My middle school used electric birds to teach us the dangers of electricity. A little wooden bird with a light bulb inside, perched on a wire, touched another little wooden bird on a different wire and lit up. Imagine if that had been a fifth grader instead of a bird. He would have been glowing bright white with beams of light coming out of his eyes. It would have been so cool.

I'm torn between deciding if this is a bad journalist trying to write a compelling mystery story about night-flying kites or if it was a well-written hook for a larger piece hacked into nothing by an ambitious editor.

Either way, the story could have been summarized in a single paragraph the way it's written.

Sorry, I'm a retard. From the picture, it looked like they just had lights on the ENDS of the strings. I didn't notice the string of, uhm, christmas lights.

that's what I saw, exactly, last night. Upon further examination of the picture, that's exactly the same thing.

I'm retarded.

From the article: Many stay up in the air on their own while others are flown by the professionals.

I have no clue what that means.

My wife and I are originally from that area. Whenever we go back to visit our parents around holidays, we see those lights if we're driving at night. Pretty sweet.
