I have another one but it didn't happen to me...
When I was a kid I asked my dad whether he believed in ghosts. To my surprise, he said he did. He has the most obnoxiously rational, mechanical, scientific brain of anyone I've ever met. He's not religious, and he's (so I thought) the type who would label anyone who believes in ghosts as an idiot. So I asked why, and he said "Because I saw one." The weird part was he didn't really want to talk about it. But I nagged him until he told me, and he said he was sharing a flat with his friend just out of college, and one night when he was lying in bed this blond woman in a white nightgown came in through the door, sat on his bed, and stared at him. He turned over on his side so as to ignore it, and it actually scratched him on his back. He woke up the next morning and there was a long scratch on his back.
Through the years I kept remembering this and wondering if he made it up, but he pretty much refuses to talk about it now besides saying it was true.

Isn't my story, but one of my best friends....

He works at the Bremerton shipyards in WA state. A few years ago, one of the Navy's battleships was going into mothballs and he was part of a three-man crew that was working a graveyard shift to inspect parts of the ship to see what could be salvaged and reused. Around 3 in the morning, they boarded the ship - the only people on it, guard stationed outside the plank, one-way-on one-way-off - to begin their work. About 20 minutes in, my friend realized that they left some needed equipment back in their van on the docks, so he and one of the other workers went out to pick it up, leaving the third guy by himself.

When they came back in to where the remaining worker was, they found him sitting on a stool, staring down a passageway. When the worker realized that my friend and the other guy had returned, he took off like a shot down the passageway with a flashlight, looking around. My friend and the other guy didn't know what was going on, and started giving him a hard time when the other worker returned a few minutes later. My friend says that the guy had claimed that he was setting up some of their equipment when he had stood up to look down this hallway towards this hatchway. That was when he claimed that a man dressed in the naval wear of the early 90's had walked past the doorway, paused to look at the worker, and moved on.

My friend and the other worker who had left started to really give the guy crap about it, figuring that they were being messed with. But as they kept working, the guy never backed down from his story, and my friend had said that this guy was a more serious type, never to play jokes or anything like that at work. Plus, the worker seemed to be really bothered by the whole thing.

So my friend and his two co-workers finish up what they had to do and leave the ship. As they're making their way past the guard for the last time, the co-worker who had this happen to him goes up to the guard and asks if there was another crew that was working on the ship in addition to the team that my friend was on. The guard tells him that they were the only people to come on board since the last group left 5 hours earlier. The co-worker told the guard what had happened, and the guard said that they were the only three people that had passed by him onto the ship the whole night.

As they were walking away, the guard called out to them and said, "Don't worry. You're not the first person to see somebody on that ship that wasn't supposed to be there."

Is it just me who does not trust anyone of these farkers who use the word "Tolstoy?"

Something about literary reference, or for that matter literary style just makes me want to piss all over their ludicrous booga booga stories and laugh at them.

And I especially loathe "oh that happened to... also!" stuff.

/but I have had two sleep paralysis moments: one where I knew someone was in the apt and would murder my mother...and another where I played a little mental challenge with a demon.
//ah...good times!

What amazes me every year is the number of obviously sleep paralysis related tales that these folks have lived with for years thinking something mystical happened to them. Pretty sad.

Sounds like you were calling an elevator line to me. The one I found starts with a normal tone then goes to a higher pitched electronic sounding one, then the elevator's speakerphone picks up. Stuff on the other end sounds really muffled usually. I don't know what it sounds like to the people in the elevator.

Usually they'll move those to a new number right away if they think some prankster found out about it.

What_is_farking_wrong_with_you_people:
there was also the ghost of Hanner Field House.
creepy. till i figured out what is was.

/good times

As someone still in Statesboro, I'm curious about the Hanner thing. Also, have you heard about the hauntings in the old McCroan Auditorium? My magazine did a feature piece on that last year (our competitor did it this year, and thoroughly screwed up the facts).
