There are strange things afoot at the Circle K, mom.

That's what my mom would do if she were in that situation.

Which is probably one of the reasons that she's never had to be in that situation.

Oh yeah.

When I was 9-10 (during the first Gulf War) my friend and I went around town and grabbed the yellow ribbons off of the light poles and stuff. We had no idea the significance and were just being buttholes. My mom took me to every single business that I had ganked a yellow ribbon and made me apologize.

She later told me that everyone really wanted to give me a hug and tell me it was okay because I was crying so hard. However, they all just stood there and gave me the disapproving look.

Mom taught me a lesson that day! Go Mom!

Yup.

My older brother, on the other hand, would've given me a lesson on how to scout out a place prior to the fact, how grease is an excellent substance to rub on a CCTV lens, and the great advantages of a balaclava over the cheaper stocking-on-your-head excuse for a mask.

Which is probably the reason for my parents having a less liberal view on parenting at the time I came around.

And now she's ensured they will find it difficult to find a job and progress financially for the rest of their lives. Yay. I'll admit that they were playing with fire, but she could've just had a word with them and threatened to turn them in if they didn't straighten up.

16- and 17-year-old, armed robbery. Yeah, that'll work. I'm sure they'll learn that it's wrong after a few harsh words.

They are juveniles. No lasting harm to their record.

Hopefully they will take this seriously. This is probably their best chance of turning out OK.

In summary, you are wrong and everyone else is right.

They probably should have considered that before holding up the station, and should both probably be happy they're sitting in jail rather than in the morgue with a face full of 00 buckshot. I'm sure Mom was considering that possibility when making the phone call.

I know it's early in the morning, but is this the best trolling we can expect?

Yes, 'cause when you intentionally do something illegal and life-threatening you absolutely have to make sure you get the best loopholes available.

Seconded. Boys will be boys and stern talking-to's only go so far. When my son pulls a gun on someone, it's time for him to go to jail and I'll be the first to pick up the phone. If, for some reason, all my lessons in consequences never took hold, perhaps it's time for the state to have a crack at it.

Her kids are renegades of society now. Mom had better learn how to forget about them and move on. I guess when see saw them breaking the law she figured they were no longer family. I wonder if she'll dwell upon all the mistakes she made in her child rearing decisions up till now. Mom will blame herself for this.

which they earned themselves through their actions. Their failure to think ahead doesn't mean the mother should cover for them when they commit a crime that serious. It's not like they were driving 5 over the speed limit, you know.

This is how the guys who murdered my grandfather got caught. One of 'ems mother heard 'em talking about it and called the cops and turned 'em in. Sadly, none of the three men involved got the death penalty.
