The Republican party, on the other hand, is doomed.

2008-11-10 07:11:28 PM
Which is exactly what they should not be doing according to many analysts I've listened to in recent days (including ones on Fox News).

If they're smart, they'll band together in at least a half-hearted attempt at support for Obama, and let Obama and the congressional majority deflate their own sails, if it happens. That's really the only chance the GOP has of saving face in time to mount any sort of comeback in 2012.

Mall goths have more diverse and orignal views than Fox.

It's obviously too early to say yet how 2012 is gonna go....but Limbaugh (and others) have been urging the Republicans to 'purge' the party of 'moderates'. And I think they're going to do just that...they'll get rid of every last fiscal conservative they can find and then hope that a newly found commitment to God, guns and flag waving will get them back into power.

For all those who have wrung their hands worrying that "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" will have nothing to do for the next four (to eight) years -- aside from the occasional Bidenism -- fear not: covering the GOP implosion and the resulting right-wing shrillfest will provide almost as much material as eight years of Bush.

I. Can't. Wait!

I see what is happening to Republican party now is what happened to England in the 1600s. Hardcore religion gained power and popularity for a while, but now reality and significant issues are beginning to affect us again.

The problem these "hardcore" religious freaks are going to encounter is that, for the most part, people are willing to change and accept change. That's the problem they are facing with gay marriage. As gays have rallied and more than proven that they are not sons of the devil, their support has grown. If your position in life is to never accept change, eventually reality will outgrow your usefulness.

My mom, a fox news devotee, just called to tell me how awful it is that Obama is getting his girls a puppy that is just going to 'shiat all over the white house.'

I tried to explain to her that all presidents have pets and that she just doesnt like Obama because he's black and a democrat. She failed to see my point.

duh?

This is the best thing that could've happened to Hannity, Cavuto, O'Reilly. They get to spend 4/8 years attacking ridiculousness instead of having to defend it while walking in circles.

And, given the environment that has been created, there are 50million people that will eat that shiat up.

They won't be getting the freepers back for a while, though.

Barring a complete Obama Administration catastrophe, the Republicans stand to get slaughtered in 2010, at which point the Democrats will have free reign to redraw the Congressional districts.

They're doomed for the foreseeable future:

"The Republican brand is still alive and well, Rep. Mike Pence said on Fox News Sunday.

When asked by Chris Wallace what "conservative solutions" the GOP would bring to their current minority-party status, Pence said social issues like "the sanctity of marriage" will remain the backbone of the Republican platform.

"You build those conservative solutions, Chris, on the same time-honored principles of limited government, a belief in free markets, in the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage," Pence said.

The Indiana representative cited the ballot measures against gay marriage that passed on Election Day as evidence of the continuing presence of conservative values."

If anything, I can see it decreasing. There has been quite a few people saying "That sort of politcal rhetoric is poison". If the "outrage" continues, I see more moderates distancing themselves from that point of view.

No, as I said in the last thread, I like facts. FOXNews is extremely partisan, just like most other news source.

Fox just happens to be the only tv outlet dominated by conservatives. That's why conservatives flock there. Liberals have a plethora of sources on the television.

The Fox news crazies are going to attack Obama for everything, everything.

That'd be a huge mistake. The future of the party is in the moderates, that's the new "silent majority".

Mentat

Barring a complete Obama Administration catastrophe, the Republicans stand to get slaughtered in 2010, at which point the Democrats will have free reign to redraw the Congressional districts.

I doubt the Republicans will get slaughtered in two years. One of the problems the party is going to face is an super long-much longer than normal-honeymoon period that the press and media will grant to President Obama. The GOP will have to stand up and fight for the issue they believe in,(hopefully important issues, not more morality crap) but they'll also have to pick those fights carefully. If they oppose everything President Obama and the majority Dems propose, the media will quickly paint them as obstructionists and marginalize thier arguments.

ILoveBeer3000: FOXNews has lead cable news for years. It's the alternative to all the liberal tv outlets. I doubt their viewership will increase any.

It just might. Limbaugh saw his show grow in audience under Clinton, Keith Olbermann certainly saw gains under Bush, being the voice of opposition can be profitable.

Hopefully it works out that way. Either the GOP purges themselves of the evangelicals, or the fiscal conservatives migrate to a third party. I don't really care how it happens, but I hope it does.

To a social liberal like myself, it'd be nice to have a choice when I go to the polls.

It's not the news outlets that have a liberal bias. It's the reality we live in that's biased.

Or hadn't you noticed that the countries with the happiest and most prosperous populations are living under a hybrid capitalist/socialist system that sits much farther to the left than the U.S. has ever dared to go?
