Let me get this right.

"a new series called "Swag", produced by Guy Ritchie which uses hidden cameras to film people being tempted into illegal acts"

The idea that we are entertained by this illegally baited "candid camera" to intice illegal acts kinda sucks. In a bad way. What do you think?

I hope Stabby McSuspect can plead the old "stupid TV" defense for this one. Baiting people into illegal acts, then playing innocent when they go crazy on the crew? But then again it's England, so maybe Guy thought the filmed subjects would either laugh or act confused instead of getting all violent.

normal people with no bad intention wont fall into this trap, specially stealing cars! i say screw with thieve in the ass with a big wood broom stick.

I think his case might be difficult with a name like that.

2003-01-07 01:04:01 AM
wow I wonder if anyone was suprised that someone got hurt.

2003-01-07 01:04:13 AM
Gudel: Perhaps, but if you are going to entice criminals and then show up with cameras, don't be surprised if they behave like a criminal and attack you.

I do think though that this is just a terrible idea for a TV show, especially since it would be very easy for them to set traps and edit it to make you appear to look much worse than you actually are, and even guilty when you are not. These are TV producers, not police so don't have to follow any guidelines as to presenting evidence.

And exactly how is this baiting illegal? There's an unlocked car over there with the keys in it. If you take it, you're a criminal.

There's a locked car over there with the keys in it. If you take it, you're a criminal.

There's a locked car over there with no keys apparently inside. If you take it... yup.

Gah! Isn't this entrapment?

2003-01-07 01:05:49 AM

How about this for reality TV. First, we get a group of violent thugs together and convince them they'll be released early from prison if they just participate in a study and watch a few gory movies. Then, before each episode of mayhem, we slip a few drugs in with their usual "vitamins" to make them deathly ill. Should be a real riot.

2003-01-07 01:06:33 AM
Exactly how is trying to steal a car innocent? Gudel is right, if you're not a thief to begin with you won't be "tempted" into starting, either.

And was this guy actually tempted? Or was the film crew just hanging out near the bait (car) waiting for someone to happen along?

-Paramecium, wondering whether ripping off the Candid Camera idea is a breach of copyright....

If you are dumb enough to entice criminals into illegel behavior and then stick a camera in their face, you farking deserve what you get. I'm a criminal, and I take my work very seriously.

2003-01-07 01:08:58 AM
In fact, I can think of a quick example that would be unfair from the article posted earlier.

Suppose they set out a sack filled with money like the one the woman took? That was a crime, but she isn't necessarily a criminal. Impulse took over at the sight of so much money. She will probably turn it in after thinking about it, but a show like this wouldn't even give you the oppurtunity to come to your senses, they would ambush you with cameras as soon as you picked up the bag. You might have even taken it and planned to go call the police, but it's too late to claim that when the cameras rush you.

2003-01-07 01:10:49 AM
Ritchie says, "It could be worse, he could be married to my wife"

As always, the best line IS NOT IN THE ARTICLE, grrrr

2003-01-07 01:11:37 AM
I hear that stealing cars is a "gateway" crime that leads to more hardcore crimes.

2003-01-07 01:14:44 AM
The truly scary part of all this is that there's now yet another reality TV show littering the airwaves.

/with apologies to reality TV fans :)

2003-01-07 01:14:57 AM
The guy was obviously a criminal and deserves no sympathy, but creating a TV show that has a mission of setting up people in various ways is obviously going to lead to trouble for both the crew and the possibility of abuse of innocent people.

2003-01-07 01:16:03 AM
Apparent Nuisance is right. Even if you took the money in his/her example to give it to the proper authorities you would look like a thief.

TV is evil. I like Guy Ritchie though, the 3 movies I have seen with his name attached were all pretty good.

2003-01-07 01:16:11 AM
The "gateway" here is to graduate to holding up convenience stores with a pair of pliers and some wood glue. Bob Vila would be proud.

2003-01-07 01:17:12 AM
"Honesty's the best policy"

2003-01-07 01:18:39 AM
Wow! A show that sounds worse than the syndicated "Cheaters".

2003-01-07 01:21:53 AM
Nothing is worse than Cheaters, the host was spawned by satans dingleberry.

2003-01-07 01:22:16 AM
Concept for new Guy Ritchie show:

Same concept, but have Madonna be the camera operator.

2003-01-07 01:22:27 AM
Uhhh..."Cheaters" that is. Dern tags.

2003-01-07 01:27:23 AM
Who's proper-f*cked now then?

