Breaking from Newsmax.com

Arabs: Obama 'One of Us'

While Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama "has tried to push his origins into the background, his 'Islamic roots' have won him a place in many Arabs' hearts."

That's the observation of Iranian-born commentator Amir Taheri, whose column in Tuesday's New York Post notes that many Arabs and other Muslims see Obama as "one of them."

2008-10-31 01:47:33 PM
Wisconsin Governor Doyle has already said he will pledge Wisconsin's Electoral votes to Obama. No need to vote here, Doyle has decided for you. He also hopes to gain a seat on Obamas cabinet.

What attracted you most to him, wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on a blowjob, or his eating whipped cream off a hooker afterwards?

What's not to love?

So: I know nothing about Barr. I am not really interested to be truthful - I think the LP fighting for the White House when they can't even field a decent congressional candidate is dumb.

What I would like to know from you is, and I base this on conversations I've had with other people in real life and on FARK; would you say he is more:

1. The crazy uncle that thinks federal taxation is so over the top evil that only an over the top solution will fix it OR

2. The guy with challenging, often Santa-like facial hair wearing a Cliff-Huxtable sweater OR

3. (The Icelander option) A guy with a airbrushed wolf t-shirt fetish OR

4. A bitter partisan wishing to pirate a ship of fools.

This is all in the interest of science, or something, to be sure.

It's a protest vote against McCain.

quietwalker: According to both historical reports as well as current day (new window), voter fraud in lake county is so rampant and early/mail-in/etc registration so poorly regulated that it needed to be stopped (lacking the time to entirely re-do it).

I am sorry but your links provide information that directly contradicts your statement.

The first link lists 11 people. How many people are in that district? We are talking about some small fraction of 1%. Most of those charged were charged with voting in the wrong precinct. So they went to the wrong polling place. Couldn't that just be an honest mistake? My guess is that there were far fewer than 11 convictions resulting for all 11 people in this "rampant voter fraud".

The second link mentions "hundreds" of invalid registrations. Well first of all let us apply a little logic.

Invalid registrations =/= fraudulent registrations AND
Fraudulent registrations =/= voter fraud.

So even if the allegations are true there is no voter fraud involved. Given that ID is required for voters in this area. Having an invalid registration is a far cry from casting an invalid (or fraudulent) vote.

Next lets look at the meat of the article. "Hundreds" of invalid registrations, but out of how many total. The article also mentions problems with a "large portion of the 5,000" registrations from ACORN. But how many is a large portion. How much out of the total of "hundreds" does this "large portion" comprise?

It seems again that we are dealing with a small number of mistakes and/or a small number of workers trying to cheat their employer.

ACORN responds:

"LaSota and Hoagland said they instructed ACORN on how to legally register voters, but apparently the organization's canvassers broke rules to meet ACORN-set voter registration quotas to get paid. They said ACORN organizers promised to fire workers who were cheating."

The article quotes a Republican speaking in very alarmist terms. But when you look closely at the numbers what you get is the following

1) So few actual fraudulent votes (11) that they could just be honest mistakes.
2) A small percentage of the total registrations have a problem
3) The problems seem to stem from a few bad employees, not from the employer. If the employer were to blame there would be many more problems. It makes no sense to take such risks for a very small number of registrations.
4) ACORN is cooperating fully to eliminate the problem registrations.

CONCLUSIONS:
This is not voter fraud, let alone "Rampant" voter fraud.
This is not even registration fraud.
This is Lake County Republican Chairman John Curley kicking up a fuss. He is asking for federal investigation. I would bet money the feds find nothing. Likely he is trying discredit ACORN and by association, Obama.

In short, Just politics, nothing to see here.

TheBigJerk: He goes on about Property taxes (which aren't Federal, but hey) so I am guessing he has really valuable property that he doesn't make decent money off of due to incompetence

I once did a very thorough examination of my finances to find out exactly how much I paid in taxes. (Quicken really helps)

I was in the 30+ income tax bracket but with deductions I paid about 20%. Add in state income tax, property tax, Road tax, and make an honest estimate of sales tax.

Total was 35%. (I forgot about gasoline and phone tax)
So maybe as high as 37%.

Since then I have accumulated more deductions and moved to a state without income tax. So I have never paid that much since.

holmer:

Read a real history book! Democrats have done more to fix elections than the Republicans ever dreamt of. 1960 is a good pres. example, 2004 in Wash. state is a good gov. example.

2004 in Wash. state is a good example of an honest election.

Also a good example of how propaganda can be used to fool people like you.

Sam Reed the Republican Secretary of State in charge of certifying the election, publicly stated the election was fair and honest.

The loser (Republican Rossi) sued and made a big deal of all the votes found in the recount that favored his opponent, while ignoring all the votes found that favored him.

The press dutifully, and gleefully (the press loves controversy), reported all the accusations, spending little or no time pointing out that the number of errors found in the recount were few and leaned in both directions.

However, the most accurate count elected Rossi's opponent while the less accurate initial count elected Rossi.

Rossi claimed fraud, sued, and began his propaganda campaign

Rossi persuaded the US justice dept, to investigate. The Attorney General investigated and found no fraud.

He was then fired, for refusing to further investigate the innocent , as part of Lawyer-gate.

I doubt either will win Florida because of cheating here, simply because they'll both be doing tons of it (and probably have already been doing tons of it, yay early voating!) and I doubt one can out cheat the other enough to make a difference.

Also on the lawyer hate, people don't hate lawyers because all lawyers are evil, they hate lawyers because the vast majority of personal injury lawyers are evil, and those are the only lawyers people see on TV.

At least the party learned its lesson from last time: run the horse that people can get behind. I didn't meet (limited sampling, of course being in the military) anyone that was excited about Kerry. He was an alternative to Bush, and that wasn't enough.

I've definitely met, even here in red-state SC, plenty of serious Obama fans. His policies are clearer, he's much more listenable, and his wife isn't wearing some other dude's rock. Good for them... they don't wanna snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again.

I would actually vote for a democrate if they weren't so determined to turn this country into a UK-style nanny-state overloaded with social programs designed to keep people dependent on them and thus keep them in power. The libs have done more than any other party to keep the underprivileged down to try to keep themselves in power.

If you tell a lazy person they don't have to work to get ahead, that's just what they will do - nothing.

Show me a moderate democrat who is not a blatant socialist at heart and I would vote for him. It just amazes me how many people are willing to abandon every principle this country was built on for a pipe dream and a six-pack of lies.
