The Voice of Doom: TehNacho
convert WMA's to MP3's

How about free software doing "anything to anything"?

-> http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/index.htm

There's even a special PSP version

Supported Fomats

* MP3, Vorbis, AAC, AAC+/HE-AAC, AAC+v2/HE-AAC v2, MusePack, Speex, AMR, WMA, RealAudio, mp3PRO*
* FLAC, WavPack, Monkey's Audio, OptimFrog, AAC Lossless, TTA, WAV/PCM, Waveform
* H.264, XviD, DivX, MPEG 1/2/4, Theora, Flash Video, Dirac, 3ivx*, RealVideo*, Windows Media Video
* AVI, MPEG/VOB, Matroska, MP4, PMP, RealMedia*, ASF, Quicktime*, OGM*
* CD, DVD, VCD, SVCD, CUESheet*, HTTP*, FTP*, RTSP*, UDP*

* supported as input only

I've tried doing my own googling and own research- but I always manage to pick garbage. I've tried probably a half a dozen different products where they will recode part of my collection, another which will recode another part, and so on. They're all WMA files. Why one product wouldn't do all of the same type of file confuses me... I found one that was free from Maximum PC and it managed to do most of my collection that Winlame missed but was a trial version apparently.

Trying out your link though.

followup - I ended up finding a Panasonic drive for about 1/5 the price of a drive from the local apple agent

My Canon MP470 won't feed paper correctly, it takes it in a quarter of an inch and then tries to print without the paper.

any little bits of torn paper stuck on the inside?

I checked the head already there is no paper stuck in it.

It seems like something is wrong with the tray, only the right side of the paper is going in so it is getting stuck at an angle.

How old is it? Sounds as if perhaps the roller is toast. (Or misaligned?)

It turns out my golf green mark fixing tool fell into the printer and got stuck in the feed sender. This must have happened when I took my bag out of the closet next to the comp last week.

Anybody know of an online source for high resolution images?

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 pixels X 10,000 pixels would be great!

I'm looking for a Home Theater System that won't break the bank. The problem is, every one I find that is affordable (read under $200) has a DVD player or it doesn't have HDMI capability. I have a 5 disc "upconverting" (I'm not sure if that's a scam or not) DVD player, I don't need another one.

Halp? My google-fu is weak.

Grote-Man: Halp? My google-fu is weak.

Try woot.com. They've got something going today with HDMI. It's got a dvd player, but it's probably the cheapest, most useless part of that system. Maybe skim the comments to make sure it's not going to explode when you plug it in.

Sort of strange request, but if anyone has access to legitimate working windows 98SE box I need to get the MD5 or SHA1 hash for your kernel32.dll.

Windows 98SE kernel32.dll should be version 4.10.0.2222.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can anyone provide educated guesses as to when the following products will be available?

• An Apple notebook computer with a Blu-Ray drive and a 1920x1200 resolution.

Half-Life 2: Episode Three.

• A next-generation apartment building in San Francisco featuring the latest green technologies (as promised here).

• The Palm Pre.

Okay, this might be a bit obscure, but I'll give it a shot:

My brother is using my TI-83 Plus (Silver Edition), which I haven't used in ages. Normally, you should be able to plot multiple functions at the same time in the Y= screen. However, something has happened to my brother's calculator that doesn't allow him to do this.

The problem appears to be that, normally, an icon to the left of each Y entry (Y 1 , Y 2 , etc.) looks like a \. My brother's calculator instead shows an arrow with a bar (>|), an arrow (>), or two arrows (>>), except the first arrow is filled in. I can't even find an entry for this in the TI-83 manual, and so I have no idea how to set it back. I've tried to reset factory defaults, and that did nothing. Resetting all RAM might do it, but without being certain I don't want to erase everything on the calculator.

Anyone know how I can switch the 83 Plus back to the "standard" graphing way of \ instead of >?

The Mental Floss "Star Trek Character or ED remedy" thread didn't need to be nuked. It only set off the virus detector because, by its very nature, the page listed several erectile dysfunction products. Mental Floss is a perfectly benign site.

You men with erectile dysfunction must have a really difficult time... surfing the internet for information.

Well, my windows machine hasn't been updating correctly for the last month or so. I thought it might be the conficker, but now I'm not so sure.

Windows Genuine Advantage tool tried to install itself on my machine (it's the only update that's been successful); but the install failed.

ZOMFG I know right, how can anyone sleep at night if there is no way of proving that I have a genuine copy of Windows?

Well the fact of the matter is that my copy is legit. I paid good money for it. The problemo is that without proving that my copy is legit, I won't be able to download security updates.

Do any of you have quick fixes for the Genuine disadvantage bullshiat? Again, I swear my product is legit, but if it's some sort of gray area for anyone, EIP.

XP or Vista?

  2009-04-01 08:37:00 PM
Oh btw, WGA should install on dodgy copies. It just pops up and nags and eventually nerfs your windows install. If it's not installing something else is up.

