I hope that includes being critical when Obama is being bone-headed & not just rah-rah supportive.

Then again, he's a commentator. It's good to know where these people stand so you can weigh their commentary.

To be fair at least many of the pundits on MSNBC don't try and claim they're unbiased reporters.

Ha. Abstruse, I'm telling Drew to take back your Ultrafark tag

2008-11-06 12:37:50 PM
As I said in the other thread, I nearly fell off my chair when I heard him say that.

I can sorta get why he said it - in the sense that a new President has been elected, and every American should do his or her best to help the country move back towards prosperity - but the way he said it was...

Well I'll put it this way. Contrast that with his assertion, not fifteen seconds earlier, that it was a journalistic error for Joe Scarborough to try and determine Rahm Emanuel's motives from zero evidence. And then he goes and says this.

Way to crystalize MSNBC's reputation, Tweets.

yeah fair and balanced is more than words. they may be biased but they aren't liars.

First day on the job?

2008-11-06 12:38:35 PM
It IS his job, and he can do that by forcing them to stay honest and by avoiding the usual ratings-grabbing partisan bullshiat.

Joe Scarborough is biatching that Rahm Emanuel hasn't officially accepted or declined the position yet, and somehow, this is pointing to a clusterfark of a situation for the upcoming Obama Presidency.

News flash, Scarborough: Obama has 75 days to get his ducks in a row. Both you and I know that Obama will probably have 95% of his cabinet picked out before December. There's plenty of time, so don't get your knickers in a twist just yet.

2008-11-06 12:39:07 PM
Gotta hand it to those folks at MSNBC, they had some pretty good foresight.

Fox News made a lot of money. NBC isn't stupid- there are a LOT of people who stopped watching local news because it was filled with "ARE YOUR LAWN CHAIRS POISONING YOU??" and sports and weather information that you can get on your laptop in half the time.

These people still want a smattering of international and national news.

That being said, you as the consumer of media information have to understand that there is a bias. I don't watch Keith Olberman for and NEWS, I watch for entertainment.

2008-11-06 12:41:49 PM
The media should always be critical when the President is being bone-headed & not just rah-rah supportive.

as long as a Democrat is in office.

yeah. It seems like it would kind of make sense to say you feel it's your duty as an American citizen to try to make a presidency successful. But to say it's your job as a television commentator? It just seems a tad bizarre.

Lando Lincoln: Joe Scarborough is biatching that Rahm Emanuel hasn't officially accepted or declined the position yet, and somehow, this is pointing to a clusterfark of a situation for the upcoming Obama Presidency.

Does he ever do anything else? Jenna Jameson's vagina, serving as a launchpad for spacecraft in the middle of the Gobi Desert, has got nothing on Scarborough's brand.

the_pgoat: It just seems a tad bizarre.

Same guy who cannot keep his lower lip dry when speaking, and makes creepy near-sexual advances towards his news colleagues on-camera.

I mean, the guy is smart, and I enjoy it when he puts the screws to unambiguously stupid people, but Chris Matthews is...

Well, my stepdad would've said "He's a little off."

2008-11-06 12:50:31 PM
I would assume if Fox News keeps making attempts to move towards the middle as Rupert pushes to be friendly with the new President that MSNBC will become an even bigger joke than it already has become.

Hopefully, we can have some sort of Matrix Revolution style final battle scene where Olbermann and O'Reilly cancel each other out and the world explodes and is remade to be fine again.

I'll await your renaming MSNBC to something more representative, like Faux News was.

Seriously - they can do what they want - they're out to make money. But if their actual goal was to report facts to inform people, then Fox News shouldn't be their guide.

I'll change my initial statement to mean journalists, a list that I think Matthews can now be removed from.

bulldg4life: Hopefully, we can have some sort of Matrix Revolution style final battle scene where Olbermann and O'Reilly cancel each other out and the world explodes and is remade to be fine again.

Man I would pay cold hard cash to see those two fight it out in a cage match on PPV. I would want it to last for days.

Then we could pit Hannity vs. the tag team of Colmes and Maddow.

2008-11-06 12:53:39 PM
"Country First" =/= "Not my president"

I heard Mark Levin on the radio pledging to help destroy the Obama presidency. Is that what Country First has come to mean? Conservatism is now nothing more than a dedication to making the country fail if we don't like the path it choses to success? Democracy is good unless it elects a guy I don't like?

Hey, that's no fair, pitting 2 men against Hannity.

It's funny, in four years of journalism classes, I never remember hearing anything about how it's my duty to support a particular political agenda over another.

Guess I overslept that day.

2008-11-06 01:01:40 PM
I think Matthews knows his days are numbered at MSNBC and he's sucking up for a Government job again. This isn't the first time he's shown his hoohah about this subject.

Not all "conservatives" are like that. I don't want Obama to fail, even if that means the GOP loses again in 2012.

It's good to hear that. Please call Mr. Levin and his ilk and let him know that.

After years of accusing "libs" of gloating over bad news for the US, it seems he is now hoping for massive failure to prove himself right.

2008-11-06 01:15:28 PM
He declared his bias towards Obama a long time ago. When Obama clinched the nomination months ago, Matthews told Russert on the air that he would leave broadcasting if he could get a job in the Obama administration, he was that excited about it.

Stoj: I hope that includes being critical when Obama is being bone-headed & not just rah-rah supportive.

This. It might be nice to try and keep the Democrats honest, y'know. Or at least within mortar range of it.

i'd watch it.

olbermann does need to tone it down a bit now that the election is over. getting excited is understandable during moments of high drama, but now he needs to let a little bit of air out of his balloon.

2008-11-06 01:33:49 PM
I think someone will have to explain to me how Matthews, a talking head on t.v., is going to have any impact on what President Elect Obama does one way or another.

I think the success of the next administration will be dependent on the actions taken by that administration and not MSNBC.

But thanks for the support, Chris.

Good. As long as we are not pretending any more, we should not pretend anymore. Fox, you had your turn, see what you did by going over that fuzzy line of "are they baised?" and throwing your full weight on one side.

FSM help us all.

I like Chris Matthews because he seems like he's having fun, and sometimes he makes me laugh, but that's just dumb.

Chris, your job is to hold Obama accountable. The media forgot that was their job during the first Bush term, and look what it got us. Don't be a cheerleader for the government, and you will do more to ensure Obama's success than anything else you could possibly do.
