Joe wishes he could shine Obama's shoes.

Next up: Chair of the Special Standing Committee to Fetch Coffee for Freshmen Senators.

Joe Lieberman is a shonda to the Jews and the Democrats and to Connecticut.

Now why dont you go get your Shinebox, Joe.

They need him as part of their 60 seat super-majority so he's safe for now.

Next election however....

I dislike Joe Lieberman as much as any other anti-war person, but he really shouldn't be excommunicated. He is generally pretty solid, it's just on the war subject where he kind of goes full-retard.

Can Obama put any pressure on the dems to remove Pelosi...cause that'd be awesome

bulldg4life: Can Obama put any pressure on the dems to remove Pelosi...cause that'd be awesome

I have no doubt that he will, and she will "step down" gracefully. He's not having any distractions in his first 100 days, and you will not see any signs of struggle.

I love how two faced politicians are. Their loyalties are more tenuous than my sobriety.

"Candidate X is a socialist, fascist Sith Lord who will rape your pets and pour sugar in your mother's gas---he won? Not only would I take a bullet for Candidate X while sucking him off, I would work his nuts at the same time. I'm Joe Lieberman. I look like I just opened the Ark of the Covenant and I approve this message."

fark it, they don't have 60 even with him, especially since it appears that Alaskans are so farking retarded, they re-elected a convicted criminal. So, Lieberman doesn't matter and should lose his chairmanship. Farking traitor.

2008-11-05 11:57:12 AM
I'm okay with him staying, as long as he takes on the vital "Senate Subcommittee on Schadenfreude" seat in addition to his current duties.

just remember, before he was McCain's biatch, before he was "independent," before he was pro-war, and even before he was the vice-presidential candidate, he was the little shiat-head trying to blame Columbine on video games.

i've been sayin it since freshman year of high school, fark Joe Lieberman.

2008-11-05 12:01:00 PM
Sorry, Joe.

You gambled your high-profile committee chairmanship and lost. I'm sure if McCain had won and the R's had returned to the majority in the Senate you wouldn't be saying "no no, I'll just stay where I am," you'd be angling for Ways and Means or one of the bigger defense committees.

Enjoy swinging the gavel as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Committee Activities and Birthday Party Planning.

No offense, but I think that's a piss-poor reason to bounce him as chairman of a committee.

...the fact that he's an ineffectual leader, and a whiner, is the only reason you need.

this.

probably the worst situation for the dems to be in re: lieberman was a 59 seat majority, him being 60.

now? who cares. he doesn't really improve their standing in any way, and it would probably be worthwhile to make an example of him.

TraeHova: No offense, but I think that's a piss-poor reason to bounce him as chairman of a committee.

the only reason he might have kept it is because of his ability to give them the 60th vote. it's not so much that this is the reason to remove him, it's that it is no longer the reason to keep him.

Well, they put up with him being a whiner because they need his vote. If they won't reach 60, they don't really need him because they have a large majority but still can't clear the filibuster no matter what he does.

I'd like to see them ditch him, but even if they don't reach 60, they will probably keep him around for at least 2 more years so they can get another try at 60 in 2010. After that, they can ditch him for good, and hope to have a democrat win his seat in 2012.

Oh, trust me, I've got more reasons. I just didn't want to list them all.

Fine, let him stay in the Democratic caucus, but he doesn't deserve a chairmanship.

You can't campaign for the other party's candidate, speak at the Republican Convention, and actually stand for a spot on the opposing ticket, and expect to be treated like a member of the party. I hope they kick his ass out. Then I hope the Republicans adopt him so he can lose his seat the next time around.

Fark Lieberman.

Even if he were going to be the 60th vote (he's not), I'd rather take my chances with a 59 majority and no Lieberman. That would mean in order to filibuster, the GOP would have to maintain absolute loyalty. In a rebuilding year, that's just not going to happen. ONE Republican Senator out there will need a favor and roll over like a dog who needs his belly rubbed in virtually any close vote.

Oh, and this bears repeating as well...

Fark Lieberman.

2008-11-05 12:59:16 PM
I'm actually rather happy that the Democrats did not get a filibuster proof majority.

The Senate is not the president's personal legislative rubber stamp, the senate is a CHECK on presidential powers.

If Obama wants something done, let him convince enough senators to vote for it.

Let him use the power of the presidency to inspire people to call their senators and say "I want you, my representation to the Senate, to vote for or against this bill".

There are enough SANE Republicans who will work with him for their country instead of against him for their party.

Watch Maine get a LOT more important in national politics.

darkhorse23: He needs to hear the song "Don't let the screen door hit ya where the good lord split ya".

I agree wholeheartedly with that.

All other idiotic decisions aside, including following McCain...

The fact that he continued to support him after Palin was chosen as VP. As a potential leader of this country since she would sit behind a 73 year old petri dish, is astounding. Anyone who supported that woman should be shown the door.

That goes past party loyalty and into "following someone into the gates of hell". Party loyalty I can understand. Blatant disregard for any concept of reality is something completely different.

Joe Lieberman gave a keynote speech at the Republican National Convention.

That is the beginning, middle, and end of this entire discussion.

It didn't work that way for Bush.

If Obama wants something done, let him convince enough senators to vote for it.

All the 60 seats would have done is prevent a filibuster. That is all. They would all still have to vote on the actual issue...

Yet *one* day after his elecion, the Democrats are right back to their middle school bullshiat. Come on.

As far as I'm concerned, the election went perfectly. Palin is farking gone, the lesser of two evils is headed to the oval office, and the Republicans have juuuuust enough power to not let the next 4 years resemble 2000-2006 in terms of congressional rubberstamping.
