to do his job and the Wonkette editor is being a snarky douche? That's what I got out of it.

2008-11-25 06:42:51 PM
Ummmm... someone thinks AIG is spending $150 billion on email?

Whatever...

Dude, you can all call me an asshole every day for the rest of my life if you give me $150 billion first. I don't think AIG are the dummies in this scenario.

2008-11-25 06:46:19 PM
Wonkette dude is a dick.

AIG dude is just doing his job. Makes a good point about eliminating 2008 bonuses, etc.

No need for Wonkette dude to take his whatever (401k hit, Napoleon complex, etc) out on AIG dude.

The AIG Media Relations department is certainly not at fault for the bailout.

2008-11-25 06:48:29 PM
so they spent 1 cent of MY taxpayer money in sending a couple of emails telling them that they won't be paying any salary or bonuses to their ceo? those bastards!!

/but seriously, I don't even pay taxes in my own country.

If the FAIL is attributed to Wonkette, then yes... That has to be one of the stupidest blog entries I've seen in some time.

Wonkette gave me herpes.

2008-11-25 06:51:47 PM
The customer relations person from AIG did nothing wrong. He or she handled the situation amicably. I can't say the same for the trash working for the Wonkette.

Crushinator: If the FAIL is attributed to Wonkette, then yes... That has to be one of the stupidest blog entries I've seen in some time.

Every Wonkette blog I've seen is one of the stupidest I've seen...one on College newspapers in Mississippi was talking about how all but one newspaper endorsed Obama, so the one that endorsed McCain only did it because they were racists and "were mad at black people for slavery."

/Hey, black guy, do this for no pay!

Um, you'd think AIG would have more important things to worry about than what Wonkette has to say about them. Guess not.

Those must be the sharp business instincts that led them to require a government bailout in the first place. Good going, AIG.

I'm from the land of brutal, hateful, vulgar sarcasm, and I find most Wonkette posts amusing. If you take this seriously, GTFO of Iowa or wherever and visit places where being mean for the sake of being mean is a celebrated tradition.

I agree. However since we all as taxpayers now unwillingly have a sizeable investment with them made, and we've seen how they do with blowing money, it's good that we break their balls still to keep them in check. If they don't respect us, then they need to at least fear us.

Spare the rod Watchdogs and Audits, spoil the child CEO and Board of Directors

This is the first article I have ever read from Wonkette, its gonna be the last too.

/Comedy?
//Really?

2008-11-25 06:57:16 PM
Yeah, but what comedy site did they send it to?

2008-11-25 06:59:05 PM
$150 billion for email? Wow, no wonder they're broke.

At least they weren't stupid cease and desist letters from AIG lawyers. Now THAT would be wasting money.

This dude is just doing his job and was actually engaging Wonkette on a personal basis without lawyers, while trying to clear up some misconceptions.

Listen, I hate AIG, but Wonkette gets a big FAIL here.

2008-11-25 07:07:08 PM
I think almost everyone -- Right or Left, Blue or Red -- has hated to see the way some of this bailout money has been spent. I believe, for example, that the tropical vacations of some of these companies have been universally reviled.

So it should say something when people on both sides of the isle, who agree that these expenditures can sometimes be wasteful, both agree that this letter to Wonkette is not a problem and Wonkette is making far too big a deal out of it.

Yes, this.

Weak link. Granted, most Wonk links are weak ... but this one is especially weak. The company's PR folks attempt to ensure accurate information is out there and offer themselves up to answer questions, and this is seen as a BAD thing?

Whatever.

/did not support the bailout
//still think this is a freakin' stupid "story"

Nah. He didn't mind getting raped...it was when the execs started eating the Tootsie Rolls out of his litter box that that pissed him off.

I really wish we weren't giving so much money to an inept failure when I have worked 40+ hours a week (mostly more) for my entire adult life only to scrape by. Not a woe is me tale, but I could've fallen back on the proverbial government teat years ago but have too much pride.

So what you are saying is that you are the Wonkette editor? This blog has never been even remotely funny. Mildly amusing at times at best.

We're talking about one person in the company. Do you think this person should be doing something other then what they were trained to do?

Maybe you're right. Maybe all this happened because they weren't playing musical chairs and letting their janitors make all the tough decisions.

I note from your profile that you live in the southwest. Sarcasm, and more broadly being mean for fun, are not traditions in this part of the country.

Nothing wrong with that until you start judging blogs from DC, NY, and other pro-jerk places based on your doe-eyed standards.

(and no, I'm not a Wonkette editor. No chance I'll ever live in the DC area...highest concentration of vapid people on Earth.)

At the very least the marketing puke gets a FAIL for not reading some past Wonkette posts. If he had, he'd have recognized an e-mail exchange was unlikely to go well...

2008-11-25 07:29:43 PM
Based on the headline, I thought it would be some sort of asinine C&D letter from AIG's legal department.

Instead, it was just some fairly cordial note from their media relations department.

Wonkette editor acted like an asshat, I don't see how this is supposed to be an issue.
