Illegal immigration is a made-up problem. (That said, if anyone is able to show a significant difference in crime rate between undocumented aliens and the remainder of the population, I'll be very interested.)

"I am outraged to learn that thousands of criminal aliens in our Texas jails who should have been detained, removed and deported ... were instead released back onto our streets after they completed their jail sentence," Perry wrote in a Nov. 18 letter to Chertoff.

How horrible!! Letting people go after they complete their sentences! What is this country turning in to!?

Zagloba: Illegal immigration is a made-up problem.

Yeah, moving from one side of the border to another shouldn't be a crime. Our current laws need an enema. They ignore the reality of what's happening today. The other side of the argument is that citizens pay taxes for years/decades/generations to pay for the infrastructure that illegal immigrants use for free. If we are to retain our culture of a melting pot, of taking the disenfranchised under our wing and granting continuing opportunity, we need to address the reality of what's happening with immigration, and not just what sounds good during election cycles.

Chertoff was all, but they are cheap laaabor and nice (like fellow weasel in arms McCain), before the rest of the USA overran his and the rest of Congresses telephones systems and email with anger. Then the little farker backed off and acted like he wanted to defend the borders all along. Goddamn yankees don't have a farking clue what is going on in the border states. I appreciate that the South's main reason for getting rid of employers hiring cheap immigrant labor is not to pass laws stopping the employers, but to basically keep the same system of underpaid labor intact but continue to go along the lines of racism.

The issue, at least with Harris County Jails (Harris is the county for Houston) is that the staff there doesn't really care. They hate each and every inmate and want them out and gone as soon as possible. Given their working environment and the sheriff they were working under before this past election, in some ways, I cannot blame them.

/but in so many other ways, I can.

Yeah! They should just imprison them without charges, without trials, without access to attorneys! It's the New American Way!

Harris County government has been screwed up for a long time. But it occurs to me that the sheriff's people refusing to supply required information to DHS could be interpreted as conspiracy to commit immigration fraud. Perhaps Chertoff could file charges against these people. And against the ex-sheriff. And maybe against Perry.

People arguing for the deportation of illegals have NO idea what that would do to our economy. The same people you elect are the same people that allowed this to happen, because they care about their rich buddies more than they care about you.

That being said, illegal immigration is HARDLY our greatest concern right now. You guys are just being used as pawns AGAIN to stir the shiat while the GOP is out of power. Wise up and join the rest of the country in fixing this mess.

Seriously? They're having a pissing match over who can be the bigger idiot and cooperate the least? The headline sums it up pretty nicely. How the hell is Texas law enforcement going to get immigration records if ICE doesn't know about the criminals, i.e. if Texas law enforcement doesn't KEEP those records?

Agreed, wholeheartedly.

Back in the 80's, the Treasury guys in my town would be all over your ass if you hired an illegal. They would get in your face and threaten YOU with fines and jail, not the illegals. These days in my town the only one chasing illegals is the local sheriff, who has had several jumpouts. And he's doing it because of the hordes of Guats and Mexicans involved in illegal drugs and identity scams.
And the Feds have NEVER BEEN INVOLVED. Not because the Feds are drastically changed, most of them are the same freaking guys. This is policy, coming from the top. Chertoff is making noises like he's doing something but is in fact, giving orders to do just the opposite and not allowing the local Feds to get involved.

I wonder if there will be any change under Obama. One would think so, for the illegals being here hurts the black community most of all.

Perry could be Robert Lee and Bush does the part of Jeff Davis. Hell, you know there are at least a couple dozen fully armed nuke silos out west under those thousands of crops circles. If it ever happened the rest of the US would have to put up a wall to keep their people from leaving to come to Texas.

With the Gov of Arizona (Napolitano) replaces Chertoff there will be a big change. Napolitano is very much against any law enforcement actions against Illegal Aliens and does her best to not uphold state laws.

You guys better get used to having Illegal Aliens running around this country.

Then it will be no change at all, unless she attempts to get involved in local police matters. And with the unqualified, squirrelly nature of Obama's cabinet picks so far, that's something I don't doubt might happen at all.

I run a plant in Nuevo Laredo. I walk over the bridge every morning, to work in Mexico. I see Mexicans walking the other way on the bridge every morning, to work in the US. They can get permisos, which allow them to come over for work, shopping, etc, but doesn't allow them out of the border area. It is routine every day. I haven't heard anybody in Laredo TX biatch about illegal immigration, save for a few of your typical florid porcine Republican types (usually from somewhere other than South Texas) at the hotel bar.

Going the other way, into Mexico, requires only the ability to ambulate and a face.

Most of my english speaking employees learned the language when they lived in the US. My plant manager came over with a coyote when he was 14, and worked into his mid-thirties. He was a perfectly normal citizen of his community in San Antonio - until the Hate Filled Christian Right decided to make it a wedge issue. Suddenly he was a pariah and soon arrested and sent back. He tells me that his old boss still calls him, trying to get him back because he can't find a good replacement for him. Yay personally responsible morally and work ethically superior caucausoid Christian supermen!

Mexicans look on visiting Texas as a right, because the US stole it from them. There is simply no other way to put it - or spin it away - we flat out stole it from them. And not in any nice kind of a way either - it was your typical White Christian American annexation - which involved much scalping and genocide.

For all of you armchair Bill O'Reilly's, go read a book (Blood Meridian is a good one) and see how proud you still feel about this piece of desert you took by killing hundreds of thousands of men, women and children. It would do you good to know the history, because every Mexican does, and most of them hate you for it and want their shiat back.

One final thing about illegal immigration: after having moved a plant from the US into Mexico, give me Mexicans over Americans any day of the week (five preferably). Oddly enough, the biggest problem children in my US plant were always the Conservative types, those fed on a steady diet of Hannity and Limbaugh - who allegedly are all for personal responsibility and self advancement - balderdash! The whiniest biatches of them all, always with their hand out, always needing praise for any effort - always demanding more for doing a good job - at a job an eight year old could do. I hope you are enjoying your unemployment benefits, while your job is being done by somebody who WANTS to work.

Chertoff is a prime example of why execution should be a valid punishment for gross incompetence.

2008-11-22 02:22:33 PM
Given the stringent demands Mexico makes for you to immigrate there, I would like the people moving here to at least do so legally. I won't even ask that they be rich businessmen who speak the local language, like Mexico does. Just do so legally. Please?

2008-11-22 02:33:49 PM
I was really (and yes I know, stupidly) hoping that the new Obama administration would actually get rid of the DHS. Why is it necessary? It has done nothing productive and is just one giant fasicst cock that pisses all of the constitution regularly. Not to mention the amount of money it wastes. Supressing civil liberties is expensive.