No_47: Oh btw, WGA should install on dodgy copies. It just pops up and nags and eventually nerfs your windows install. If it's not installing something else is up.

XP. There is an online WGA tool, and it verifies that my copy is legit. It hasn't popped up the last few times I've restarted, so I've got my fingers crossed that it will not again.

  2009-04-02 04:11:34 PM
The online WGA tool just installs it, too.
I generally don't like it running on my computer and tend to remove it between running Windows Update.

So here's a couple of things that might've helped (both XP only)
http://www.systeemitugi.ee/failid/abix/WUFix.bat a generic fix for windows update
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/RemoveWGA.shtml Removes WGA (some A/V software detects this as a virus - it's not)

Well, I may be farked.

The fine folks at Microsoft got back to me and had me install a special uninstaller, to uninstall all of my NetFramework installs. That went off without a hitch. Then, I was able to download the 3.5, and the patch for 3.5, but neither of them would install, and the knowledge base instructed me to get a service running related to RSAX86 or something... that wouldn't install because Cryptographic services were not running, after following the steps to try and get it running, I was instructed to get XPSEPSC installed. XPSEPSC will not install because the lack of an update.ini file. Cryptographic services are running on my machine according to msservices.

Now, I got to thinking today about the last time my machine was able to update. February 22nd. That also happens to be the day that I finally got so fed up with how shiatty steam ran that I uninstalled and then reinstalled it. I did a restore point to before I uninstalled steam, and tried to get everything jiving again. While nothing installed, across the board more things were willing to at least download, and I got further along in the install process for Net Framework than I had before I did the restore.

Anyone think that maybe Steam might be related to my issues with MS update?

  2009-04-02 04:49:30 PM
Oh, and I'm somewhat concerned about doing a reformat. At this point I think it's pretty much my only option, but since my XP disc is more than a year and a half old, I would have A LOT of updates to download before I could get online. Is there a file on my machine where the update installers are hiding so that maybe I could grab all of them and put them on a CD/DVD, instead of having to download them all again and leave my computer open for the time that it would take to download them?

you may notice your C/ part. is larger now after all that thrashing around with uninstalling. I call those 'scars'
letting msft support remote fix the box almost demands a reinstall

eventually you'll want to reinstall, if you have all the updates on discs or usb it can be fast.
practise reinstall 5 times & you may find its a neat way to tune up/clean up after a year of 'thrashing'

Go here for sp3 on a disc [unfetchable]
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=5b33b5a 8 -5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4

go here for all MSFT updates (new window) & make a collection of the ones that apply to your systems.

in the future these updates may become 'scarce'
then when you reinstall, you can be fully updated quickly before getting on the internet

  2009-04-03 04:00:50 PM
If you do have to reinstall.... you can burn a new XP install disk (from your old one) that has SP3 merged into it, Google for "xp sp3 slipstream"

RyoShin: Okay, this might be a bit obscure, but I'll give it a shot:

Don't remember if you hit the y= button first and then the mode button, or you hit the mode button first, but basically. Hit the mode button next to the yellow 2nd key and on the line where it says func par pol seq, just double check and make sure func is selected.

One other thing to check is two down from the mode key is an APPS key. Go in there and see if something called Transfrm is listed and disable it or uninstall it. That's all I got.

Another question;

Want to upgrade my processor, because higher end models are now available for under 200 bucks.

I currently have a 6550, my mainboard is a abit FP-IN9 SLI(C55-MCP51) Rev. A2... now when I go to google and try to ascertain if I can use a newer CPU in this mainboard, it simply says that it's compatible with Supports LGA775 Intel® Core™2 Duo, Core™2 Quad, Core™2 Extreme, Pentium® Dual-Core, Pentium® Extreme Edition, Pentium® D & Pentium® 4 Processors with 1066/800MHz FSB...

Now, a Wolfdale 8500 (new window) should be a good sized step up from the 6550, but it's built on 45nm, not a 65nm, dealy thing. I assume that a processor built on a 45nm would not necessarily be compatible with my board, but wondering if y'all could shed some light as to if it would be or not, and if the Wolfdale 8500 would be as big of a step up as I thought it would be.

Finally- CPU-Z states my pc-6400 ram is running at 400 mhz, now that memory is practically being given away, is it time to step up to something faster?

The internet I am reading says it will work. Update your BIOS to the latest version if it isn't already.

As for the RAM, that's DDR2-800. Anything faster is a waste of money.

Wolfdale 8500 uses a 1333 FSB, if your board only does 1066/800 there could be a problem

Mike: Wolfdale 8500 uses a 1333 FSB, if your board only does 1066/800 there could be a problem

CPUZ says that the rated FSB on my 6550 is 1333.3 Mhz. Would the wolfdale be a step up or pointless?

Hi!

I have four 250Gb disks in a RAID5 array. I would think I would have roughly 750 of storage space but the drive only says I have 500 or so. What gives?

Your config is probably 2 data drives, 1 parity drive and 1 hot spare which would equal 500GB.
