Whatever happened to PAPER BALLOTS!?

/Voted on a paper ballot

2008-11-04 05:17:19 PM
Wrong, it does the same for Straight Ticket/McCain. The party that loses more votes to this is the party with more dumb people.

2008-11-04 05:17:44 PM
Maybe they can send some more black panthers over to help intimidate the machines into working properly.

2008-11-04 05:17:45 PM
Paper ballot marked with a pen FTW. Electronic Machines FTL

2008-11-04 05:17:49 PM
Yea. When I marked my paper ballot today with a good ol' #2, all I could think of was the poor people in other counties getting owned.

2008-11-04 05:17:52 PM
how do they know this?

2008-11-04 05:18:12 PM
b-b-but why would anyone need paper ballots? It's unpossible for computers to fail!

2008-11-04 05:18:14 PM
Voted on machine that went to master machine whose bag seal was broken.

2008-11-04 05:18:30 PM
This is good news... for paper ballots.

2008-11-04 05:18:34 PM
And now a lesson in boolean algebra?

2008-11-04 05:18:55 PM

Kind of like the people in Florida that couldn't punch a paper ballot properly?

Just what we need, electronic 'hanging chads'

I realize this is Fark, but that's a little unfair.

Besides, we already know the answer to that question.

furiousxgeorge: Wrong, it does the same for Straight Ticket/McCain. The party that loses more votes to this is the party with more dumb people.

Assuming this error occurs at an equal rate for both parties though, and assuming this is only happening in Philadelphia and not the rest of PA, this will affect Dems more.

/So it's ok because it's not affecting real Americans.

2008-11-04 05:19:12 PM
Figures. Fun little "glitches" that can screw voters that seem to be conveniently placed.

I'm annoyed that I had to use a voting machine to vote today, but at LEAST this voting machine does the following:

It prints a receipt.
It prints a paper ballot.
It's not a touchscreen.

2008-11-04 05:19:29 PM
This is bad news...

/seriously

2008-11-04 05:19:30 PM
I'm sacrificing chickens and goats in anger.

2008-11-04 05:19:32 PM
that's awfully convenient.

the biggest underclass and black population in a major swing state is magically having trouble voting democrat.

2008-11-04 05:19:36 PM
Old News...

furiousxgeorge: Wrong, it does the same for Straight Ticket/McCain. The party that loses more votes to this is the party with more dumb people.

Which party lost your vote?

2008-11-04 05:19:54 PM
It works as a toggle, if you click the straight ticket it lights them all up. If you then hit Obama, it toggles him off. The reason no one is complaining about the same for McCain is that no one in Philadelphia is voting for him, so we haven't noticed, but the poster above is correct. If someone in Philadelphia tried to do this with McCain, it would be the same.

Good thing you didn't use a #3:

Buh buh but ACORN!

2008-11-04 05:20:14 PM
Ahhh... Otherwise rational, tech-savvy libs are faulting the magic voting genies again... I love this time of year, even though it comes only every four years... The mid-terms are a bit anti-climactic.

2008-11-04 05:20:28 PM
How do i stole the election?

Well, the Daily Kos says it's so ... so it must be true. Why would they lie?

2008-11-04 05:20:55 PM
How dumb do you have to be to choose both a candidate AND straight ticket?

2008-11-04 05:20:57 PM
Why the hell is it so hard to have an electronic machine that prints out a paper receipt?

You know, like one of the millions of ATMs we have in this country?

2008-11-04 05:21:06 PM
Doesn't voting straight party Dem just give your presidential vote to Obama. Why wouldn't it just be the same thing? It seems to me that this is just making sure you don't vote for Obama twice.

2008-11-04 05:21:19 PM
sloppy sloppy coding...

Clicking on a box you've already checked unchecks it. So naturally the vote straight party button just does the click event on every box...even if it's already been clicked. Score another for the electronic voting industry!

2008-11-04 05:21:21 PM
Philly still has a "straight ticket" lever? That's insane. Even New York got rid of that. How many other places still have this relic of the old political machines?

2008-11-04 05:21:33 PM
Boy, I'm sure glad we got rid of those clumsy, confusing paper ballots.

2008-11-04 05:21:44 PM
Jesus...just bring back the paper ballot. I voted on one today. You just draw the line so that you finish the arrow next to who you're voting for. Assuming you don't have a seizure when it happens, there's very little chance of screwing it up.

2008-11-04 05:21:45 PM
the gop has the fix in. 4 years of mcsame and failin here we come! see you in americatown, [foreign country name here]

2008-11-04 05:21:52 PM
Well this it timely.

2008-11-04 05:21:54 PM
I am not surprised. This is supposed to happen.

2008-11-04 05:22:01 PM
Brewski: sloppy sloppy coding...

Which assumes that it wasn't intentional...

2008-11-04 05:22:01 PM
Can we finally have some kind of law prohibiting voting machines? It's totally unnecessary, and a waste of time and money.

/paper balloted also

Same machines in Bucks. If I hadn't voted already I would go check if this is happening in Bucks for either Obama or McCain before I did my official vote.

Anyone wanna volunteer to try it?

2008-11-04 05:22:17 PM
Also what the hell is a "straight Democratic ticket"?
You vote Obama, then have to click "straight democratic ticket"? What are the other options? You could vote for Obama, then vote for republican?

Shouldn't everyone know how to spell BARACK by now?

you would think someone would have tested for this sort of thing...

When the little red light is lit next to your choices, click the "vote" button. That's all there is to it.

In some areas of philly it would be suicide to walk away from a voting booth with a paper ticket that said who you voted for.

Dumb. You can only lead if you were born here.

I love you.

my cell phone can do everything under the sun but these people can't make a computer that simply counts checkmarks? i'd be more comfortable if microsoft made these things.

so, once again...

Solution: don't be a straight ticket voting asshole.

It solves A LOT of voting problems, doesn't it?

2008-11-04 05:23:01 PM
As a beacon of freedom and democracy, you Americans really suck at getting the basics right...