2003-01-07 01:28:41 AM
They're aren't showing the episode that starts with them leaving four pair of Madonna's panties near the petting zoo.

I think the more "Reality TV" makers killed the better off the world is.

Wldncrzy14: i do believe you owe me $.24 for the beer i just wasted through my nose.

2003-01-07 01:38:33 AM
I miss the Cook report. That and Watchdog. Anne Robinson is much better there than on the Weakest Link. They should have brought IT to the US instead. (Shows where they harrass honest, hardworking criminals.)

Speaking of "reality shows/movies", anyone seen BumFights? Pretty sad shiat but couldnt help but laugh during "Bum hunt" to the theme of the crocodile show. good stuff.

2003-01-07 02:16:46 AM
Bodegas, he owes me upwards of $2-- Wldncrzy14 usually has something smashingly witty to add, even if he doesn't have any vowels. As for Guy Ritchie, you can't beat Snatch with a stick.

And you know, if you do, she'll probably get mad. Or get turned on, if she's into that sort of thing.

2003-01-07 02:24:16 AM
Lame show needs stupid idea for publicity stunt.

2003-01-07 02:30:02 AM
The headling probably pertained to my exwife... the slut

2003-01-07 02:34:08 AM
i will agree with An-Unnecessarily-Long-Name .. i know his exwife.. that biatch.
hes a great co-worker, and a terrific drunk! wait til i post the pics of our drinking escapades

2003-01-07 02:34:30 AM
well...is he right or not?

2003-01-07 02:38:12 AM
Dr.Knockboots: I would prefer that you post pictures of his "slut" ex-wife, preferably naked.

2003-01-07 02:47:38 AM
produced by pop superstar Madonna's husband

ouch. that's gotta hurt. he made a name for himself before they got together, yet he is referred to just as "madonna's husband."

2003-01-07 02:50:04 AM
gis for "madonna's husband:"

2003-01-07 03:16:42 AM
Apparent Nuisance
would u believe he doesnt even have those kids of pics of her? what a jackass.
hes trying to talk his new girl into doing it.. but usually they're both way too hammered to remember the camera. im dead serious.

2003-01-07 03:24:13 AM
Damnitt- Ok, I'll come clean, I paid the guy to take out Madonnas husband so me and her could continue our affair... I guess he missed and hit the cameraman.

2003-01-07 03:25:45 AM
I thought all the crappy reality tv was made in the US. It's nice to know that we're not the only country to air garbage programming

As an American, I will assume by "in a run-down area of London" the journalist meant to write "parked outside a crack house." And I'll also assume that when the journalist used the phrase "expensive car", the intended phrase was "mackin' Lexus wit all kinds o bling bling and shiat."

Guy Ritchie's marriage to Madge is sooo a front for his Elton Johnesque camp gay frivolities. Defo.

2003-01-07 04:32:18 AM
Hrmmm...

heheh I just might do it... If I dont drink this weekend....

2003-01-07 05:01:44 AM
I think if Ritchie want's this crap filmed, he should have to film the damn thing himself. First a crappy movie staring his crappy wife and now a crappy reality show. He has tainted LS2SB and Snatch. Off with his head!!

2003-01-07 05:03:47 AM
"Ritchie, who made his name with the gangster film "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", recently directed his wife in the movie "Swept Away", which was panned by critics and flopped at the box office."

Whodathunkit?

2003-01-07 05:19:20 AM
Wait a minute.. I'm having trouble keeping up.

You mean to tell me that it's a BAD idea to harass and provoke criminals? Since when?

2003-01-07 05:22:27 AM
poor Guy Ritchie - to go from being a semi sucessful film producer to producing tacky reality shows for a small english TV station in the space of 4 years.

I'm betting he cries himself to sleep each night.

2003-01-07 05:24:07 AM
oh and Madonna is in bits - see her in the James Bond film? she needs to change her image.

I'm thinking the Ritchie household is a sad and quiet one these days.

2003-01-07 05:26:10 AM
Emm... am I missing a point here?...
Everyone is banging on about car theft and Madge's old man does that mean it's quite acceptable to stab someone with a screwdriver??.... Oh, the missed opportunities

2003-01-07 05:38:00 AM
Cormee Such a dirge demands praise. I'll raise a glass to the good times, when Madonna did the lesbo pics with Naomi Campbell, and Lock Stock was still new and exciting.

Ah well - we'll all be radioactive soon, so who cares?

*downs Laphroaig or however you spell the fecker*
