Carle has been awful this year, so good luck with that Flyers. However, I am glad that Steve Downs Syndrome is no longer in the Atlantic Division.

Came in here to say that. He's a 4th slot defenseman on my Fantasy team (deep league) and so much for him QBing the Tampa power play. At least on Philly, he has some offense to work with.

What, we're St. Louis and Lecavalier not good enough?

Not this season. St. Louis is having an off year, it seems.

Have you seen TB play this year?

As for Eminger, he was mistake prone and useless. Downie was too slow. Even coming in to training camp lighter and more fit, Downie still can't keep up with the NHL pace.

Getting rid of that human traffic cone Derian Hatcher would be an upgrade in itself.

It's fun when crappy teams swap crappy players. Spread the crap around.

No Jason Smith to hold the line this year has really shown how valuable He was to the Flyers last season

They did nothing to fill that gap all summer and now they have no cap space to really fix the problem

/phark Philly!!!!

I've been enjoying Smith on the Sens. Forwards don't like going into the corner against him. It really shows.

The Tampa bay paper is stating the purpose of the trade is to dump salary. I don't think any other team is looking to dump salary after ten games. That being said, Carle is incredibly soft and gives up too many bad turnovers.

This. Shanahan (new window) is in their sights, and I think this move frees up some salary for Homer to get creative. He'll need a little more though.

Jason Smith was horrible here as a leader. You don't tell reporters during the regular season as you're fighting for a playoff spot that you're going to sign with NJ in the offseason.

Steve Downie was a turnover machine when the games mattered, and as others have already mentioned too slow to play in the NHL. He may still get it, but it won't be on the Flyers.

I don't understand why he's so slow. I mean, he always jumping with both skates about 2 inches off the ice.

Carle makes 3.5 mill, almost double the combined salaries of Eminger and Downie (and that's assuming Downie counts against the cap, which he doesn't as an AHLer). I really like Carle, but I don't understand this move from Philly's perspective -- Jones is due back in less than a month, and that'll leave them with eight defencemen on one-way deals.

interestingly enough, that leaves 49 players for the flyers on a 50 man roster. EVERYBODY SHANAHAN!!
